    What this proves is manga writers in Japan shouldn't be forced to release a chapter every week. Or given ridiculous deadlines because of the anime. They should be allowed to work and let the quality be good. American comics they usually have a month, and the difference is night and day.

      To be fair, Vagabond was weekly for a long time, and the artwork there surpasses many comics, even if there is a lack of color (which i personally prefer, black and white is more appealing to me). But then again, Takehiko Inoue is kind of a genious lol

      You're right! I hadn't noticed! There must be some apps to download that has seconds, I guess, but the one that comes with the iPad/iPhone doesn't have seconds for the timer. It could still be used for the first two challenges but not the last one unfortunately (and probably the one you need it most! ;-).

    Where did you get that people like real time videos? From my experience, and requests, people skip real time videos cause people don't have the patience to sit there and watch the whole thing, that's why they prefere time lapse videos. I don't know, maybe your subs don't, i might be wrong. Let me know what you think.

    • @markcrilley
      @markcrilley  8 років тому +16

      I get complaints from people who say they want no time lapse, but I the reality is many of my videos without time lapse would end up being 2 to 3 hours long. I find that the combination "real time + some time lapse" videos are the best way of keeping everyone happy. :)

    • @jollyarts
      @jollyarts 8 років тому +1

      That is true, i mean most of the time you can't do without time lapse. But have you ever gotton any complains that your videos are just too long? I use to get that, i don't know if you do

    • @sflematti
      @sflematti 8 років тому +12

      I don't mind either way, but a good amount of the people that prefer him to draw in real time like it better because they're actually drawing along with him. He uploads a time lapse version of 90% of his videos anyway. I enjoy the mix of time lapse and real time because I've grown to like mark as a person and hearing him discuss his personal techniques, but at the same time I don't have 2 hours to spare for a video so it's the best of both worlds.

    this is such an inspiring video to watch as a novice artist! to look at the right and see something that I could draw without issue. then to look at the middle and see what steps I'd have to take to get better and then the finishing touches on the left. it's just amazing to see scribbles be made into something that looks like it's worth something!
    I would love to see this challenge be done the other way, 10 seconds - 1 minute - 10 minutes. also with a human character. not chibi either!

    Hi, Mark. This was a great video. Brought smile on my face, especially the 10 seconds drawing. It reminds me of the fun I had while doing some super quick sketches of my mother last summer and she was like "why do I always look like a truck driver on your drawings!"
    Anyway, I would love to watch more videos like this. And I might try to make some too :-D

    I love this challenge! it exercises the artist's knowledge of what makes a character. to do it in one minute or 10 sec. you really need to know what the most important features of a character is. So it is sort of like studying for 10 min. shrinking down the details in 1 min. and getting the most essentials in the 10 sec.

      In my mind, it's just to reduce pressure. It's easier to approach a deadline when time is moving forward to it and doesn't attack the mind as much. But when it's counting down to it the pressure suddenly rises and quality and focus immediately go out the drain for just pure work.
      On the other hand Mark might've just not wanted to bother with the timer.

    • @skaterdudeprodutions
      @skaterdudeprodutions 8 років тому +1

      I'm assuming the camera's facing straight down, mounted slightly above him so it's not in his way, and zoomed in so you don't see him and the surrounding area...

    • @TeegMonkey
      @TeegMonkey 8 років тому

      Moot Maybe.. But he must have an extremely tall tripod for the camera, the then what if he bumps it? and you'd think the quality of the video would be grainy if it was zoomed in :/

      +Teeg Monkey Actually, the camara is right in front of him, then when he goes back to edit the video, he just flips the images right side up. I wondered that myself as well, but someone in the comments clarrified that for me. Hope I did too! 😊
