cold and industrial is a valid aesthetic choice for those who prefer it. it seems a bit backhanded to compliment one aesthetic at the expense of the other.
Late reply, but I’ll just answer your question. It is probably the warm lighting and what surrounds it, light always bounce on a surface or can be absorbed; in this case the warm tone of the wood and a white paint with warm tint, it really reflects the light and bounce around the room and that’s why it feels warm (or maybe it could be just the video filter 😂)
I was just about to write that. It's like I never understood the beauty of design and this video wrote out the equation for me. Something strangely objective and truthful about it all.
Beauty has brought me to tears on more than one occasion. When I watch videos about tiny houses, I often cry. Not so much from the beauty of the house, but because the owners have taken total control of their lives, pared down, and are happier than they've ever been. I'm saddled with 4,000 square feet of Queen Anne, and a yard that needs daily attention, and would love to sell it all and start again somewhere... A friend just up and moved out to the Northwest. Hoping that she'll be my inspiration.
I am speechless. Such a beautiful home and the way they played with the light and the water reflections is so amazing. How beautifull all the materials are integrated. And the view into the garden is simply breathtaking. A true masterpiece
This house is-- DIVINE! Spare without feeling sterile. The lighting is perfectly thought out. It must be a total experience to be there at night. Too bad it's only 3 feet from the neighbors, tho, and that the neighbors up the hill can watch you in your backyard. City living I guess. I have a quote that echos her remark-- "In the most successful spaces, you don't see everything at once." ~ Vincent Wolf
As an architecture student, this has been an inspiration really. I would want to design my own home in the future with this kind of simple yet elegantly impactful design. Thank you for sharing this
The way the mood and atmosphere of the house completely changed at night. WOW. each space in the house feels so therapeutic. This a home that feels like it would be good for your soul. This video was beautiful. Manifesting this for me one day ❤️
Madeleine is a super-modest design genius. that home is amazing, night and day: elegant, modest, thoughtful, sensitive, functional, soothing, interesting, warm, inviting, comfortable....
One of the most beautiful house I've ever seen. No clutter, very minimalist and peaceful. The use of light (natural or artificial) is just perfection. Bravo!!
Love this cozy not too large homes. The idea for the living space to look like a treetop view is genius. Even the drone shot of the family on the countertop looks so inviting.
Honestly I've seen so many home tour videos and this is by far the most memorable and beautiful home I've seen. It's modern, yet warm. It's not a giant house that consumes you, but a tastefully thought-out space that you would feel happy living in.
Lovely, the house exudes a Zen feeling, without being too miimalist. The use of light is seen through the eyes of an artist, wonderful. I love the time-lapse that showed the multiple shadow patterns that creep over the floor and walls. Gorgeous.
i love the way the terra cotta floors blend with the wood in the adjacent room, and how she describes it as walking on sand. she speaks like a true architect! the way she describes the way light changes throughout the day is something i also appreciate in a home. while the home appears simple, its apparent so much thought and meaning went into it. very interesting!
Her voice + the editing + the colors + the home design + the music make this the most satisfying video I've ever seen. First time in my life a home video made me emotional. wow.
This is the most intelligent and sophisticated yet not very expensive looking because of the blend of simplicity, aesthetics and naturistic design I've ever seen. And her voice is very soothing in the ears, feels like she's story telling in a love story movie. Excellent work!!!
I loved how the architect actually talked and get to know the children so she could make the room perfect for them. I'll integrate that into my way of work. Thank you.
Literally my dream home. So modern, contemporary but also resort style. It feels so relaxing & airy. Also love the dining chair, low & didnt cutting the view
The house is beautiful. I love the way Madeleine talks us through it, giving insight into how and why she's designed parts in the way she has, and giving it more meaning. Beautifully filmed too.
I like the concept behind the kids' room. What a mindful choice to incorporate those elements to fit their personalities and not just design the room with their favorite color in mind. A thoughtful and insightful design
This video was a delight! The house is exceptional in every way and Madeleine's calming presence resonated throughout the video. Someone should convince her to read audiobooks haha.
