What a thrill to see my old Mount Eisenhower Trail. I am so happy that you enjoyed it. It really was a favorite. The approach up the Dry River Trail has changed substantially with those washouts. Most of the trail was situated on an old logging railroad track but not anymore due to all the relocations. That suspension bridge was replaced after Hurricane Irene. I can not imagine how the water could get so high to wipe it out. Approaching what I call the Dry River confluence (three rivers coming together) there was an old Dry River Shelter which was removed due to overuse, hence all the confusing trails all over the place. I used one to cross the Dry River at another spot lower down to eliminate that switchback. I did go up to Dry River Falls once and regret that I never went further up towards Lake of the Clouds. When we maintained the Mount Eisenhower Trail, we brought a couple of bow saws, sometimes hedge trimmers, and I used a hoe as a walking stick. We were careful to keep the water bars cleaned out. I am pleased to see there still is not a lot of erosion on the trail. The woods really are lovely! A study was done about 1990 and the trail only averaged about two hikers a day so it was like I had my own trail. I see the upper part should be brushed out a little more. That was always a problem along with occasional blowdowns lower down. I never did hike the Mount Clinton Trail. What we did do on our day hikes was enough for one long day. I can not thank you enough for this video. It looks like our hard work paid off as the trail looks to be in pretty good shape. THANK YOU both! I appreciate the shout out.

It was truly a lovely trail and is in really good shape. Thank you for your years tending it. It takes real dedication to adopt a trail that is so hard to access! I bet there are more moose on it than hikers.

Wow, my brother and I probably didn’t miss you by much. We went up Jackson over to Mizpah and down Crawford Path yesterday. We had lunch at the hut around 1. Sorry we missed you. It was a good day to hike but the wind was very strong on Jackson. Very few black flies.

The Dry River area and looks really appealing--thanks for whetting my appetite!
Btw, what is the GPS app you're using? That looked like higher res than AllTrails or CalTopo?

We use GAIA. I play around with CalTopo, but don’t have the paid version. I think they’re both similar res.

Holy shit!!!! What a change. I remember the swimming hole you mentioned at the start of the trail.

It was easily the biggest change. Crazy to see it changed that much.
