I had way too much yellow yarn after a different project and this was the perfect use for it! I have mostly made blankets and hats following youtube videos, I've never used a pattern or made a plushy before, it turned out so great! Very easy to follow, I love the bobby-pin for the stitch marker, I will definitely be using that from now on. I used a 9mm hook with barnat blanket yarn, and it ended up being the perfect huggable size I wanted. Thank you so much!
I just made this & it came out great! I used super chunky blanket yarn & a 9mm hook. It came out like a small throw pillow. Your tutorial was very easy to follow! I look forward to trying more ⭐️
Thanks for including the hook size! I just bought super chunky yarn with a star pillow specifically in mind and I was hoping upping the hook size would make it come out big enough.
Waitwaitiwai... you can close a magic circle BEFORE you crochet into it!!?!? This changes everything. I must learn this because I love magic circles but I always hate the process of pulling the yarn tight and sometimes losing my first stitch.
i dont have yellow yarn, but i have this super cute pastel blue that will work :)) a bit thicker though, but that means he will just be a bit larger. super excited to make this in the morning
You're amazing at teaching! Just made this star for myself. I usually make projects for other people but I wanted something quick to treat myself. Thanks for the tutorial!
I’m not sure if it would work as non bulky amigurumi yarn tends to create a more round shape then a cone when started with the first couple rounds, also it is just 5 rows per point so I would imagine it would be really tiny but I could be wrong and you could have the cutest tiniest star😅 Maybe I could recommend just making one point and see if its round or cone shaped and go from there
I was trying to make my own pattern a couple months ago JUST like this but couldn't get it out of my brain properly! Thank you so much!! It's so cute and so easy to follow 🤗
thicker yarn and larger needle size but use the same pattern. shes using a size 4 needle so you can use size 8 or even 12. just find some yarn big enough for the needle
a jumbo version would be so cool! as another commenter pointed out, using a heavier yarn weight, or a larger hook size can make your plushies larger! (check out my shorts for visual examples of that, i have two posts on increasing/decreasing the size of plushies) you can also follow my “how to crochet a cone” tutorial where i show how to make any sized cone! so, you can make larger cones for the star points, and then decrease in intervals of five like how i did in this video to close off the star! feel free to dm me on instagram if you have any more questions!
this is such a cute design! i've already made a mini one to test it out and loved it, but i got a few large gaps when trying to connect the points for the second time around. i was wondering if there was a way to fix this by fixing which stitches i work into to make those gaps smaller?
hi!! i mentioned in the video that those holes may appear and that’s totally normal! what i do to fix it is take some scrap yellow yarn and just sew the openings closed!
wow those 6th and 7th rows where rough lol for anyone stuck on row 6, specially in the back, it’s better to manually mark the five groups of otherwise you could end up with more than 45sc
Thanks for making this tutorial and pattern! It was fun and easy to follow, and mine turned out great just in regular (hot pink 😄) acrylic yarn. One small thing that I did wonder about was that you referred to rows instead of rounds, although the star isn't worked flat 🤔
i’ve always used the two terms synonymously! i never realized that rounds were more often used in amigurumi 😂 to be fair though i start designing my own patterns quite early on when i started amigurumi so i guess i didn’t read enough patterns that had rounds used!
Hi!! Im not sure if you still reply to these comments, but ill ask anyway. When you begin round six on the back, where do you put the stitch marker? Through the chain stitch or the single crochet in the next one?
I'm finding it difficult to do the back of the star, trying to "repeat" row 6 and onwards and I'm not sure where its going wrong :// could you please make a video showing how you did this while showing the stitches ?
Hello! Not sure you'll answer this since it's been 6 months.. I followed this tutorial but made the star points bigger to make this crochet into a pillow (turned out to be 44 by 44 cm). Each of the last rows have 60 stitches in them (19 rows total), when connecting it took 30 stitches across for each two star points to connect, in total 150 (20th row). So in 21st row I should have around 145 stitches ig..? My question is, can i skip not 5 but 7 or 10 stitches when decreasing, so i can save some yarn? I can't really calculate how to do so, sadly😭 So sorry if my comment sounds rude, I'm VERY grad I stumbled across this tutorial🙏🏻
not rude at all!! i was actually planning on making a tutorial for a pillow sized star ⭐️ but you beat me to it lol! you can absolutely decrease faster, the one concern is there might be gaps between the stitches. typically in amigurumi 8 is the most to decrease by without the gaps forming. intervals of 6 goes into 150 easily but i’m not sure if that would be quick enough. have you tried decreasing yet? just curious if something is working for you yet (sorry for the late reply!)
only started, so i can't say anything yet :"] but i calculated the number of stitches to decrease while saving yarn. as you said, 6 for 150, then 8 for 144, 136, 128, etc.. then from 40 you can decrease by 5 and 3 as in your tutorial OR continue decreasing by 8 :] i also had an option to make an interval of 5 for 150, 145 and 140 but it would've been too time consuming.. i'll update on how it will turn out in a day!
Hey! I loved it and I wanna start crocheting with this star but I don't think I'm ready for the small yarns so do you have any recommendations with the big fluffy yarns (and sorry for my bad English)
I'm a bit confused on how to work into where the ends of each point is :( like the fastened off slip stitches? You just say to do the same on the other side :( I'm a beginner but I think I understand everything else you explained it great!
so on the backside of the star, attach your yarn to one of the unworked stitches on the back. each point should have a total of 9 unworked stitches (so they shouldn’t have any single crochets in them yet) and then just do 9sc in each point around! i hope this helps, but if you still need more help message me on instagram, @_crochantelle_ and i can send some step by step photos!
I’m trying to figure out how you get 45 stitches when you start the back, if I count 9 sc on each point I have huge holes at the connection of the other. Can you help explain this part a little more detailed please? Thank you for your time!!!
Hi! This is how I understand she got 45: each point has 18 stitches. But she's only doing 9 on each point for side A. There are 5 points to connect. (9×5=45) I haven't tried this pattern yet, so I'm not sure about the holes
hi!! it’s completely normal for there to be holes in between the star points!! at the end of the video, i end up sewing them closed! i should have made a note earlier on in the video to expect the gaps!
Same! Just finish watching the video. She explained it. I paniced when I realized it was leaving huge holes in each valley and then finished watching the video. I FELT SO STUPID. 🥲 BUT problem solved😂
oh no! if you need any help just message me on instagram @_crochantelle_! i’m sure it was just a miscount error (i make those ALL the time haha) but regardless i’d love to help :)
@@crochantelle ow thank you so much! Ill try to decrease with the different pattern when I get more yarn because the star is maaasive haha, but your patter is so cute and Im stubborn so definitely will try again, and if that fails Ill really need your help haha, again thank you so much girl!💖💖
Basically increase means doing two stitches into 1 so the row 2 is one single crochet and then 2 single crochet into one stitch and you repeat 3 times till you get 9 stitches
Saw this on your insta and needed to make one! super cute im pumped to make more!
I saw it this morning and went right out to get yellow yarn. So simple and so cute! Thanks so much for making such an excellent tutorial
no problem! i’m so glad you like it!!

yay i’m so glad you found this!!
For beginners like me, can you show us what you mean by increase and decrease?
yes absolutely! i’m going to do some video tutorials for those, most likely in a shorts format, and i’ll let you know when i post them!!
just posted a short on how to do an increase! i’ve recorded a tutorial on how to do a decrease i just need to edit that one :)
Same question 😢
An increase is two sc in one stitch
Increase is 2 sc in 1 stitch and decrease is 1 sc in 2 stitch together.
