The stamping of a makers mark gives so much more added value to a bespoke item, it also shows that the maker is proud enough of his produce to put his name on it, I also think that many years down the road, someone will pick up an item and wonder just what its history is, old tools of carpenters are usually stamped with wonderfully scripted stamps, probably for no other reason than to prove ownership, but it does give that item a great deal more of a link with the past, todays more austere script stamps I suppose will be a sign of the desperate times we live in today, signs and clues handed down to future generations. Stay safe! Chris B.

I love the belt my in-laws bought for me from your collection. Very proud to own it ...two years on and beautiful. Glad to see you are keeping well and totally agree on marking.

I do agree with your reasoning and purpose of having a makers mark.
However... All too often, makers marks are too big, too busy, and gaudy looking. Couple that with poor placement on their work and you now have a diminished item. This is a very common trend with knife makers right now in the US.
I know of a local holster maker that does fine leather work, but his makers mark is so big, gaudy, and poorly placed that he's losing sales.
    Thanks for the video...

Do you need to wet the veg tan leather before stamping? Thanks Harry. Keep up the good videos.

Hi Evelyn, no it's not essential but you get a deeper impression if you do. Belts are thick, so I don't with those, but I do wet wallets on the reverse side as they are thin, and then it looks very crisp.

Getting a makers mark was one of my first actions after I started doing leather craft.

Tony B recently started leather craft myself, finishing a project of a helmet at the moment, and I been for thinking a little while now that I want to get a makers mark.
