Wow, the memories just came flooding back to me when the Houston Wrestling theme music started playing. What a time to be alive ! I remember my father taking me to the Houston Colosseum to watch wrestling in the early 80’s. Man was it was exciting.

Above everything else was the MUSIC that they used at the beginning and end if Houston Wrestling . When I was young we always had The WWWF wrestling here but once in a while you would get an other wrestling group. One would be Florida Championship Wrestling on Channel 29 on Wed at Midnight then on Saturdays at noon on Channel 17 we,would get this Houston Wrestling both STATIONS were here in South Jersey. They were both fabulous.
I miss that theme song. I was 5 years old. I would start Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and a donut watching wrestling in Houston. This was a weekly ritual on Sunday mornings.

May have been one of the best, if not the best territories ever. The houston territory used all 3 world champions (NWA, AWA, WWF) and bought in stars from all over the country& the world not to mention Paul Boesh being a great payoff guy.
Plus no jobber matches and all main event caliber matches. I was raised with the AWA and Indy. All I saw as a kid was jobber matches with an occasional tape of a good match. Houston you had it made.

I was in Louisiana but had many friends from the Houston area who would tell me about how great Houston was and so I am stoked to finally see what they were talking about .
So you saw a Young Jim Ross from the time he first started working for what became Mid-South Wrestling and The Universal Wrestling Federation. I grew up watching Central States Wrestling which ran shows in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska. My impression of Houston Wrestling was that Wrestlers from not only other Texas Professional Wrestling Promotions wrestled at their shows, Wrestlers from Mid-South Wrestling, + The WWWF + The NWA + The AWA.
Wow. That January 7 card from the Summitt in Houston sounds like a who's who of legends. Superstar Graham, Funk brothers, Rhodes, Harley Race, Andre the Giant, Mark Lewin & Tiger Conway jr.
If I buy that ring I'll have to grow the moustache, sounds like a good plan to me. This is great, cheers from the Canadian bush. A lot of these wrestlers used to come up to Canada and just pack the house.

Thanks for the heart. I was just in the mood to poke at Eddie's mobile homes. I really appreciate the video mainly on Houston wrestling. Awesome seeing the memories of my younger years when watching Paul Boesch and the wrestling in the long gone Sam Houston Colosseum.
They're built like a jayco camper (the only thing missing from this broadcast is a commercial for slim Whitman's greatest hits on on two L.P.s or 8track tapes)
I live in a smallish regional town in south eastern Australia and we only had 2 tv channels until the late 80's and neither of them carried any wrestling. Matter of fact none of the eventual 4 channels carried any wrestling until 1992 and even that only lasted a few months. So yeah, I never got to see any wrestling in the 80's, as it happened. That said, wrestling in the 80's never felt alien to me, because when I saw it after the fact I knew that if I had been lucky enough to have had a tv channel that had carried it, I would have definitely watched it and loved it. Wrestling from the 70's? That's different because while I'm still very much enjoying it, it's also kinda weird thinking that I was about 2 days short of being 2 months old as this aired. So even if this particular show had been available on my local TV, I'd have been more interested in my feeding/crying/sleeping at the time, lol.
Listen to those great voices on the commercials! Now every voice on radio, tv, internet is required by law to be an air-head, meek, mouse-woman. Back then it was all about clarity.

Paul Boesch did these 2 ring Battle Royals once or twice a year the Battle Royal was the main event The semi-final was a 6 man two ring tag team match using both rings and 8 other single matches usually 1 fall 15 minutes each
Since you like my comment. Go to the Mall of the Mainland in Tx City. And go watch Reality of Wrestling with Owners Mike and Charmelle Huffman(Booker T and Skye) and see for themselves. It's at World Gym arena at Mall of the Mainland.
While Booker T asks permission from the Paul Bosch estate for the Houston Wrestling theme. He needs to get a deal with the Bosch estate about showing at World Gym Arena any items, ranging from the light blue curtain with the Houston Wrestling Ch. 39 sign etc. Like a mini museum.
The Sam Houston Coliseum held 9,000. The Summit opened in 1975 and held 16,000. It was only natural that Boesch would want to promote bigger shows on occasion. The first show at the Summit was in May 1977, headlined by Nick Bockwinkel vs. Terry Funk. The upcoming show mentioned here was the fourth show at the Summit and the second in a row headlined by Race vs. Andre. Andre was never pushed as a title contender for obvious reasons but Boesch had the ability to make it work here.
I looked forward to visiting relatives in Houston because I knew we were all going to watch wrestling. I only had access to to Texas All Star which became Southwest Championship Wrestling. When cable finally came around I could watch Dallas and the WWF and Georgia. I miss the 70's and 80's style of wrestling!
When Bill Watts went under, Boesch brought the WWF into the fold. Unlike Watts, the WWF cut Boesch out of the action and started promoting the shows on their own within weeks. What other options did you think Bruce had?
@@georgeelmerdenbrough6906 He was booking World Class for most of its run. I think that was enough for him then. A couple of years after World Class folded, I believe he took a shot at starting his own promotion to try to revive Dallas but it didn't fly.
He had a short stint in Texas as a promoter right after the USWA pulled out and GWF began. Somewhere around 1991. Texas world federation championship wrestling I believe. Horrible name. You can find it here on UA-cam.

I was there for a Monday Night Football game in either 1977 or 78 for the Oilers vs Miami. That place was electric as the Oilers thanks to Earl Campbell pulled out the win late in the game. People went insane on Campbell's long run ro take the lead. That game is still ranked as of the top 20 games in NFL history.
