You guys are having way too much fun! Y’all ought to get together and convince the sponsors to have them incorporate a downward tilt to the launch ramp in order to get enough speed up to give the entries a chance to get flying. Would really be cool to see some actually fly for some distance.

It seems that you need to account for the loss of weight in the front of the aircraft so that it becomes level when the rear wheels leave the platform. Like having it look like it's doing a wheelie and as the 2nd set of wheels gets to the end of the platform the plane is level and ready to fly.
Compliments to all the crew! But the question stand: why wasting time, resources, materials to build something that is not meant to fly? Redbull Flugtag is about dumping funny-dressed people into the water with cameras broadcasting the Redbull Logo, it has nothing to do with flying. In those condition - wind-tail, low speed, low launching power - even an ASH-30mi glider would fall like a log.Glue together some fluo-painted styrofoam slabs, have some babes dancing around and you may get the same jury evaluation, as long as you jump in the water among overexcited screams and boombox noises.
I suspect it's not just about flying, but overcoming all the obstacles you've mentioned and flying anyway. Doing the best to overcome a challenge is a great deal of fun in and of itself. Don't over think it, just enjoy the trip.
I used to think of it as an engineering competition. Seems to just be for fun and marketing the brand though. The current rules and the priorities of the organizers on entertainment (and safety?) make successful flight very difficult. Any tailwind and not turning the barge into the wind dooms every aircraft that needs to become airborne at running speed.

Hey Guys, I love what you do on your channel. I am a master modeler but I model static models and have done commissions. My mainstay is Sci-Fi (Star Trek, Star Wars) for my clients. Do you plan on building a flying version of the Starship Enterprise preferably the D model because of the large saucer section could be a great wing . Just a thought. Looking forward as usual to more vids and congrats on your Flugtag win.

You guys need to add something to give those Red Bull entries more take off speed for the days the wind is blowing wrong direction. Or better yet partner with Red Bull and build catapult launcher for that platform similar to what aircraft carriers use just dialed back a bit.

Yo I want to apologize for the stall on the G80 jet fighter. I'd lost interest in the design anyway but feeling up to another. But the way you all wanted me to present the design was out of my range per say to much!! Anyway but idea I would love to see y'all do. Turn a cord Rc jet fighter plane from Walmart into a cordless actually flying Rc jet plane. Would love to see it.

oh god.. i had a similar thing.. it was a yellow thing with a red wing.. think it was a robbe type hangglider thing.. very not fun and quite expensive.. it 'flew' once..
I assume it’s a function of the flugtag rules, but if you had a functional hang-glider, why would you cut it apart to build a worse one?
The hang glider we used was not airworthy and there are rules about it
@@WarblesOnALot You are aptly named sir, and I appreciate your warbles. I've got an older double-surface glider that spent 20+ years nicely packed away in its bag in the rafters of a garage. Mouse-nest free and the sail is still crinkly. This is to say that I am vaguely aware of the physics and history of hang-gliding, but not intimately familiar like you are. A friend of mine who flew out in California back in the 80's has his license signed off by Bill Bennett.

As soon as the front wheel left the ramp it dropped, the pilot had no control and swung forward moving the CG forward making it impossible for it to recover.
Sucks that the launch barge was not turned around into the wind.
How to build a glider that flies in a tail wind... Seems like it could be possible, but the launch may be strange.
