Christopher Lee's voice could make a grocery list sound epic.
true lol XD
True
Argonova and a job list for the maid.
"Go and...clean the bath,
Go and set the table...
Go and..."
(That "..." is for epicness)
I totally agree.. also, there was an italian actor who amongst readings of Dante's Inferno also did readings of grocery lists.. and made them sound just as epic.
what was their name? are they still alive?
Tolkien said that the best power of Saruman is his voice, with his voice he can hypnotize and control who hear him.
Cristopher lee is the best for making the Saruman voice, no doubt
Christopher Lee's voice just exudes power. Id on't anyone on Earth was more suited to play Saruman.
Tolkien himself actually wished that he would play Gandalf, if there would ever be a movie made. To Gandalf it would suit nicely as well I think, because it is said that Gandalf can bring hope anyones heart and make people act for the better. A powerful voice as well, although not in a manipulating way.
@@stefan1924 Stefan, you bring up a valid and interesting point. Sir Christopher Lee would've been a great Gandalf as well, no doubt. Simply for his knowledge of the Middle-Earth canon and his extensive actor experience. But I think as the trilogy is, sir Ian McKellen was a better choice for Gandalf. Simply because I don't see him being as effective a Saruman. Christopher Lee could've played the good guy, of course. But he was ever so effective as the bad guy, my goodness..
We should create a sith lord that can do that.
Christophr lee seems to have had a preference for villains
Preferrably ones that wpuld meet a nasty end and die on screen
Imagine Christopher Lee reading you a bedtime story...
I'm not known for wetting my bed, but that might be the one occurance
Giving? Christopher Lee IS the bedtime story!
FlammieLL now what in tarnation does that mean ??
And then Goldilocks said: “this porridge is too hot!”...
@@gandalfstormcrow7943 Christopher Lee's life was full of wonders and amazing stories, the dude probably lived the most remarkable life of any person in the past 150 years.
When he spoke in the tongue of Mordor it really sounded like it was Sauron himself, victorious at last and reveling in fiendish delight over all Middle-Earth.
O-O
Truly, I began to fear for my life when such words were uttered in that unholy tongue! I cannot deny that I wanted to stop it there... yet I had not the strength to dispel that powerful voice!
When he said "The Dark Lord..." I expected "...of the Sith called Dath Sidious".
Benedict cumberbatch did a great job as the necromancer aswell
@@unknowntimelord9557 He came to bargain, neither silver or gold
But his soul
Sir Christopher Lee loved and knew Tolkien probably more than anyone alive outside of Tolkiens children. He even met Professor Tolkien and told Peter Jackson it was a lifelong ambition to be involved in an onscreen Lotr. He fulfilled this goal and many more. Rest easy Lord of Metal and Rings
Supposedly, the man read the full trilogy every year.
@@danielstephens1185 not just the trilogy. He read all, all of Tolkien's works once every year because he loved it
He was the only one in the cast and crew that had ever met Tolkien in person, and was the only one to have received his blessing for the movie (specifically, for his unrealised role as Gandalf). Mr. Lee was a legend with many a great accomplishments throughout his long, and full life. May he rest in peace
@@riatorex8722 I think Christopher Lee as Saruman was far more fitting for him than Gandalf.. He has the perfect voice for manipulative characters and have true dominance in his voice. Ian McKellan does have his dominant presence as well, but in kind of in a softer/gentler way, and thus was better for Gandalf. Although I am curious to see how Lee would've been as Gandalf.
@@riatorex8722 the blessing part is bs, they basiccaly just said hi to each other
I love how it's all calmingly sinister in "the common tongue", but as soon as Christopher Lee started speaking the Black Speech of Mordor, CHILLS.
It’s the first part that gives chills. When the Black Speech kicks in the chills are replaced by pulse pounding abject terror.

TheOldOakSyndicate There is a Tolkien citating version my friend, that is way better. No disrespect, just saying my opinion (:
TheOldOakSyndicate - May he rest in peace. And may his work live on with in us.
@@profesorstevabakmaz4822 I heard a recording of Tolkien himself reciting this, it was nice but too fast imo. Not enough dramatic pauses to my taste
Knowing that the were acquainted gives me a great feeling about this. Tolkien would be proud of this reading, and Lee knew exactly how to deliver it properly, in a way that will never be equalled.
As much I'm concerned, He is immortal.

