  • One of the most common questions is about the Target. If you want one you can get there: targetsonline.com/store/index....
Whether you are talking to a new recruit or a old Nam vet, they will all recall the Rifle Qualification Course. While i can’t attest to the other branches of service, the US Army has always relied on the 300 meter standard Rifle Qualification. This test required a Soldier to first shoot a 20rd magazine, from a concrete “foxhole,” at targets ranging from 25 meters to 300 meters. The Soldier then had to climb out of the foxhole, assume a unsupported prone firing position (laying on the ground), and again engage various targets from 25m to 300m, with a second 20rd mag. If I recall correctly, I think 34/40 was expert. If I shot below 38, I wanted to kill myself (very easy test for a young trooper with good eyes).
These tests were all done with iron sights. They were good for gauging how good our Soldiers would be shooting at targets in an open defence. However, as the global war on terror was shaping up, we began to see more and more urban combat. So, what about training, and testing, at CQB distances?
Here we are, now 15 years later, still playing the same political games. There are quite a few different Carbine Tests out there. Some are good. Some, well, not so much.
In this video Rob takes us through what we call the “Mar Qual.” It is a standardized test, that T1G uses to gauge the shooting abilities of different operators (and whole units), prior to allowing them to go “Hot” into the live-fire shoot houses. It takes shooters through Standing/Kneeling/Prone, speed reloads, shooting on the move, and limited exposure shots (snaps). Rob has a little fun talking through how to properly score these targets. There are actually two different versions (male and female), but both have the same scoring areas. To run this test, each shooter will need 50rds of rifle (there is a pistol version also) and three paper targets. You’re wanting at least 80 points to pass this test.
Stages (so you don’t have to keep rewatching the video)
    From 50m; 2rds Standing, 2rds Kneeling, 2rds Prone; against 1st paper target
From 50m, run to 25m, then 2rds standing and 2rds Kneeling
From 25m, 1rd snap to the face in 2 seconds
From 25m moving to the 15m; shooting while moving 2rds to chest
From 15m, 2rds hammered pair to chest in 2 seconds
From 15m moving to 10m, shooting while moving, failure drill
From 10m moving to 5m, shooting while moving, failure drill
Walk back to 7m; from 7m moving to 3m; shooting while moving, failure drill
Set up 2 new clean targets
From 50m; 2rds Standing on 1st target, speed reload, 2rds Kneeling on 2nd target
From 25m moving to 15m; shooting while moving, 2rds each target
From 15m; 2rds hammered pair on each target
From 15m moving to 10m, shooting while moving, 2rds each target
From 10m; 2rds hammered pair on each target
From 10m moving to 3m; shooting while moving, Box Drill
So, if you are looking for a new drill to add to your training plan, or you are just wanting to test your skill level against America’s finest, give this Carbine Qualification a try. It’s a great training tool.
Now, that said, do I think it should replace the Army’s standard 300 meter qual? No, I do not. Unfortunately, we are seeing our modern generation of warfighters becoming overly dependant on optic sights and only practicing at CQB distances. What good is having a rifle capable of precision shots at 400 meters, if our Soldiers are only proficient out to 25 meters? Don’t just train for your last battle; train for what might possibly be your next. That means mastering both CQB distances and open long distances. So, conquer them both.
This is the part where you push away from the computer. Go slap in a fresh mag, and try out this qual on your local rifle range. Then, come back and let us know how you did.

A friend of my father was really saddened when he was forced to shoot some fifteen year old kids in Germany during WW 2, thing is they were in uniform, armed to the teeth and full of fight and fanaticism, do people intent on using deadly force get a pass based on age, gender etc ? the short answer is no, training should prepare a solider as best as possible to engage a threat no matter who it is.

    • @edwardnigma6568
      @edwardnigma6568 5 років тому +5

That doesnt change the fact that Federal Agencies and Actors are using targets like these to train. Why would they use targets that look like an average American civilian gun owner unless they were training specifically to face, or at least view, that demographic as an enemy? Because its politically incorrect to use targets that look like Mexican women and children crossing the border? Or targets that look like someone wearing a Burka for anonymity? No. They are using targets like these because they are getting our armed men and women used to the idea of shooting at the average American Citizen and you should be concerned not complicit.

    • @judgeholden6761
      @judgeholden6761 5 років тому +11

@@edwardnigma6568 I hate obnoxious politically motivated targets like presidents and shit but I think you have this completely wrong. The reason why targets of women and juveniles are included as a part of training isn't because that's who they expect them to kill the most or even to kill often, it's because they are the HARDEST for people to kill and they still might have to. Human civilization has always placed a higher value on the lives and safety of children and women (a privilege I have sadly yet to hear acknowledged by a feminist or even a woman once....strange).
The entire reason why military/police started requiring human targets is because human resistance to shooting is fucking insaneeely powerful. A military survey found something like only 10% of soldiers that made contact in WW2 before this type of training even managed fired their weapons and less aimed them. They called the phenomenon trigger finger frostbite.
Men's (perhaps condescending) pity of women/children and lack of willingness to hurt them in a combat sense in the overwhelming majority of the male population is well documented and understood..I can think of way too many examples to list...fuck if you study evolutionary biology, the reason given why women's faces change way less during puberty (feminine facial features are child-like features) and are hormonally enabled to cry easier in the same level as stress as men is to protect against violence through evolving features our brains recognize as childlike, innocent, non-threatening, and evoke pity/sympathy. As unlikely as it is that law enforcement / military (usually) will have a violent assault against them by women/children, they DO need to learn that if that happens to respond the same way they would with a man.

It is a great drill. I just had the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Team do it, down at T1G on Range-2. They did very well. However, not well enough to go into the shoot house with live ammo (at least not all of them). It is a bar to set for yourself. Aim for a score of 85, then 90, then 95. Try to always stay above 95%. Thanks for watching, TR

It only takes a couple boxes of ammo to be able to shoot this course multiple times, so it doesn't have to be expensive. You could also shoot this with a .22 for some cheap practice and trigger time.

Shots need to be scored after each stage to identify which skill sets need attention in training. Score after when qualing or when shooting with multiple people. Run this drill several times scoring each stage, then run a final drill to check score/ progress. Good to see solid USMC content.

why is the triangle the same number of points as the big boss and less than the smash box when it is smaller and a more lethal shot than than either?

What type of ear pro does he have on cause I cannot find any that will fit under my ACH?

    • @TacticalRifleman

Low-Profile Peltors fit. We take out the pads inside the helmet (Velcro), where the head strap touches. adjust the helmet pads around your ear pro.

Surely sight alignment is very critical when using any firearm. But I find that firing for effect with a "pistol" is more challenging due to three things ( holding the weapon steady, the firmness of the grip, breathing and trigger application. take care. peace.

Good helmets have modular pads inside, that you can move around to conform to your melon and headsets. We are running Peltors.

I wonder if the "Boarding house rules" Apply in the military doctrine. Meaning do two threats each get one shot and then get seconds?

Check out of video on the "Box Drill", as it covers two threats.
