I had a chance to meet Ben and we were able to talk. I thanked him for songs that helped me through depression and something just clicked. We talked for over 20 minutes about depression and fighting ourselves. He is a great guy after talking with him he said, “People like you and I don’t suffer depression. We battle it. We won’t win every battle but we will win the war.” Their songs are dark, and that makes me delve deeper into myself and I realize no matter how dark the song, there is always a shred of hope.
Breaking Benjamin is, in the most weird comparison ever, the vanilla ice cream of metal/hard rock. Now, before you come at me with pitch forks and torches, hear me out. They're comforting. You can go a while without hearing them but as soon as his voice hits... you're home. You know what to expect, and it's just as good as you remember. Sure, there are other flavors that are nice, but vanilla does what it does to a perfection. It's so welcoming.
I was gonna be pissed before I realized you didn't compare them to Vanilla Ice 😂 But, you're completely right. Vanilla ice cream is delicious, comforting, and classic. Same as Breaking Benjamin.
@@kingexclusivo While I agree with your opinion, "alternative metal" is a thing and is often attributed to Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Shinedown, and a whole host of other bands, and could be the reason Joshua mentioned metal here. Of course, at the end of the day, we know what we like and sub-genres just help us find similar bands. 😄
"Evil Angel", while not my favorite song on Phobia, is basically the other side of the coin to this. It's before he got sober, talking about his relationship with alcohol. A lot of songs on Phobia seem to be him dealing with his addiction. It's a dark, painful, gorgeous album.
Yea that'd what I felt as well, this song is about Benjamin's symbolic suicide. A death of his previous self brought on by his vices that he would rise from.
Yeah me too. It’s gonna sound cliché but Dear Agony helped me get through highschool, so this album is close to my heart and soul and will always stand as my favorite album of all time.
@PapaBigBalls 86 Indeed! And they are all still amazing! While I admit I'm not certain that I've heard all the songs on One-X, I loved the four singles back in the day ("Animal", "Pain", "Never Too Late", "Riot") as well as "Time of Dying" and the title track. "One-X" may be the most encouraging and empowering song I've ever heard from Three Days Grace.
Alex’s reaction is beautiful and genuine. I’ve loved this song since it first came out, but I never knew the full meaning behind the lyrics. The moment Alex stopped head bobbing and focused on the lyrics gave me goosebumps. It hits hard.
I love what they did with Aurora; Flyleaf, Underoath, Red, Three Days Grace and Cold are all bands that I enjoy, so it was really cool hearing all these great singers of the 2000's chiming in on this release.
I singed this song in 2012 when my mom was in her last days(she died from cancer) at a highschool concert. I dedicated this song to her and also the song Unknown soldier. She will always remain in my heart as a soldier that fought for her family. Love you mom
This hits hard on my end, my dad is an alcoholic and he's the type to use words to cut people down when drunk. I have dealt with a lot of depression through my life because of it. I have had... Those thoughts... But I pushed through. No matter what you are going, for whoever is reading this, you can make it. I believe you can. If I am able to push through the negative thoughts and feeling like I'm literally a waste of space, I know you can too. I am lucky to have friends that are there for me, despite being online. Don't throw everything away, pain is only temporary, we just don't know how long it will last. Look to your friends, talk to them, let them know where you're at. Sometimes having that one person that knows can be enough for a new path to open, a path with less pain.
"Dark of You" and "Far Away" are some of my favs from Breaking Benjamin right now, which is tough to choose, there are ALLOT of great and good songs through out the library.
@@117NateDog The reason Ben invited her is bc he know she's been through some shit, she is singing her heart out as he is doing it too, they invited her for a reason, and the song sky rocketed in rock charts so, yeah, the popular opinion is the song is way better in their Aurora version with Lacey Sturm
I really wish the reactors reacted more to Breaking Benjamin, they are such a great band with no bad songs. I have some suggestions: Save Yourself, Unknown Soldier, Sooner Or Later, You Fight Me, You, Skin, Into The Nothing, Failure, Forever, The Dark Of You. I could say many more lol.
I never really thought that the line "I feel nothing anymore" was about suicide, but about that emotionless state you get in when you're Deep into an addiction and nothing matters and the addiction doesnt bring the same feelings that got you addicted. Its usually just before you find rock bottom... or a suicide attempt
Alex, you should check out Breaking Benjamin’s “We Are Not Alone” album. You already reacted to “So Cold” (the first track on this album) so you should check out the next song, called “simple design.” It’s a masterpiece let me tell ya.
Like most breaking benjamin songs, you can apply most situations to, not just the original meaning. Like this one can mean for mental health, lonelyness, heartbreak, etc. Also it's great to do on voxtar in clone hero as well, can really belt it out there, get that emotion out. As for the next breaking benjamin song, maybe Blow me away, but mainly because it's from halo 2 and the song that first got me into the band in the first place.