So many commissions focus on making a statement about the owner or his/her tastes. But, people change--and, what was once a certainty becomes stale and confining. Ms. Blanchfield helps me realize here that design's higher calling may be to help the owner humanely reconnect with what's timeless, and help de-emphasize ego without becoming completely anonymous or sterile.
As I undertake the journey of venturing back to Somaliland (from the US) to build my forever home, I take so much inspiration from Madeleine's description of what a home could look and feel like. I am manifesting my dream home and borrowing some ideas and principles from this beautiful piece of art otherwise known as one's gorgeous home!
This is the first house shown on this channel that resonates with me the most. They maximize the space of the house, there's a library, a lawn, a balcony, simple and not too much of a too much material and good plays of all the material. Things that are commonly used to build a house is found in the major view of the house like wood and things that are not common like you don't see grey concrete on the wall everywhere on the house like in some houses. This house has a bit of everything in the best way possible.
I love how the house seems to switch itself between its day and it's night vibe, it is so lively and energetic as its ready to start the day in the morning, and at the evening the house changed into 'pajama time' to end the day and chill with the family. Simply put, beautiful.
Love how the light and the materials and texture are dancing together throughout the day (on wood, reflections of the water, on concrete...). A different story everyday. Very poetic.
Love this house, i'm a designer too and this lady explained exactly how good design works from start to finish, she ticked all the boxes, you can tell she designs with passion.
Madeleine's house is absolutely stunning. Brilliant videography. I love how the bird played in the pond. I'm in Melbourne, it's gloomy and we are in lockdown. This video lifted me and I lost myself in observing such architectural beauty.
This is hypnotic, very addictive, extreme beautiful spaces that I would love to visit, that staircase is unforgettable, the pond in front of the boy room is pure joy, traveling back and forth with the used materials is a symphony, bravo 👏🏼to the designer and to the construction team
This is absolutely stunning! The most beautiful and masterfully designed house i have seen... What an incredible skill in harnessing light to make this place so dynamic, truly light, both natural and artificial, is used here as architect's tool in elevating the building. I'd love to live in such a beautiful place. Hope my skills will reach that level one day. Beautiful ❤
One of the most amazingly detailed houses I've ever seen! WOW‼️ It's a masterpiece‼️ Sculpturally miraculous and exquisitely executed everywhere the camera took us on the tour. I can see why Madeleine Blanchfield says you can see something different every time you walk in, so many gorgeous layers. I think this house design and it's decoration are up there with all the famous masterpieces in the art world. I would hire Madeline to design me a house too, if I had all the money in the world....Thank you for such a delicious, visual feast for the senses....
Beautiful! Now this is how you do concrete inside right. Feels warm and welcoming and not cold and industrial. ❤️
We agree!
cold and industrial is a valid aesthetic choice for those who prefer it. it seems a bit backhanded to compliment one aesthetic at the expense of the other.
@@TheLocalProject how can I get in touch with you? I just bought a land back home and Would like to start a project hopefully March of 2021

The house is simply stunning but the “cinematic” editing of this video with the background music makes it a whole experience.
Stunning
on point!
And her voice.
I was totally mesmerized by it
I absolutely agree
this woman's aesthetic is on POINT. she knows what she's doing
Ooooh the lighting in that home both natural and artificial have been well thought out
The calmness she exudes is also visible in her house and it's so relaxing to listen to her soft voice as the video shifts into the house's every nook.
Yes it all blend perfectly together, big shout out to those who filmed and edited this video.
When you’ve long stopped fretting over cash flow, you’ll exude calm, too.
@@1lllllllll1 very true 😊

Such a nice marriage of mid-century modern and minimalist. Interesting to see what a sort of a house a highly successful architect lives in.
This house is such a considered space. I like the way the house keeps revealing itself to the owners. A job well done!
