First off awesome video very informative. I replaced the carburetor on my Kawaskai Bayou 220 but I'm not getting any fuel flowing into it. I'm stuck on what to do if someone could please help me troubleshoot that would be great. Thanks
You need to check the fuel valve on your fuel tank to see if its clogged. some valves you can rebuild some you cant. but if you pull the fuel supply line off the carburetor and the fuel valve turned on and no fuel flows then that is the issue.
Couple things I've run into recently trying to fix the unfixable 2007 YZ450f lean bog/popping/hard starting..... - 1, make sure valve clearance is within spec. -2, someone had replaced the accelerator pump linkage with some shiny piece, long story short it was not the oem black plastic piece you do the "oring mod" to, so it was too short, accelerator pump did not work. Ordered a new kit, put it on, works fine ever since. Also, wont run without choke, check pilot jet/passage. fuel leak at the inlet, fuel inlet o-rings
Hello Steve, amazing video and great detail. I have 1 question for you though. Have you heard about rejetting pilot jets to be richer for bikes that operate 7000' and above before? Apparently the idea is that natural loss of vacuum on an engine due to high elevations can cause harder starting conditions. A richer pilot jet to help compensate for the lack of vacuum to help aid in a richer condition and adjusting the main jet accordingly to elevation.
You are correct and incorrect. Yes you loose air volume as you get higher in elevation which will both cause a richer condition, but the lose of air volume will effect it. The very reason that the pilot screw/fuel screw/air mixture screw or whatever you want to call it is there for adjustment along with the idle screw. Barometric pressure, and humidity also effect it causing a lean or rich condition. If you were to look at it on a chart, the lower elevation you the changes in jet size are less dramatic in running conditions than it would be at higher elevation because of less air. You can over rich or lean one circuit and try to compensate for the lack of correct adjustment of another circuit to a certain degree. But its not accurate and your engine will never run the best it can without adjusting everything properly.
you got it backwards. higher elevation is less air. so less fuel at higher elevation. see? for what it's worth i've seen the tendency for some folks to think that at higher altitude you need to add fuel and i can't understand why some people think this.
18:27 on the top side of this carburetor, there is a plastic tube where you can put a hose on to. But i couldnt find anything on the internet about it. Could you explain to me where this one is for. I thougt that it is connected to the airfilter box. But what to do with those if there isnt a filterbox anymore? If i close them the motor stops running. But if i open them all up it does nt run properly. Hope you can help me out🙏
I have a 4 stroke atv 2000 Kodiak with an aftermarket carburetor when I go full throttle the the engine stutters. Will that be the wrong jet size? Thank you
Could be. Sounds like the main jet might be too big. You can verify by trying to rev with the choke on, stays the same or worse=smaller main, better=bigger main. Then with choke off and air box lid off, rev it again, better=smaller main, worse=bigger main. This is assuming you've checked all the basics (fresh fuel, clean air filter etc.). For reference, our QA Parts carbs that fit your ATV come with a 120 main and a 45 pilot. If you can't get the carb you have ironed out, I'd try the QA Parts carb and be done with it. -Charles

A lot of info! I'm wondering how to adjust the throttle return spring on 1992 big bear 350? It has been sitting for a few years and the return spring is very tight.
Liked your video. I have a KTM 450 EXC, with a Keihin FCR-MX carb and the bike won't start with the E-start until it's warmed up a bit and then I usually need to give It just the tiniest bit of throttle. When cold, it starts easily with the kick start, but again, it needs a tiny bit of throttle. Once warm, the bike seems to run correctly and be responsive. I've also had the carb apart a couple of times and can't find anything that looks wrong (everything looks clean, including the pilot jet). I got the Tusk fuel screw and did some adjusting of the fuel mix and idle but it didn't fix my starting issue. It would be great if I could get a couple ideas on what to try next.
stvnmoto, your suggestion was exactly correct. I happened to adjust the valves a couple of weeks ago just hoping it would help and I noticed that one of the intake valves had no clearance. After putting everything back together it started easily with the e-start and no throttle. My subsequent rides were great. Thanks!