I have to say, even though my reasons don't come from the same background as yours, at 28 I've never been drunk either nor do I ever want to. I respect your belief and I'm glad momma Hef is in a better place. I truly believe that your relationship with her is the reason we have such an awesome, kind, warm individual that we see on UA-cam everyday. Bless both of you. You're both amazing.
This is one of the songs I have in a playlist just for depression. When things get really bad, and I think about ending it all, a lot of times listening to that playlist will help me. I'll feel a connection to the songs and they will force my emotions out, making me cry. I usually will feel a little better after getting it out.
More power to you man. Also, you dont have to if you dont want to, but would you mind sharing the playlist? Maybe id discover some songs that i havent heard, and they'll help me as well.
I’d give anything to feel nothing anymore. I don’t have any addictions but I have numerous health problems that have me in constant pain. As a husband and father, my priorities are elsewhere atm. I want my wife to be in a good place financially with plenty of support before I’m gone. I want my daughter to be strong mentally and independent as an adult (she’s 17 now). I really don’t know how much longer I have cuz my health can deteriorate at any time, especially since Covid is still a thing. Edit: I grew up with a mom that struggled with alcohol addiction and she died 4 years ago from a Vicodin overdose. My health started to deteriorate on my way home from her funeral. Now I have to rely on multiple pain meds just to make each day at least a little tolerable. I’d also give anything just to walk and be able to use my right arm and hand again for even the most simplest of tasks like opening a packet of dipping sauce, holding a burger with both hands, etc.
This song has destroyed me and put me back together every single time I've listened to it, his emotion is so raw and so beautiful that it just hits so much harder than any song I've heard by them. I really like the Aurora version, I think it really adds something, but the original is flawless in and of itself.
This song touches me deeply! My son was a long time Breaking Benjamin fan and this was the song he used to describe to me how he was feeling when his cancer was taking the last days of his 19 year life.
One of my favorite Breaking Benjamin songs is “Breath” from the Phobia album. You should also listen to “Dear Agony - Aurora Version” which is Benjamin and Lacey Sturm who is the lead singer of Flyleaf. Flyleaf is also another awesome band you should check out if you haven’t already!! I don’t know if you’d wanna react to the same song twice on the channel, but even just in your free time, definitely worth checking out the Aurora version! Keep up the amazing reactions! Your reactions make my day so much better 🥰
While darkly ironic, this album helped me get through a lot and pull through some stuff. You can and will be better. It just takes some bravery. Much love to all of you.
One of my all-time favorite Breaking Benjamin songs. It's great that such an old album is still getting talked about. A darker time where Ben was struggling with alcoholism. I'm so glad that the man has grown over the years and is doing so much better now than he was back then
OMG, finally... I was waitting for this moment for so long... I really love Breaking Benjamin. I found them in a really dark moment in my life, and they helped me from that momento to the current day. I mean... I saw the video, clicked, watched and cried. Thank for your reaction Alex, take care!
Heard the song for the first time while I watched this video. Great song, great reaction by Alex and when Alex told us to keep smiling, I just wiped away a tear.
I have a feeling this is how my mom felt during her last days!! Its been since Apr 2020....and wish she was still with us!!! No longer in agony though!
There is a video of a live concert where Ben asked a fan what her favorite song was. She said Dear Agony because of the passing of her son. Even though it wasn't part of that night's set, right then and there in the crowd he started singing it for her. Super powerful, would love to see you react to that, but at the very least you should at least experience it in your own time!
Love you! Love BB! Love Lacey! I love Dear Agony it's one of my favorite albums of all time. Without You is my favorite song off of it. I waited so long for this remake it made me cry like a baby when I first listened to this song! It's so beautiful. 💕
Being a recovering alcoholic this song really hits close to home.....My heart goes out to anyone struggling with alcoholism or any kind of addiction....Take strength in family and music and never quit fighting.
Thank You for doing another BB! Ive been waiting as i know you have really liked their others! There so many good ones, and as so many have said you just have to do each album!!
This song and many other songs in their repertoire helped me get through my mom passing away. Awesome reaction! 🔥🤘🏼 I get tears listening to their music.
Hi Alex This reaction is pure genuine. It reminds me my reaction to this song (but trust me, the whole album is beautiful) the first time i listened it. This Song hits you right inside. You can feel the pain and the sorrow of Ben for all he has been trough. If i can Suggest you a song of Breaking Beniamin you MUST listen and react, It would be' absolutely UNTIL THE END (my favorite song of Breaking Benjamin) from the album PHOBIA. This is such underrated but it's a masterpiece. Thanks for the attention and best regards from Italy!
It seems pretty generic with the rhythm and such, but you can tell this is a very personal song. Even though it's not up there in intensity or even creativity, it is in emotions (where it counts).
What's creative about Breaking Benjamin is that most of their songs are in Drop Bb, lower than technical death metal and grindcore bands for example, yet extremely accessible for radio, films, and video games. Ben is one of the most known baritone guitarists in modern rock.
