Lyrics:
Knocking on doors and swallow every key
Knocking on doors and swallow every key, carelessly
What a terrible time we had, do you want it back?
What a terrible time we had, do you want it back, timelessly?
We lived in the smallest world and all of it darkened as we slept
Knew our paces dictated the turn of the moon and the earth
And yet we still battled, began to doubt ourselves
I saw a softness in you as you were, so that’s where my claws went
I used to drink off of you, take sips of perspective from things you said
And when we disagreed it would burn, but I still loved to taste it
Then something bittered, something within ourselves
Just as most of the things I deserved, I learned how to waste it
I made you sick where I had meant to make you mine
I found loneliness in a room that you were in
I know it tore you up, it wasn’t by design
Do you care that it’s over?
Do you ever trace the lines?
Was it shared?
Are you sober just to show we’re not alike?
Walking home is harder
The pace gets hard to keep when you’re in all the windows outlining every street
Do you disappear if I break them or show up in every piece?
We don’t ever speak but I’m holding on, I’m holding on, I’m holding on
Which version of you is the right one - the one from our memories?
The one locking doors that I knock on and swallowing every key?
I don’t want to sleep but it’s coming on, it’s coming on, it’s coming on
Do you care that it’s over?
Do you ever trace the lines?
Was it shared?
Are you sober just to show we’re not alike?
I said I loved you as a way to change the subject, fingers breaking as they crossed
You said you loved me so you wouldn’t have to prove it, with both eyes towards the door

Years later I still miss this band, regardless of the lineup change. This album was so good, underrated and missed..
Same. Moxy The Band fills that void a little though.
Still am myself memory lane is so sweet alongside sounds like this
I've been listening to this song for over two months nonstop.
An absolute 10/10 emotional track.
Could not have picked a better actor than Frankie Ray. Life and change are hell but beautiful lyrics and sound always ease the blow. We all suffer together. In that, we are one.
thank you Bong.. that really means allot to me. i dug deep for these vids i am proud of them. and love there music they are wonderful men these are true artists.
The old man tearing up while they were playing really hit me for some reason
Thank you I’m your old man. The Dir i have worked with before flew me in for the two videos. He said just do what you do and let me go. So wonderful to just let an actor feel it the way it struck,
I didn't know of Frankie until The Sound of Us and this. I really enjoyed your performance in the videos, Frankie!!! Will be checking out some movies of yours.
"Are you sober just to show we’re not alike?"
Jesus.
Legit Frankie killed these two videos. I love coming back to them for his acting and the songs.
Hey all i Play the old man in these vids. just my point of view from someone who has lived allot. I play With Tim and Erics band Pusswhip gangbang I have had the pleasure of working with the likes of Michael Jackson Marlon Brando and have personal relationships with some of the most famous and successful musicians in the world. as you get older you will realize that LIFE and ART are about balance and change, growth. Look at your own lives and ask yourself "do you really only want to do ONE thing your whole life"? if this band is growing and maturing this is natural and healthy. getting a musical compliant out of me is rough. these artists are true and on track to be great. If you only want SCREAMS then that may be what is going on in YOU emotionally and you should really look at that. allow yourself to feel other things. Other than the rage and anger.. i play a variety of characters sometimes i am allowed to be human have emotions most times not. there is love in you and light be balanced like this band is. i believe that you deserve to feel it all, experience it all, live it all.... don't you????? DO YOU CARE THAT ITS OVER? ........................IS IT JUST A WASTE OF TIME.
I agree. Don't judge until you listen. This album is a work of art. So since you are the man in the video himself, I am legitimately wondering who he represents in the songs. I have my assumptions, but I want to know!! :)
well like any good song the words are vague and let you place them where they are applicable to you, what does this character bring up in you? where does he take you emotionally? did he affect you? do you feel he was connected to the song? the moment. what does he bring to the surface to you akreno94? and yes being a musician myself the musicians in this band are true artists and very talented.
My name is Alison! Very nice to meet you Frankie. Yes they are vague, but I pictured a future version of myself having regrets of past relationships. I also was connecting Cory to your character in the video being his father, which I know he has a lot of emotional connections with in his previous music. I just wondered if you knew ALLB's specific intentions since they were the ones who created the music video for the song. :) They are extremely talented. I absolutely love the album. This song realllly hits home though.
Hi Alison well i had an outline of the vid they allowed with the director and me to bring allot of our interpretation to the songs witch is wonderful for an actor trusting me to bring something memorable im glad it resonates with you
Frankie Ray Love your performance in this. I definitely agree with you. I am glad that A Lot Like Birds took this direction. The emotion in the words, weighs so heavy and gracefully. Those upset about how they use to sound need to embrace change, and yes other emotions than anger. Couldn't have said it better myself.
