Matilda visits Guérande, the home of fleur de sel

  • Our trip through Britanny with Heidi, Leander and Matilda alongside my wife and parents is coming to a end, but not before visiting the beautiful mediaeval town of Guérande. The fortified wall of #Guérande is one of the best preserved and complete in #France and its circumference stretches 1434 meters. We stayed overnight nearby in La Baule, a seaside resort that is also part of the Guérande Peninsula. This area is sandwiches between two contrasting landscapes, the "Pays Blanc" (White Land) because of its salt marshes, and the "Pays Noir" (Black Land) with the peat bog of Brière. The town's salt marshes called have made Guérande a renowned producer of fleur de sel and salt related products are on sale throughout the city.
