  • On our trip through Brittany in France we explore the Cairn de Barnenez and the picturesque town of Roscoff. Located in the Finistère department, the Barnenez cairn is the largest megalithic mausoleum in Europe. Two sorts of vaults are used in the tombs, flat stones in traditional dolmens and ‘false’ rounded domes made from a clever arrangement of small flat stones. The cairn was built in the Neolithic period (4500 to 3500 BC) when farming communities first emerged.
Roscoff is renowned for its picturesque architectur and carries the label "petite cité de caractère" de Bretagne (small town of character). Roscoff is also a traditional departure point for Onion Johnnies which is the reason for these vegetables being displayed on walls throughout the city.