I freaking love the mans acting in the two videos he's in. Just very lovable and interesting.
Agreed
hey Sacred Thank you so much. im Frankie Ray the guy in the vids. they let me do what ever i wanted gave me free reign...... it warms my heart that you identify with the emotional choices i made for these pieces. i have been blessed to do allot of films and commercials and tv shows in hollywood... these pieces are the work im most proud of in my 23 years as an actor. thank you for the comments
Frankie Ray I have to say it's very sad to see the band breaking up :(
hey Ryan i am very sad to know this also so talented and such wonderful guys.
As an old school fan, I really dig this actually
Cory's voice is amazing!! I love the new and the old stuff. I'm happy to see the band grow and keep going after Kurt left. Also I have had the pleasure of meeting Cory in person and he is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. I wish nothing but the best for them.
the first verse is the singer from the band foxing
"I used to drink off of you
Take sips of perspective from things you said
And when we disagreed it would burn,
But I still loved to taste it"
Holy shit i fucking love that
I never heard the old stuff - My son listens to these guys and I overheard them. This is great. I thought modern music was all Lady Gaga and Katy Perry - turns out there are actually bands with talent out there. Coming from an unbiased non fan opinion, this stuff is great - don't miss out because it doesn't sound like the old lineup - its still great music. This is the kind of stuff that needs support in a day in age when everything is old men writing computer music for chicks who can't sing without auto tune.
Arthur Chapman I love this statement, thank you for making it :p check out The Dear Hunter you may dig them. oh and really look at snarky puppy, they are doing some amazing things creatively and it truly is outstanding
This comment makes me happy
Arthur Chapman Music is still great, you just have to look for it! :)
vineofthedead Amen to The Dear Hunter
Arthur Chapman while that's true and all and this stuff is okay, I'm never in the mood for slow music so to me it's a definite downgrade to what they used to make.
Im loving the new direction that ALLB is taking. Deep and cathartic, I feel the emotion in Corys vocals.
looking forward to the new album
"The band announced on their Facebook page that they will be breaking up following almost ten years together."

RIP Thank You Guys. These songs will continue to live on no matter what.
Somebody get this frantic, drunken man a movie deal please.
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i agree thank you Machinegun im your old man.... Hit up my youtube Hollywoodbadguy1
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa get Me a movie deaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal he he thank you sir
One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It remains on daily repeat. Thank you so, so, so, so much for this album.
Everyone is talking about the change in style, but no one is talking about the magnificent Frankie Ray.
your to kind its about the music and where the vid takes us. but thank you
that blue shit is powerful stuff like the band
I could tell! Makes me want some, lol.
lol actually it had little metal flakes in it from the jar. we wondered about drinking it but hey we were in the moment. i appreciate your acknowledging my performance its a fine line to not over shadow the song and band when you the main character and its well so extreme i truly hope that people get the song and where I chose to come from in my relation to it. That blue stuff brings truth
Haha, go big or go home, right? I thought everything about these two songs and videos was perfect.
Are you working with ALLB to make a series of videos? I think that'd be awesome.
Cory is the master of finishing off a song with just beautiful lines that always bring the feels.
I fuck with this, very proud of you guys for being able to flip your style. I like the old and I like the new, I feel bad though for all the people asking where the post hardcore is and saying they wont support this. You don't have to like the new stuff but.. it was kind of dumb of you to EXPECT a specific sound after the band lost one of the biggest pieces lmfao
This new album made fall in love with this band.
i loved it, super emotional and this is exactly how they want the music portrayed, this was beautiful
I know that some people will say this isn’t like their old stuff, and that they’re “alone like birds” and whatnot. But to me, experimentation and change shows personal and professional progression/development. It’s a great thing. They are pushing themselves to learn new things and in turn learn more about themselves in the process. Sticking with the same sound all the time would be selling out. EMBRACE the change. Personally, No Place is still my favorite album, but I sure as hell love this one too. I’m excited to see where they all go, on their separate ways.
"I found loneliness in a room that you were in" ;( well damn
Cryptic that is my favorite part ♥️
I know Cryptic I’m the guy playing the old guy in the vid. Deep stuff
not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can watch all of the latest movies on Instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my brother these days :)
@Carmelo Jackson Yup, have been using instaflixxer for years myself :)
@@carmelojackson1881 no I don’t give a damn and it’s so obvious both UA-cam accounts you commented are both SPAM accounts. Both were also created 3 weeks ago... for a simple job as scamming people you all do a sloppy job
I knew it was conor murphy as soon as I heard him singing god damn love foxing and so damn happy this happened
Thats actually Cory Lockwood and Matt Coate singing.