Hi; I have a Vulcan 500cc 1994 with twin carbs, I have a problem of overflown petrol,I had changed the needle valves and cleaned afew time,it worked but in a few months came back leaking baddly. I have a question, why does my dirt bike keep fouling plugs? When I pull the plug, it looks all black and its fuel soaked after just a few minutes of riding.
You mentioned the pilot jet and pilot jet screw working together but you did talk about the pilot jet at all. Can you do a video about adjusting the pilot jet with rich idle conditions
If you are running too rich and have already maxed out your adjustment screw, you need to get a smaller pilot jet to reduce fuel flow even more. Vise versa. If you have already backed your adjustemt screw all the way off, and are still running lean, then you need to get a bigger pilot jet to let more fuel in.
I just rebuilt the carburetor on my atv and it was running super rich. Black spark plug, wouldn't run well after it warmed up, and would bog at full throttle. I had to fully close my pilot adjustment screw. Luckily mine works when fully screwed in so I don't have to replace the pilot jet.
While I appreciate this video I wish you would do a video on each carburettor. I just want to focus on the one that applies to my rm250 dirt bike. The specific parts of the carburettor that would be on my bike
Check the Hot Start lever adjustment. But for the most part your bike needs to be tuned to you elevation and riding conditions by a good mechanic. The other issue that might be going on is your intake valve clearance adjustment is tight causing the intake valves to not seal correctly causing compression to push back into the carburetor that will not allow the fuel and air to be sucking into the combustion chamber for internal combustion to happen.
I recently started working for an old guy i thought he knew what he was doing. It bogs down anywhere above 1/4 throttle he keeps having me drill the pilot jet bigger. If I uncork my ttr125le 2019 pull out my air vent and drill two one inch holes do I have to replace pilot from stock 15 to 17.5 pilot. Still stock pipe untouched.
I'm not sure you can call that uncorked. If you are wanting more air flow you can do that and yes you most likely need to go a bigger size in pilot jet. First I would adjust for elevation in your jetting, that might make all the difference in running conditions that you are originally seeking for.
I have two different atvs both only run with the full choke on , and run very fast , remove choke and the engine dies , I have replaced carbs and still same issues any ideas thanks
Somebody please help me. I had to change the carb on a 2019 Chinese Apollo 250 with a nearly identical unit. It idles fine, but it backfires and cuts out when accelerating. The plug shows that it's running lean. I'm thinking of putting a better carb, Mikuni, in there but it's so hard to get in and out I want to make sure it's properly jetted. I'm at 4500' Will the Mikuni also need to have a bigger main jet and a raised needle?
as far as I know, it is used when you start the bike. at that point you need only fuel to get through and so you "close" the air stream. after the engine has started, you let again the air mixed with the fuel. I hope I'm getting that right...:)

Was wondering if you can help me with my carburetor problem. Have a 98 yamaha big bear 350 4x4. Someone totally demolished the carb. All jets, pilot screws were cross threaded and ruined the carb. I got a new one, cleaned it from top to bottom and the only way it will idle is with the mixture screw all the way out to where it's almost falling out. I can get it to Rev up only if I slowly feather the throttle. If I punch it, it immediately boggs and dies. Sometimes it's fine on half choke. I've put smaller and larger main jets and the only thing that changes is full and half choke work properly. Still have to have the mixture screw all the way out and it boggs on quick throttle. I'm at wits end trying to figure this out. Ove cleaned this carb probably 10-15 times. Can anyone help? Thank you
I have a 150cc 2018 BENNCHE 4 wheeler that setup for like 6 months and I replaced the battery and also had to replace the fuel filter because it was leaking but anyways my 4 wheeler is hard to start and when it does start it bogs down and dies on acceleration and then I noticed there was gas in my oil so is that my float valve
Just had same condition on 200 Yamaha. Mine would not get past idle with throttle unless on choke. (Completely clear pilot circuit) my fix was going 1 size up on pilot jet. Make sure your new Chinese carb has the same jets. It may have smaller as they are usually geared towards 125cc or less machines. Good luck let us know your fix!🤞👍
Hi Steve. I'm your new subscriber from KSA. I got small bike the Honda TMX 155. My plug reading was fine so far having a light tan color which means i got a desired mixture. My issue is that, i can't start my bike with a single kick after overnight parking. It takes 3 - 5 kicks to start w/o choke. And sometimes, takes more kicks if I choked it. Around 8 - 10 kicks if parked over a week. Some owner's and mechanics of this bike said that it is normal for several kicks but i'm not convinced. The average morning temperature in my place was 30 "C. Can you give me some hints to check as I want a single kick every cold start?
