This depends on what "determining" your emotions means. I don't think all emotional responses are consented by our free will. We don't control all our external circumstances and subsequent emotions that can arise automatically in the amygdala, triggered by them. However, we can be mindful of how we feel, we can determine and redirect our thoughts. We determine the thoughts about the emotion we experienced and have the capacity to judge where we go from there.
I'm a very emotional person and my therapist always told me that because I know my emotions and myself so we'll, I should NEVER feel like I'm not in control. I just have to step outside of my emotions and remember I'm in control. It's still hard for me I must admit.
I understand! You are not alone! Idk if it would help you, but you may want to look up empaths or Highly Sensitive People (HSP) my doctor telling me this changed my life. Worth a shot! Much love, confidence, comfort and peace! One*
I’m a therapist and I find more and more that I’m bringing things I’m picking up from your episodes. So thank you!! Simple things I tell my clients about emotions and thoughts such as all feelings are okay, thoughts aren’t fact, and the importance of creating space from our thoughts and emotions so we feel in the drivers seat seem to impact my clients powerfully and result in meaningful shifts for them. It’s such a joy to see.
For how incredibly powerful this video is I'm just SHOCKED that there's only 26 comments. This is such powerful advice and I'm certain that if applied would make so many people's lives better. I love this video.
Great episode! To me, labeling emotions has all to to with Mindfulness, which has already been discussed in another great episode. Thank you so much, guys.
I have no emotional clutter to go with my physical clutter... Not 😂😂😂. Not helped by my ADHD (which amplifies 'overwhelm', and disorganisational skills), meds making a positive difference. Still don't have and emotional clutter (wink wink).
Did she really talk more than 15 minutes straight? It was tiring to keep listening this time. There should be more interaction between the three of you.
True or false? No one has the power to determine your emotions.
True
I know it's true. But my emotions says false, so I have to remind my emotions to get it together😇

I think it depends. Mainly it's one self. But environment does play a huge part. Much gratitude, love and peace! One*

Expectations lead to resentment. Much gratitude, peace and love all! ❤️
Or expectations are premeditated resentments. So true
Lovely episode, thank you. I've had the book for years and read parts of it, very eye--opening!
