It’s really rare that a movie can handle serious action scenes and comedy together like Kung Fu Hustle did
JEWS!!!!!!
Sollin Soccer
saolin soccer was the other one who could do this
Jackie Chan did
Yeah it's pretty easy, just give regular average Joe's unnatural super human strength and exaggerate physics in favor of the good guys.
This movie made me realize that, if we are ever to get a good live action dragonball movie, it cant be made by Hollywood.
Hollywood can't make anything good anymore.
Kung fu hustle director produced the dragonball movie actually.
@@psyeno That's not true
@@psyeno In regards to his involvement in the production of "Dragon Ball", Stephen Chow explains, "There's many types of producers in a film production. My role as producer is in the form of a consultant. Besides providing a few opinions, there's really nothing much I do in terms of the work involved." As to which of his opinions were accepted (in the production process, Stephen hesitantly said "they didn't accept most of my feedback. Perhaps they didn't think it was suitable so that was why they didn't use any of my input. I suppose the production companies have their reasoning behind this. I don't mind it at all. After all, the decision making is up to the studios."
Not a movie but a series.
A lot of people don't mention the masterpiece of the music score in this movie... The music at 1:36... And the tension it builds up when he is about to throw the lighter, then at 1:53 when the guy catches the lighter... The music changes to more calming peaceful and f****** emotional... So incredible. I tear up hearing this music in this particular scene.
In my childhood my real hero was this man(Collie) in this movie
@@mukulsingh3671 and he died without even fighting in his last fight
They don't know shit about score bro , I am talking about the netizens
i love this music too. so emotional. I also tear up hearing this music...
What about that music when this 2 fight with blind musician at night I like that music very much
3:35 this part gives me goosebumps. The glance they give each other, the calm of the music, and the break in fighting while they acknowledge each other is the definition of "Real Recognizing Real"
So Good!!!!!
they never wanted to fight the ax gang because it'll disturb their peace. but they had no choice when Chow and his goon friend terrorizing them causing their peace to be broken and several boarders to die or almost die.
It is a great exchange of glances, they’ve known each other for months, maybe years as neighbours working alongside one another, maybe not as friends but passing associates, and it’s like they’ve both acknowledged a deep common ground now like seeing them for real for the first time as in “you too?” (they’ve trained in secret, they were provoked to defend and fight against wrong doing to that came knocking to their door) it’s like 2 superheroes without masks seeing each other for the first time
A masterpiece you need to see before leaving Earth... ✌😎
Indeed
I will bring it with me if I'm leaving Earth.. so I can watch it again and again..
@@ernovanchannel how smart

My favorite part about all this is that the people who fought seemed to have kept something close that was similar to their training. Whether they did it intentionally or not. It Also makes you want to know who these people were before they became simple folk trying to live a peaceful life
Well, most martial artists were first class celebrities in older time, until gun apear and military no longer relies too much on melee combat, so many goverments use many way to destroy martial artist influence
Just a clasic move ❤
The ring fighter was cool he was my favorite
ههغثغفقتع هافتح عغلغ
Reminds me of karate kid "jacket off" moment
This scene to me is so beautiful. It is the symbol of ordinary people rising and resisting evil and oppression.
*You want give the "Axe Gang" a gasoline bath (just like one of their minion's did to that Chinese family) & then you want to set all of them on* 🔥
Your words are so cringe
You are one of those melodramatic ones eh.
@@nation5743 And you are one of those without a taste eh?
Kinda ironic that its a chinese movie right?
I understand why lot of people is a fan of Tailor or Coolie. But I never stop amazed everytime I see Donut's choreography, from how he kicked the bench to pick his weapon until the end of fight. Perfect choreography.
Donut 10/10
Maybe my favorite character in the movie.
This movie is masterpiece
That moment when Donut "activates", grabs the staff and jumps into battle is, IMO, one of the most badass moments in all of film.
He had the best scene with the blind guys he movement look like he was dancing he was the best hands down
I’m my opinion, this is definitely the greatest movie of all time. The action, comedy, music score, choreography, line delivery, acting, literally everything are all so perfect and they’re each handled beautifully, nothing feels like it’s clashing in theme or tone everything is perfectly and I mean perfectly laid out for the viewer
Definitely in my top 5
Emotional also❤.. Its A story of the battered... 🔥
music score was bits and pieces of two songs, xiao dao hui and zigeunerweisen
I have watched movies my whole life. You might be right. They say you dont remember the movie but one scene. If you have more than one scene people remember you have a classic. But this movie has so many moments. The shots andusic selection might be the best ever. If its not the best its in the top 5 and deserve to be in the discussion.
yeah, definitely. either this or citizen kane.
I love this fight scene because it was exhilarating to see 3 masters take out an entire terrorist team. It really brought out the “are they just weak commoners? Nope. They are men that can kick butt” . Just so cool how it took one brave man to make the others join and save the day.
“It took one brave man to make the others join and save the day.”
I think that was another message of this scene. The Coolie, being the first person to stand up against the gang, ignited everyone’s fighting spirit. No pun intended, but he’s like the lighter that he caught. Sometimes, somebody has to be the “first” to inspire others to do the same.
Who else cant forget this masterpiece ...lots of childhood memories
You mean refuse to
I saw it in theatres in grade 9. it's still amazing haha
How fucking old am i.... childhood???
@@pata6129 only the real ones understand this film to be the greatest film of all time.
I was nine when this came out and it inspired to take up martial arts. Still practice mix martial arts. The root where it all began.
This scene really shows that not all strong people like to oppress. they just wanted to live a peaceful life. But if u pushed their limit, youre gonna deal with monsters.