Christopher is the only actor that speaks clearly and precise in any language.
He really does - not nearly enough people know this, but he had a bit of a foray into symphonic metal of all things after working with the band _Rhapsody of Fire_ on their album, _Symphony of the Enchanted Lands II_ as a narrator. He also sang a duet with the lead singer called _The Magic of the Wizard's Dream,_ and it was released in 4 different languages - English, German, Italian, and French. All being fantastic.
He apparently liked this endeavor so much that he went and released his own metal album based on one of his own personal favorite historical stories, _Charlemagne._
All 5 of them
Such was the power of Lee's almighty voice, that to threaten a man's life in Polish would cause the ground to shatter.

He has a good voice, but Cate Blanchett’s voice is just so good as well.

He played the situation like a fucking boss though…smuggling out the elven Rings, admitting his mistake to everyone, dueling Sauron personally on the steps of the Gwaith-i-mirdain hall. Like Finwë at Formenos. Poor Tyelpe, he longed for the light but was swallowed by the darkness.
@@sophiejones3554 Agreed! That phrase would do just perfectly.
Evidently there was a day on set where some poor script girl was trying to explain the one ring to him, and he couldn’t get a word in, so he stood up and said this word for word from memory to scare her and show he knew *EXACTLY* what the one ring meant.
All I can say after hearing it myself is... that poor girl.

May Sir Christopher rest in peace. Sadly, I never met him in person, that was my greatest wish. But in his work, his movies, he's immortal!

wow, great to know, thanks Vincent Linsin
+Vincent Linsin But you got to admit, he did Saruman justice.
It sucks that he was denied that but he was simply perfect as Saruman just as Ian was perfect as Gandalf, in the end the movie is better for it. Though his death getting cut from the theatrical version is absolute bullshit, what a despicable way to disrespect both the character and the man.

The magnificent literature works of Tolkien have now lost one of their greatest fans. Rest in peace Sir Christopher Lee.
Sir Ian McKellan didn't do the most of them either...just saying.
I kind of hate to say it but they made the right choice between who played Gandalf and Saruman. In my opinion the actors suited their roles better.
@@sheevpalpatine80 I agree as well, because if Lee was Gandalf, who could equal his presence and menace as Saruman?

This man was a legend. Plain and simple. He is the coolest and most badass villain in every movie he was in.
SEaster IslanderS and a real life badass
Christopher Lee's exceptional acting, and amazing voice, are enough to almost make us forget that he was also a ww2 combat veteran. From his volunteer service to help the Finnish, to hunting Nazis with the SAS, the man was a warrior long before he was an actor.
Apparently he was also a skilled swordsman, and was also a friend of Tolkien's. It seems he harbored a life-long desire to help bring Tolkien's vision to life...and he succeeded.
Christopher Lee and James Earl Jones have the greatest voices I have ever seen grace the silver screen by a large margin.

Nobody could ever portray Saruman better than he did.
The poem/curse is the only thing you really hear from Sauron directly in the story and it's just dripping in irony and contempt (Nine for mortal men... Doomed to die). His creepy focus on numbering is also archetypal imperial evil
Christopher Lee also read the entire book of Children Of Hurin, 18 chapters I have of him reading out loud for us!!

@@Zarryon12 True, just saying being descended from Charlemagne isn't a super duper rare thing
@@auberginemanproductions1608 yeah, but his “claim” comes from that he was actually a member of an old noble house that could *supposedly* be traced back to a branch of Charlemagne’s family, legitimately without bastards and the like. Of course, the further you go back the harder it is to distinguish fact from family myth, so who knows. Being a noble house, they are more likely than most to be direct descendants, but at the same time claiming descent from Charlemagne would have been a viable political ploy for legitimacy and influence centuries ago and might have come to be mistaken as truth by the family over the years.
Whether or not he’s a Charlemagne descendant, Christopher Lee was raised in nobility back when that was still a thing outside the royal family and their cousins. Dude went from being nobility trained in fencing, opera, and theatre, to a WW2 secret agent, and then to a world renowned actor. He had a pretty cool life.
