As to which of his opinions were accepted (in the production process, Stephen hesitantly said "they didn't accept most of my feedback. A lot of people don't mention the masterpiece of the music score in this movie... The music at 1:36... And the tension it builds up when he is about to throw the lighter, then at 1:53 when the guy catches the lighter... The music changes to more calming peaceful and f****** emotional... So incredible. It is a great exchange of glances, they’ve known each other for months, maybe years as neighbours working alongside one another, maybe not as friends but passing associates, and it’s like they’ve both acknowledged a deep common ground now like seeing them for real for the first time as in “you too?” (they’ve trained in secret, they were provoked to defend and fight against wrong doing to that came knocking to their door) it’s like 2 superheroes without masks seeing each other for the first time

I love this fight scene because it was exhilarating to see 3 masters take out an entire terrorist team. It really brought out the “are they just weak commoners? Nope. They are men that can kick butt” . Just so cool how it took one brave man to make the others join and save the day.

I think that was another message of this scene. The Coolie, being the first person to stand up against the gang, ignited everyone’s fighting spirit. No pun intended, but he’s like the lighter that he caught. Sometimes, somebody has to be the “first” to inspire others to do the same.

That's because every single actor/martial artist here is a legend of it's own, including choreographers and stuntmen from yesteryear. And Stephen Chow crammed as many references, inside jokes and tributes into it as possible. The movie is a collection of homages to the entire genre. There are documentary style of clips here on UA-cam that try to cover all of them and they really just scratch the surface even if they are 15+ minutes long and state reference after reference at neck breaking speed.

The scene where the protagonist is being pursued by the woman landlord who always has a cigarette hanging out of her mouth and he uses the knife sticking into him as a mirror to see she is gaining on him then she splats into the poster and is suspended there is like something out of Bugs Bunny. The people in this scene that are being bullied by the axe gang really did try to explore all options of resolving the conflict in a peaceful manner up until they had no choice but to fight. To me it really shows the preservation of one self and to fight only when it's absolutely necessary. I understand that this a film, and that in real life things would have escalated a lot quicker a lot of people would have most likely died.

In Chinese Kungfu, the true master is often the silent protector who accepts hits and blows because he knows he can take it. But the moment an innocent victim is attacked, he will defend and fight. It is something like what was said in the ending scene of the movie "Dark Knight" - "Why is he running, Dad?" "Because we have to chase him. Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Dark Knight." A Kungfu Master.

Incredible scene, we have to repeat it 100 more times 😎
It is unique how a film that focuses on "comedy" can manage to convey too many more emotions to the audience with these scenes, in general the film is a gem because it experiments and has a touch of everything, without counting the performances, the dialogues, and the well-crafted soundtrack section, without a doubt I think that this film has aged very well, it was a film that in its beginnings was not valued but that has aged too well that today it looks so fresh and contemporary.