I first saw this film in 2005 when I was 7 years old with my dad. And even after so many years, I still can't get enough of this movie. Kudos to each and every person who's involved into making this. For me, It's one of the greatest movie ever. Each frame & each dialog has its own significance. Truly a masterpiece.
Ll
Truly a masterpiece indeed!
Agreed, beautiful movie
That's because every single actor/martial artist here is a legend of it's own, including choreographers and stuntmen from yesteryear. And Stephen Chow crammed as many references, inside jokes and tributes into it as possible. The movie is a collection of homages to the entire genre. There are documentary style of clips here on UA-cam that try to cover all of them and they really just scratch the surface even if they are 15+ minutes long and state reference after reference at neck breaking speed.
I was born in 2005 😆😆
I’m Japanese and a big fan of this movie.
I first saw this movie when I was an elementary school student.
This film inspired me to begin studying Chinese and even went on to study abroad in Beijing.
And when I saw this movie again after studying abroad,
I realized that the language spoken by the actors was Cantonese.
mainland people only like mandarin dubbed version, but the original version is more amusing, especially for the movies before shalin soccer
Cantonese much harder to learn but you can do it!
That is hilarious lmao
there is some mandarin spoken. I think its south for canto and north for mandarin.
You can try to learn cantonese, actually its not too hard, it's easier to learn to speak cantonese when u understand mandarin...
Kung Fu Hustle is a timeless masterpiece! If today Everything Everywhere All at Once is getting the respect it deserves, this movie more than deserved it back then.
Everything everywhere is ridiculous overrated
@@TheBlockbuster1982
Isnt Kung Fu Hustle infact EVERY RIDICULOUS Film somehow more better than other Genres?
Hard agree. It's a dizzying blend of Hong Kong action, Buster Keaton physical comedy and cartoons. The scene where the protagonist is being pursued by the woman landlord who always has a cigarette hanging out of her mouth and he uses the knife sticking into him as a mirror to see she is gaining on him then she splats into the poster and is suspended there is like something out of Bugs Bunny. Amazing work, surely Stephen Chow's best
Unlike EEAAO. KFH wasn’t an American Hollywood production Two totally different movies
Oh man, i really miss my childhood, i almost in tears wacthing this scene. This movie is legend 🔥

This was the first martial arts/ kung fu movie I ever saw. I didn’t even know the human body could move like this. It made me want to try martial arts 🥋
Bought a ticket to this accidentally when it was released. Had no idea what to expect. Was completely blown away.
Money well spent brother , this whole movie was ahead of its time
3:33-3:36 the eye contact said it all. "I got your back, now let's kick ass."
It was also that they were surprised by one another. They were nameless shop owners in a slum, hiding that they were once martial arts masters. They were both surprised that the other was also a martial artist.
@@georgekitchen7046 exactly
It's a subtle detail that I love about this scene. The Ring master is getting bulkier for every enemy he hits, and in the end, his body is like someone who train years..
It's like his muscle trying to remember slowly what it's like in his prime day..
Great observation!
3:37 play together again after offline for 10 years
"You're not dead. (You're not dead!)"
😂😂😂😂😂hahahahahahahahahha
I was expecting a generic build up scene with the town cowering, maybe some people getting "axed", but man I did not expect this! I was so hyped seeing this. I thought these were all generic background characters to build up the slum. I loved that this movie gave all these "background" characters life. The landlords were so boss!
The kungfu masters in this scene are actual kungfu masters in real life
watch the film, the scene coning up next with the hired assassins is the best fighting scene you have ever watched in a kung Fu Film bar none.

