Bernie Mac was barely in 12 because he was filming his show at the time. I think it may have cut his time on 13 as well.
Have you seen LA Confidential? Edit: You have. How about the Bourne Identity series or The Hunt for Red October. On an exceedingly different front, The Perks of Being a wallflower is a great film based on a novel. The author wrote and directed the film, his first doing either, and it's very good, though a high school film set in the 1990s. But far from your typical teen film.

I'm so glad for your set of Ocean's reactions. When I was in an intro film production class, we were all asked what movies we enjoyed. I mentioned the Ocean's series because they were fun and interesting. I couldn't quite articulate why.
My prof chuckled and made me feel like I was stupid for enjoying the movies. I think I've carried that with me for a long time without reflecting on it. I appreciate your comments about the craftmanship of the films and putting words to why I enjoy them.
    Really appreciate it!

Your prof sounds like an asshole who doesn't know much about cinematography. This movie is a masterpiece, incredibly smart in the way it's written, the photography is out of this world, the pacing is perfect, the soundtrack is one of the greatest, the comedic timing is to die for. I've always think that comedy is one of the hardest things to do and this trilogy did without failing. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sorry... I guess I like these movies a lot

The Ocean's series is the best, why would your teacher chuckle? From so many points of view, these movies are masterpieces. The script, the acting, the music, the way they keep the spectators on the edge of their seats. Even the angles from which they filmed are brilliant. For example in Ocean's 11 when Dany and Rusty visit Rueben at his villa, every single pictures is unbelievable. Or the scene in the end when they all stand in front of that water fountain and the music is just perfect. Ocean's 12 is also so well filmed, for example the scene where Rusty is chased by the police and he sees the girl for the first time. Not to mention the scene where Dany meets the nightfox at his villa near lake Como (if i'm not mistaking), then the laser scene....In my opinion the only fault would be the choice of music in this last movie Ocean's 13, and the too many scenes where the light seems to be really red or orange but I get it, they wanted to really transmit that casino atmosphere. But other than that, brilliant.

I love how Soderbergh worked with different screenwriters for the different movies, as well. Not only was he very conscious of switching up styles for each movie, the different writers all bring a new sensibility to what otherwise could get very repetitive. While I would say Twelve is my favorite, the writers of Rounders and Billions bring a really grounded and thematically rich conclusion to the series. I think it's the most interesting in terms of Vegas history and gambling mechanics, and I thought it was so cool how they brought Sinatra into it as a way of referring to the old school values the team lives by. The culmination of the "Reverse Big Store" is one of my favorite moments in any heist movie because instead of watching some thieves steal money for themselves, the moment is about EVERYONE making bank, not just the 11 - that montage really makes you feel like you're winning along with everybody else, and as a culmination for the series, I couldn't think of a more perfect ending.

There are several lines in these movies that are so subtle that most people miss them the first time they watch these. For example, two members of oceans crew are talking to each other at one point and it's unclear what they're referencing. One of them says something like, "I feel bad for everything we're putting him through."
The other guy responds, "Well at least he gets to Susan B. Anthony at the end."
The first guy responds, "I wouldn't do it for 10 million, I'd do it for 11 though."
Then at the end of the movie we see who they were talking about when the guy hits the 11 million dollar payout at the slot machine in the airport.
God tier level of writing in all these movies.

Lookin' fly today dude! Each one has its style and feel, but Ocean's 13 has always been my favorite of the three.

"Peligro es mi nombre medio." Probably my second favorite of the trilogy, behind the first. Some great cameos in this one. Julian Sands, veteran of many a B-movie, plays Greco.
A lot of people had problems with Ocean's 8, but I enjoy it and hope you will to. It was refreshing after this one went back to being a boy's club after 12 introduced some women characters.

My friends and I loved the Ocean's films. At the initial release the popular consensus was that Ocean's 12 was the weakest film, even though it was my favorite. I'm glad time has proven that Ocean's 12 was just a little misunderstood. But yes, all 3 films are really solid. My personal rank 12, 11, and then 13.

Long while since watched, but I like that it's almost a blink and miss it line on repaying the inspector - via the jackpot - for what they put him through. Something like 'would you go through all this for ten million dollars?'
And Saul(iirc) replies with 'No, but I'd do it for eleven..'

13 is by far my favorite, mostly because there's no boring romantic B-story that derails the plot. It's all about the heist.

I love that you had so much fun with the first film that you said F it and treated yourself with the next 2 films. In keeping with the Bernie Mac train I was curious if you've ever watched Bad Santa? He was great in that one.

Counterpoint: Ocean's 8 isn't bad. It isn't as good as the Soderbergh films, but it's pretty decent.

I think 11 has advantages over the other two in that the characters are fresh and therefore we don’t yet have a firm idea of how they might act in any given situation.
I think 11 has the strongest plot and 13 follows very closely behind. However, I also like 12 a lot - potentially more than the other two. It has a significantly weaker plot but stylistically it is more appealing than the other two. I put this down mainly to it being filmed in Europe predominantly versus Vegas for the other two. So rather than being an almost entirely nighttime/inside a casino with no windows affair - it’s amsterdam/paris/rome during the daytime with all the sensual delights that creates.
