First they were heels. Then Hayes became face, feuded with Gordy, then Gordy turned. They went to Texas as faces, and then the Kerry Von Erich vs. Ric Flair cage match in December, 1982 turned them heel for a while. Arguably their peak.

It is Vince McMahon juniors fault. He went around buying people up. And he wanted to make cartoon characters out of them.In regards to goofy names and goofy gimmicks.Vince junior was about entertainment. And he would scold you if you wanted to make it more about wrestling.Vince wanted the soap opera! He frowned upon the people that wanted that more realistic look! What a damn shame I really feel sorry for the kids and young adults of today because a lot of them may think that there was only one wrestling king. When indeed there were a good number of territories back in the day. There was more variety. And more bragging rights. For example say you are from TennesseeAnd you have first cousins in say Minnesota. You all get together for Thanksgiving in Tennessee. The year is 1980.So the Tennessee cousins and Minnesota cousins are going to have a squabble in regards of which wrestlers are best amongst there wrestling promotions. I actually experienced that in real life back in the day.

Totally agree with you Joe. I have seen some comments from other wrestling promo’s.I noticed a few groups that feel the AWA wrestlers were the best. Some of it had to do with the fact that Verne Gagne trained a lot of of the AWA people. And others felt hey my person trained me up very well. And they will tell you that Gagne had no influence. However as far as wrestling goes as a whole Verne was spectacular. He was in the 1948 world Olympics! And there was a time way back in the day that he and Lou Thez.where the two top dogs for big time wrestling!