I saw Lacey Sturm on teaser for the video but it's the original version. Yes, a great song, but I think the latest with Stacey is much better and not sure if we can beg for another reaction video for the latest version? Also, why is Lacey on the teaser?
The latest with Lacey is less symbolically impactful, so it's a good thing he heard the original first to appreciate that one more. The thumbnail has gotta be a slip-up. Maybe he Googled Dear Agony pictures and the music video was the first thing to come up. Seems likely.
This song has helped me through so much, Breaking Benjamin has been a staple in my life for years. Since i was a teen back in 2010. Thank you for covering this song
Alex you absolutely have to see these boys in concert when they hit the road again. I've seen them 5 times, once with Korn, once with Avenged, once with Death Punch, once with Shinedown, and once with Three Days Grace. Amazing show every single time. doesn't get old. Bucket List band for sure
One of my favorite things about this album and a lot of bens songs is that he just fuckin sends it full emotion in the music and either joins in hard or brings it back to soft only to erupt with his powerful and melancholic/hopeful voice.
Very happy you heard them, I pop on Breaking Benjamin whenever I’m going through a low point and they always help me get through. And thank you for sharing your story about your family, sorry you went through any of that ♥️
I remember seeing them live when this album came out. This song hits home for me recently I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer and I've been getting back into breaking benjamin especially this album. Alex I love your videos keep it up!
Love this man. This is what music can do. Your whole mood changed half way through. Went from head banging to being completely still. I love this song. I haven't heard it in a while but it always hits hard. Love the story you shared about your mom, my family is very, VERY similar. Keep it up man. Love the channel.
This song feels like my father singing to my sister, brothers, and me. My father nearing the end of his life was in constant pain from defeating cancer years before. He suffered from PTSD from the Vietnam war and only near the end of his life was finally getting his help for dealing with it. He always said how he just wanted the pain to end. At the end of his life be passed from Dehydration and starvation. How this happened is he had dementia, and it was never caught till it was way too late. So as my father laid in hospice, he slowly forgot everything, including how to eat and drink. This song hits me hard because I am a combat vet so crying for the dead is hard for me, but every time I hear this song it helps me grieve for the loss of my father.
I had a chance to meet Ben and we were able to talk. I thanked him for songs that helped me through depression and something just clicked. We talked for over 20 minutes about depression and fighting ourselves. He is a great guy after talking with him he said, “People like you and I don’t suffer depression. We battle it. I love them so much. Just one of those bands you can listen to and expect everything you're getting, but it's good.
This song and many other songs in their repertoire helped me get through my mom passing away. Awesome reaction! 🔥🤘🏼 I get tears listening to their music.
You should listen to 3DG Break or Last To Know
Last to know he should definitely react to! The song is so sad!
@@teagandiedrich4202 it's not sad it's great
Last to know is so good
Lost in You
@Prozakhistan YES!
It would mean the world to me if you reacted to Anthem of the Angels by Breaking Benjamin.
Wonderful reaction, thank you for sharing your experiences, thoughts and feelings with us.
Hi Alex
This reaction is pure genuine.
There is a version of this song with Lacey Sturm from flyleaf singing with him awesome
You think this is sad check out Without You, that song has me in tears most of the time.
I’m just finding you and rewatching all your reactions. I can tell you’re a good dude! I like your reactions as well! Keep up the good work bro!
Easily my favourite song of all time. I don’t think that will ever change with how much this song and lyrics hit you.
Alex, Alex, Alex, you are so missing out on the Lzzy Hale with Amy lee - Break In duet. What a shame!
IKR?!
"Blow Me Away" from the Halo 2 soundtrack! It's fantastic!
Thank you so much for this reaction. I love this song starting with my childhood 🥺 but just now I understand what it means
Another song that's along this line is "Fear" by Any Given Day.
1st time I’ve heard this, thank you Alex but I listened to it with tears in my eyes. What a song.
And thank you for sharing your story about your family, sorry you went through any of that ♥️
No matter how many times I hear this song, I get chill bumps every time! Love your reaction videos 💜🖤
I remember seeing them live when this album came out. This song hits home for me recently I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer and I've been getting back into breaking benjamin especially this album. Alex I love your videos keep it up!
Any time I see a reaction to Dear Agony, I have to click it. Easily one of the greatest songs ever made.
Love this man. This is what music can do. Your whole mood changed half way through. Went from head banging to being completely still. I love this song. I haven't heard it in a while but it always hits hard. Love the story you shared about your mom, my family is very, VERY similar. Keep it up man. Love the channel.
Great reaction bro. Definitely one of my favorite songs of all time.
I'm so glad you did this song. This band, and Ben's words saved my life.
I havnt even watched it yet and im already so so so happy your doing breaking ben!
Amazing song the whole album is amazing one of favourite bands thanks for reacting alex
This song well whole album is just one of my go to when I have one of my severe depression episodes glad you uploaded this dude!
Do this whole album. So happy you did this song.
Everytime I see someone mention Breaking Benjamin I tear up a little. They are my favorite band since childhood. ❤❤
