The OG Grand Chairman, i remember it and the smaller one was a constant in the older vids. It's funny how you progressed from bowl to face and back to bowl. 😂 Really nice looking razor
Hi Mark- Great shave and razor review; thank you! It was very nice to hear about this razor and your impressions during the shave; well done! Enjoy the rest of the week. Best regards, as always, Mark.
I purchased this exact razor about a month ago. I found the blade alignment to be slightly off. However, I use this to my advantage and look at it as one side aggressive, one side mild shave! Besides that I absolutely love this razor from Pearl.
The L55 shd24 and 27 safety razors from pearl are all closed combs that's why they are mild open combs are always more aggressive more blade exposure unlike closed combs
Mr. Rz, I would say that Pearl makes a very good product at a fine price point. For less than 20 or 25 bucks, you get a razor with a solid brass handle that looks good and delivers a very good shave. Obviously, YMMV. But, as an example, the Pearl L-55: amzn.to/3ZaJ7Vn It has a 62% five star rating on amazon and is less than 24 bucks. I really liked it...smooth, mild, efficient.
Okiedokie, I think the Hammer has more aggression, IMHO. I can use this OC razor with a nicely coated blade as a daily driver...at least that's my thought. The Perl OC, while it appeared to be aggressive due to it's razor head reminding me of the Muhle R41, it was not as aggressive as I thought it would be. The Hammer, on the other hand, for me, is not a daily driver sort of razor. But I will use it with two to three days' worth of beard growth. YMMV with each.
@@MarkSzorady this is extremely helpful. I have tried the Pearl open comb but I have not tried the Hammer yet. I actually shave twice a day daily (single pass shaves per shave with a touch up), and Hammer could be a stretch although I do prefer medium aggressive razors and above in aggression.
Very nice shaving video, Mark!! I have always shied away from open comb razors. Pearl has done a wonderful job with the Pearl Open Comb Razor. On a scale of 1 to 5 where would you say this razor's aggression rating would be?
The head does not pivot. Not sure where that is listed. It's a safety razor, the same as all others. EDIT - Whoops! found that image. Missed that detail. I do not know what they are referring to. perhaps something lost in translation?
@@MarkSzorady The statement of "pivoting" was in the image shown in the video. I thought of this unusual description for a double edge razor and had to ask for either confirmation or counter-confirm.
@@MarkSzorady Some finer detail: Video shows an image of product description starting at eighteen minutes eight seconds into the time line, with identification labeling, "SSH-02-OC BLACK" and lower in the texted part of the description is stated, "PIVOTING ROUNDED HEAD hugs curves and fits easily into hard-to-shave areas". Pivoting head is typically not consistent with double edge razor; so I asked about this.
@@10floz30minutes Appreciate the clarification. Again my sincere apologies. That is an unusual description for a safety razor, for sure. But, no pivoting head. I wish UA-cam had an online editor where I could go into the system and remove the graphic but still maintain the status (views, comments, etc.) of the video. Re-editing and uploading the video once more makes it a second instance of the same video. That gets confusing for viewers. I'll insert a statement in the description to clarify for future viewers.
@@MarkSzorady Yah, perfect. Strange description statement in the product's description. Eventually somebody else will look at that displayed description and could make a comment or question .

Really nice looking razor
Pearl open comb and Gillette super speed, my 2 favorite razors

I just bought this razor and really liked it!
@MarkSzorady, as usual, another great detailed educational breakdown of wet shaving products. Your wet shaving videos are the highlight of my day.
Hi Mark Another great shaving vid. Love that open comb Pearl razor. The looks of the razor is stunning, very vintage looking, love it.
Take care Mark.
Matt, yes, it does have a vintage vibe to it.:)
Awesome video, as always!

very nice razor review !!
Great shave! 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, rhg lpk.:)
Nicely s the shaved. I think the longer one is in this hobby the more one's perspective changes, specifically with aggression of razors.
Patrick, yes. More expereince, technique improves, etc.:)
I AM curious how this razor would be for your head shave. YOU might be surprised what result you find. Some of US might or might not be surprised.
Nice shave Mark. the razor still sounds too aggressive for me. Have a great week.

Yes, generally speaking, as I understand it, blade gaps being equivalent.
Is pearl worth?

Really nice shave brother! The razors kinda looks like the paa open comb one or perhaps I don't remember it correctly 😅
Nice shave Mark. How would you rate the aggression on this pearl open comb versus the open comb plate of Pearl Hammer?

@@okiedokie_cool Recall that the Hammer comes with 2 base plates. A closed comb and an open comb.
Another great video in the books 👍✌️

Beth, for me, it would probably be a 3 or 3.5...or so. I can use it as a daily driver but with a "softer" blade like the Gillette Swede, etc.
"PIVOTING, rounded head,..." as stated in the image of the description? Is the head really pivoting?
The head does not pivot. Not sure where that is listed. It's a safety razor, the same as all others.

I use this razor with perma-sharp blades and find it to be very mild, it gives a efficient shave for 17 dollars you can't go wrong.