This song is so beautiful, the violin is incredibly complimentary. I can't wait to hear this album.
Like the greatest song ever made… 2021 and I’m appreciative of this. Thanks guys. 🙏🏼
Frankie Ray, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a performance that fit the song this well. Regardless of everyone’s attachments to the former style or their support for the new style, this music and your performance along with are amazing works of art. It’s complete
This music video has something really sad in an eerie manner... I love it
thank you Ankit Dadoch im the old man in both vids
Frankie Ray lovely act good sir... gave me the chills
Thank you Ankit gave me a few chills even though it was really hot them two days lol thanks so much for your compliments
Just saw them with Emarosa. Absolutely amazing. One of the best shows I've seen this year. These guys have some serious talent.
you know i love Kurt Travis and i was surprised tht he wasn't in A lot Like Birds anymore, but Cory and him sound very similar and just still sound so good. still a big fan
Cory needed this. damn.
I absolutely loved it Frankie Ray although it did put me in a sad vulnerable state of mind. I felt like I was actually right there. The Lyrics were great and you well you did an outstanding job as a old man. Loved your acting in this. You made my heart feel it, that's for sure. Amazing truly amazing. Awesome job hope to see you in many more.
This song is a damn masterpiece. I literally can't get enough of it.
I am so excited for this album. These singles put out are pure beauty. So much emotion conveyed in an amazing way. Yes, I will miss Kurt but there is nothing we can do but appreciate how phenomenal these guys continue to be.
Another beautiful, heartfelt song.
What a lovely song.
Yes! This is the song I was waiting so desperately for. This song makes the whole album worth. 💙
this song won me over for sure.
I thought I liked them before, this new sound since Kurt left is fitting and much more mature. They may have lost their progressive edge, but I can hear all the heart and emotion within every second. Thank you A Lot Like Birds, this is outstanding music.
Obsessed with this.
"I said I loved you as a way to change the subject. You said you loved me so you wouldn't have to prove it." I just got into a new relationship and the past couple days I've realized how much I've said it and used it as a crutch before. It's definitely not all negative but just for me personally, that's crazy.
the more i listen the more i love it. i love the emotion behind Their music
More a lot like birds please.
I miss music like this..
Am I the only one that feels this song for some reason just hits so much harder during Fall
Did someone saw the biggest booger in the world? Have a look at 2:48.
a snot bubble for the ages
did i give you a snot bubble?
Solo vine a buscar tu comentario xD
Another beautiful song...Can't wait to receive my bundle on the 5th.
I said I loved you as a way to change the subject
Fingers breaking as they cross
Damn I love this song so much
Beautiful.
I'm not sure what all the hate is about. I understand people wanting heavier music, but damn, chill. Bands change their music as they grow, and if you don't like it, just don't keep listening to it.
That's the plan.
I still like to come and hate on it, though. As a massive fan of the band, who has spent much moneyz on them, I feel I've earned the right to shit on them angrily whenever they put out garbage.
The Magical Boy you have that right in general, you can say whatever you want and I don't blame you for that. Everyone has an opinion, but not everyone has to know your opinion. But going back, I'm just saying that you should show them a little respect for trying new things, even if you don't personally like the direction they're going.
macabre chacon I think it would be better if you gave constructive criticism rather than just saying that it sucks. Yeah it's more simple to say that, but if allb saw your comment, don't you think it would be better for everyone to see a constructive comment? Like if they wanted to please people for example, saying this sucks isn't going to do anything. Wouldn't you say?
Anyone in 2020 still think this is the most beautiful song ever wrote?
I really enjoyed this song, the strings behind everything was beautiful.
This album is going to be fantastic.
this is beautiful
A Lot Like Balance & Composure
Shout out to Mountain Dew voltage for sponsoring this music video.
Love Cory's voice. Beautifully written song.
After several listens, it's come to sound a lot like birds. Reminds me of No Nurture
I miss the screams from their previous albums but I really like how the new songs are more emotional. I got goosebumps from this song. I love Cory's voice and the way his lyrics get to me. I don't mind them leaving the screams. This just my opinion tho.
this is beautiful. gave me chills
I understand the lack of screaming is disheartening to fans. but if you give the music a try and really listen to it, the lyrics are powerful, and that's the true beauty of this new direction because it compliments the lyrics, it's very intimate
What an incredible song
I like the connection to their last single.
Creating a consequtive video is really nice! :3
Thank you!
Amazing. Can't wait for their new LP, and though Connector was one heck of an emotional journey this one is going to be something very personal.
This song is so heavenly
What if I told you...you're allowed to like a band's new material, AND their old material?
