Tiger tongue is a plant proven by Nasa to have the effect of purifying the air, absorbing 107 types of toxic gases and providing a clean space: can absorb formaldehyde 0.938 grams / h. In particular, it can absorb carcinogenic toxins such as formaldehyde and nitrogen oxide.
Normally, with a room with an area of about 75m2, just 1 4-leaf tiger tongue tree can keep the air fresh. Therefore, tiger tongue is often planted a lot in airports, public areas as well as in offices, even in the living room of your house.
With a sturdy, healthy appearance and elegant colors, the tiger tongue tree has a high effect on decoration and bonsai. You can put a small pot of tiger tongue on the desk, put many porcelain pots close together to make a fence in front of the house, in the corner of the corridor, the front hall, the entrance or in front of the elevator.
In addition, tiger tongue is also a valuable remedy for cough, hoarseness, sore throat, purulent ear infections...
How to plant and care
To grow the cycad, you can either separate an old bush into a porcelain pot or plant the leaves into the prepared soil in spring to late summer.
With leaf cutting, you need to choose young, strong leaves with beautiful, bright yellow edges and then cut them close to the base into pieces about 5cm long. You bury this piece of leaf in the soil, sand, peat already mixed. Pay attention not to sow too deep, only about 1/2 of the depth of the soil is enough. You put the pot in a sunny place and limit watering.
The tiger tongue tree is one of the easiest ornamental plants to care for because it is very drought tolerant, can live in low light and narrow spaces. However, if you pay attention to the water, light, and fertilizer conditions, the plants will grow better, faster and greener.
Light: Tiger tongue is tolerant of direct sunlight but the best space to place it in the house, room, with shade.
Soil: You need to prepare good soil or pre-mixed sandy soil with fertilizer, humus, and high alkalinity.
Temperature: The tree grows well at a temperature of 18 - 30 degrees Celsius. The tree will die if the temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius, so it is not suitable for growing outdoors in the winter in the North.
Humidity: The plant tolerates medium humidity, if it is too high, the tree will have root rot. Therefore, you need to limit watering tiger tongue. In the summer, you can water once a week. In winter, you water once a month.
Fertilizer: In order for the plant to grow faster and better, you need to meet the average fertilizer demand, about 3 months/time. In winter, you should limit fertilizing because at that time the plant is very poorly absorbed.
There are a number of diseases of the tiger tongue tree that can be "catched" through the eyes such as: Leaves have brown spots, root rot is because you have watered too much. Leaves turn black, soft, because the temperature is too low. The leaves are pale in color and do not have many spots due to being placed in a place with little light.