Carrying bags, making clothes, and baking, yeah. Then all of a sudden you realize they are prime, Jean Claude Van Dame, Arnie, and Jackie Chan.
The saddest thing in movie history was when this 3 warriors died, they perished but the did it with honor
spoiler! ...lol ... really didn't expect that, being it a sort of comedic kung fu movie.
because the scyript say those 3 arent the hero, stephen chow is the hero
I cried when they died.😭😭
this film is so beautiful in every aspect, i cry through most of it.
And when you watch till the end ,you still don't know what the mc name in this movie
I really love this scene in it's entirety. The people in this scene that are being bullied by the axe gang really did try to explore all options of resolving the conflict in a peaceful manner up until they had no choice but to fight. To me it really shows the preservation of one self and to fight only when it's absolutely necessary. I understand that this a film, and that in real life things would have escalated a lot quicker a lot of people would have most likely died.
I think this is meant to show our inner self, the calm in ourselves to rise up to the action when it is called for.
In Chinese Kungfu, the true master is often the silent protector who accepts hits and blows because he knows he can take it. But the moment an innocent victim is attacked, he will defend and fight. It is something like what was said in the ending scene of the movie "Dark Knight" - "Why is he running, Dad?" "Because we have to chase him. Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Dark Knight." A Kungfu Master.
I watched this as a teenager, maybe 17. Loved it as an action comedy. Every couple years I rewatch it, and find it even better. It's honestly hilarious, action packed, and beautiful.
It's one of those rare films that have great character developments, unexpected twists, and overall a good story.
when he caught it and said I DID IT, it just puts a huge smile on my face.
I know that's heroic and badass at the same time
when you think of Kung Fu Hustle you wouldn't normally think drama, but more on action and comedy and yet you have master piece scenes like this in the movie. I only realized it when i got older how much tension and drama that scene had, mom and child was about to burn alive and just your peaceful martial artists standing up when the last straw was drawn. I absolutely love this very underrated movie. More people should remember how awesome this movie was.
Superb movie ❤❤

I remember when i first saw this in the theater. The crowd burst with laughter when we realized the taylor is a master then we burst in laughter again that the cook was another master. Great memories.
I think the best bit on this masterpiece is the idea that the most powerful masters doesnt look like the cliche or villain. These 3 masters literally were seen as extras. Even the Fateful Lovers and the Toad. They all look like ordinary folks.

Closest thing we ever got to live action anime.
Legendary movie
What about the Matrix?
@@bdeamon1 you can consider matrix but kung fu hustle's vibe for live action anime is still superior.
@@anupamsharma8923 for some gag Shonen properties, like dragonball especially, it matches up pretty well. I think the Matrix's "vibe" is pretty on point for most of the more mature scifi anime I've seen

I love how Rings basically reloads when thrusts his hands forward, so nothing can sneak in the cracks of his defense.
Sure, but we all still know that the rings were really all glued together!
@Nandy Soto in some scenes maybe? In others definitely not.

It's called "self defense"
Not only ppl .. Basically all living creatures, i even read book that said if u keep use those 99% germ kill product eventually those 1% survivor will produce super germ generation
There guys were ultra masters of fighting, that choose to live a normal peaceful life.

I loved this movie since it first came out and what I loved about it is. People have that mindset that when you live in a village with a community of people that they’re worthless to society and how I see this is a village of strong people who will fight to the death for you.

China is making some of the best movies and their Cdramas are amazing. The concept that these simple men are living their lives but are in fact kung fu masters is brilliant.
This scene was a personal favorite of mine. Three seemingly harmless men who turned out to be major ass kickers.
Incredible scene, we have to repeat it 100 more times 😎
It is unique how a film that focuses on "comedy" can manage to convey too many more emotions to the audience with these scenes, in general the film is a gem because it experiments and has a touch of everything, without counting the performances, the dialogues, and the well-crafted soundtrack section, without a doubt I think that this film has aged very well, it was a film that in its beginnings was not valued but that has aged too well that today it looks so fresh and contemporary.
Ahhh classic... movie i never bored to watch..

At 3:31, I always thought that face blow was from the Tailor with some movie magic added to make it look like he hit the air so hard that his actual fist didnt need to hit the gangster's face. Turns out it's Coolie's kick connecting that gangster's face.