Seriously guys, this is good shit. They made two bangers with Kurt that are still bangers. Kurt is now doing a million different things and that's cool for Kurt, and ALLB is doing this and this is also cool
I love how Cory's handling the cleans. I'll miss the Conversation Piece screams, but the dude can sing and thus far he's written some really fucking good hooks
David Wilson you mean..... i can like.. old stuff... AND new stuff?!?!?! whaaaaaat????
Thought I was the only one hahaha
I'd like their new stuff if it wasn't tryhard ballad after tryhard ballad.
Enjoy the whole album of ballads. I'm sure that sound won't get old immediately. It'll be a one and done album for almost everybody.
At least it's genuine. I'd rather they do this than pretend to be something they aren't. Two of my favorite Devin Townsend albums are the ones that don't sound like anything else he did (Ghost, Casualities of Cool) because they were genuine. Dance Gavin Dance didn't keep the same sound throughout their career, and even though they've moved in a poppier direction with Tilian, it still works really well. I love Happiness, it's totally unlike anything else in the DGD catalog, but Mothership is a fucking banger, and it's also the logical evolution from Instant Gratification. This is a good move for ALLB, trust.
i couldn't disagree more, but like with all music and art, it's all subjective. Personally i find it whiny and gutless, lacking any depth whatsoever. The album is a total fail imo. i'm sure some disagree and some will agree, but i'm entitled to my own perspective and opinion as we all are.
I can't believe What I'm reading in some of these comments !! The vocal melodies and feelings from this song is amazing !!! Fucking masterpiece
As a long time fan, I personally feel like this is pretty much the best ALLB song I've ever heard.
huge fan of original a lot like birds but this is still incredible. Beautiful song, love it
Anyone else notice at 2:46 or well just after...the old guy sniffles and you can see a big ol snot glob come out his nose and go back up.
your new albums so much better than i thought it'd be.
can't believe u guys went ahead and did like a sequel video this is amazing I can relate to it a lot while also seeing how clearly it relates to the band.
beautiful beutiful beutiful singin and melodies and even acting yes by the band too! yall niggas rock
Your music is great, thanks for what you have done.
I've been a huge fan from the start. I support this wildly. the vocal thing is not a problem for me. I think they kill it story telling wise and I relate to every release so far. I've met them in iowa and after hearing their new material I just wanna give them the most support. everyone has their story but these guys get it and they give a shit.
why is this video making me cry
This one and "For Shelley" grew on me. I love it now.
This album was amazing. A flash in the pan of a new ALLB
This is great ya'll.
for me this song is up there with what didn't kill me just got stronger and connector
Phenomenal & Gorgeous
Their videos make zero sense but the music is so heavenly
this is just too good.
I like this so very much. this is like the 3rd song I've heard by them. but I'm really digging this.
Is the vocalist in the very beginning Conor Murphy from Foxing???
I love A Lot Like Birds. I truly do. It breaks my heart to not enjoy their new work as much as their past 3 records. I was not sold on the first single, I loved The Sound of Us, and am torn on this one. I still pre-ordered after the first song, and I'm still gonna give it a chance. Knowing that this band is the same that wrote both my favorite song of all time and my favorite album of all time, it's hard to not expect the best.
What's your favorite songs of all time?
Yes!!! I've been waiting for this track since they announced the teaser. Freaking love the three tracks they've released so far!
81,775 views....and i'm an easy 1,000 myself. Love the song, love the album.
Huge fan of both Foxing and ALLB, and honestly this is good, although I do wish they'd mash their old sound with this. Coming from someone who's tried writing and recording an album, choosing a sound is much more difficult than I originally thought. Major respect to both bands for releasing music they enjoy.
I thought i wasn't going to enjoy the new ALLB too much from hearing the other song since its sound didn't really suit my taste but after hearing this song i doubted and judged too soon! This song is really good especially with the song starting soft just to build up to the hype of the powerful singing halfway in. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album now!
I vibe for you guys, good job on your new music.
absolutely beautiful
I never heard the old stuff when it was current stuff, but i dig this alot.
Love A Lot Like Birds! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I feel like this guy is me when I drinking and obsessively listening to this song 😅
OH MY GOD
Awesome job, I love it. Can't wait for more!
this new ALLB is better than Before
the song is something of its own kind, but we all already know that. I feel this music video wouldn't half as good if it were not for the acting which not only provides some degree of context around the lyric's meaning, but also is emotional, expressive and packed with explosives. kudos to that old dood :)
Fuck, I miss her

This song just made me really emotional. What music should do, I used to love alt/emo music in high school and this gives me a lot of nostalgia for that sound but it also feels really new and amazing.
Aye the song from the vocal tracking video 👌
