    I remember the last qualification I shot in the Army at Ft Stewart. There was medium gravel with sharp edges that dug into my elbows and body. Very painful. As if that wasn't bad enough, the setting sun was directly downrange. I don't know if it was on purpose or not and I was not happy. I only made sharpshooter. I guess it was good training though.

      I was thinking the exact same thing. But it appears he did that with a red dot with no magnification. Pretty dang good if you ask me. I need a 3x prism sight just to make those 200 yard shots. No way I could do that anymore with 1x. I just can't see that far. Reid is a class act and really knows his stuff. My favorite gun channel.

    Thought I'd share with you...I was just quickly reminded of why I choose to carry a firearm for protection. I just found out that...last Saturday at 9:30 pm some thug decided to rob The pharmacy at Walgreens on North Calumet for some Oxycodone. Let me walk you through where I was and what I was doing around this time. Around 7 pm I went to Bass Pro Shop in Portage for a bit, then I stopped by Panda Express at about 8:00 pm for dinner. At about 8:45 pm I stopped at Walgreens in Portage for some hand soap, Diet Coke & some microwave popcorn. They were out of microwave popcorn, so I decided to go to Walgreens at North Calumet in Valpo. At about 9:15-9:20 pm I'm at coming to the Glendale entrance to Walgreens and at the last second, out of convenience in terms of traffic flow, I decided to go to CVS across from Walgreens. That puts me in CVS at approximately 9:30 pm. If I wouldn't have changed my mind at the last second, I would have find myself in the middle of an armed robbery. Thankfully...no one was hurt and everyone went home to see their families, but it makes me think....Sometimes I feel like I live in one of the safest cities in the world, but then this happens. I was prepared. I was armed with my Glock 19 with 16 rounds and an extra 15 round magazine, but it really reminds me how important it is to be prepared to protect yourself and the people around you! It really reminds me that the money I spend on ammo and firearms and the time I spend training can really save my life and/or the life of others! This was a surreal experience and thought I should share it. Take it for what it's worth, but it could of played out different in so many ways!

    • @5jjt
      @5jjt 3 роки тому

      Make sure your pistol can actually fire a 100% fully loaded magazine plus one chambered. Many pistols stovepipe thus way, but won't stovepipe if you fully load a magazine then put one from it into the chamber.

    Reid, I have a question about this Rifle Standard's test. Do you recommend an optic is run for training up to and passing this, or are iron sights fine? My go to rifle is a CSA 858 in 5.56 with irons. I train with irons, however not up to 300m very often. Should I make the move to a small optic for this purpose? If not, what kind of training would you recommend to reach this standard? I would take a Rifle class from you but I'm a Canadian (don't hold it against me!)

    • @johnkeats4181
      @johnkeats4181 7 років тому

      Coffice I won't speak for Reid... but having taken "rifleman 1" I would say if you normally use irons.... use your irons. it's reasonable to hit @300 without an optic after taking this class.

    I've got to see you run this with an AK.
    thats my rifle of choice.
    if i dip into the AR im going big bore (308).
    oh and if you do run this with an AK... PLEASE make it 7.62x39. 5.45 is far from common. (though more makers are starting to offer them, ammo and the rifles themselves are far more common in 7.62)
    either way. I love your no frills gun videos.

  • @keithsimpson2492

    Two questions. First why didn't you use your AK, that's what you have said in the past was your go to rifle? Second, do you make allowances for disabled shooters who can't do the kneeling or prone positions within that time limit? I know my old paratroopers legs would give me fits if I tried to bend them that fast.

    I'm curious bout something. The drill that has the name of "Mozambique" you're practicing is that name something you named for that drill? The reason is, that I'm a retired Police Officer and we used to shoot that drill but not that name on it. I just found your channel and Liking what I'm seeing here..... =-)

      Danny Walker its the common slang name for the failure to stop drill.

    • @ReidHenrichs
      @ReidHenrichs  6 років тому +1

      Actually, the failure to stop is the slang for the drill. It was originally called the Mozambique drill when Mike Rousseau used it to shoot an insurgent during the war there. Rousseau told the story to Jeff Cooper, who incorporated it into Gunsite's curriculum. When the LAPD saw the drill, they renamed it the failure drill as Mozambique would be a no go for the PC crowd.

      I checked and they don't. I think they turn their noses up at shotguns for some reason. Even though an automatic shotgun fires projectiles faster than the fastest sub gun. And are more powerful than a rifle at self defense distances. You better never shoot someone in the civilian world at 75 yards or, you'll be in jail for sure.
