I got to speak with Ben and we discussed this song. I told him I have anxiety and depression and I sing this song TO my anxiety and depression every day. He struggled and still struggles with depression and recovery with alcoholism. He told me this, “People like you and I, every day is a battle. We won’t win every battle, but we WILL win the war.”
I have his lyrics tattooed on my arm and he then signed my wrist, which I had tattooed on as well. The depression and anxiety we battle does take the breath right out of us, but we will be the death of the illness. We will win. He’s a wonderful man. After meeting and talking with him, he took my son up on stage. Absolutely amazing man and amazing band!

The Hound I have some of those lyrics on my arm because it’s how I felt after my Grandma died. “God help me I’ve come undone, out of the light of the sun.” My Grandma’s name is hidden in the tattoo. When I showed it to Ben he signed my wrist and I had that tattooed on as well. Wonderful song!

My absolute favorite BB song. Ben is a very powerful writer and singer.
Wow, you have a lot of insight. Ben actually usually sings about his alcohol addiction and fear of a lot of things. Most people would just interpret this as a relationship with a girl.
But more than just what he thinks. It can apply to everyone regardless of what it is...its a demon and ur finally winning over whatever struggle it is relationship, alcohol, anxieth...whatever , its a universal message!!
Any person who has every overcome a struggle ......it applies. Pure genius songwriting!!! Amazing as always ....they dont have music u cant listen too...never have and never will!!

I’ve listened to this song thousand times but you made me realize the true meaning of the lyrics in the bridge at the end. This is what I love about such thorough and intelligent reaction videos - you get a new perspective!
I've always interpreted this song from the point of view of a lover who wants to give up but can't in a dying relationship. He/she can't seem to ignite any passion in the relationship anymore but they won't give up. They're in love and will do anything to find "the fire in your eyes". "You take the breath right out of me" tells me he's/she's still in love and will ride the ship till it sinks. At leats that's how I feel when I hear it.

Breaking Benjamin is my favorite band and Breath is one of my favorite songs of theirs. It’s a very deep song and I’m glad ppl that are into other musical genres can appreciate their music. I won’t list all of the songs I think are great cuz there are a lot lol, but some of my favs are Evil Angel, Diary of Jane, I Will Not Bow, Until The End, and So Cold just to name a few.

Polyamorous will ALWAYS be my favorite track as it was their first song that I heard it late at night when MTV played actual videos after injectiong Oxycontin! Its about numerous(poly) addiction(amorous means to stick) but Ben is genuinely and uber talented!! Oh and song is about him being clean and turning down what bout killed him and realized the long term results didn't warrant the short term relief from anxiety and depression!!! Great breakdown!!