Hi Jeaven. It can be normal to kick it a bunch of times, especially if its cold. If it were mine I would adjust the low speed fuel screw and turn it out 1/4-1/2 turn to richen up that circuit. There might be a tamper proof plug installed in the way of the screw that may need to be drilled out so you can adjust it, but that's the solution to your issue.
I got a question, every time I type in this engine number, SC39E 2101372 I dont get no results. Could you be able to tell me the size of the motor, its a honda valkyrie, but it is not the flat 6 motor, please and thank you.
recently i replaced the old carburator on my 89 big bear 350 with a ruijie one that is supposed to be for that year among others, it was much harder to start as soon as it was installed and now that we have some snow down and needed to plow the driveway the bike started moved 15-20 feet, died when we went to shift to reverse and now we cant get it to start at all
I just put a new carburetor on my warrior 350 it’s running way to high n will not stop I adjusted everything I can what can be the problem??? Please help
Which way do I bend the float needle to shut of more fuel. I have a Honda rancher that I think is getting too much in the bowl. Exhaust smells like fuel and crankcase getting fuel
You'll want to bend the tang up towards the needle, which will in turn allow your float level to be set lower. Unfortunately, we don't have a video on setting float level but there are some great videos on UA-cam showing the process.
@@rmatvmc yes it is on the opposite side of the throttle thank you! I have trouble getting the right ratio on my scooter.. its 4stroke and have only one mixture screw, how do i know if its working properly?
Backfiring can have a few causes but if you've isolated it to timing you can try advancing it and see if that helps. Also check your fuel pump and filter are both working correctly.

A lot of info! I'm wondering how to adjust the throttle return spring on 1992 big bear 350? It has been sitting for a few years and the return spring is very tight.
It's not the return spring, its the cable being corroded and lack of lubrication. Try a new cable and see if that solves your problem.

Do you have a kit. For 2006 suzuki eiger 400 ?
We have carburetor repair kits for your ATV that you can check out here: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/atv-fuel-and-air-intake-systems?v=2006-suzuki-eiger-400-4x4
Wow U spent some time making this vid just came across it thanks heaps subscribed 👍
Thank you
Could you help me find the vacuumed line diagram or at least help me figure it out thanks
"You'll see this on generators..." and jet skis. Mikuni Super BN is great.
Would popping thru the carburetor be considered a lean condition? 1990 kawasaki Bayou klf300c with Aftermarket Chinese carb.
Don't buy Chinese carbs! they are junk. you are better off rebuilding the OEM carb.
What size Carburetor does a 1990 Suzuki LT250s QuadSport is ? I had it messured and it is 32mm on the outside & 23mm on the inside............
The stock carburetor on a 1990 Suzuki LT250S should be a Mikuni 34mm.
@@rmatvmc We had it messured they said it was 32mm it is a round slide
Thanks.
I got a question, every time I type in this engine number, SC39E 2101372 I dont get no results. Could you be able to tell me the size of the motor, its a honda valkyrie, but it is not the flat 6 motor, please and thank you.
recently i replaced the old carburator on my 89 big bear 350 with a ruijie one that is supposed to be for that year among others, it was much harder to start as soon as it was installed and now that we have some snow down and needed to plow the driveway the bike started moved 15-20 feet, died when we went to shift to reverse and now we cant get it to start at all
well if the original rebuild-able carburetor is gone maybe another chinese copy will be better a 2nd time
I just put a new carburetor on my warrior 350 it’s running way to high n will not stop I adjusted everything I can what can be the problem??? Please help
Check throttle cable free play and adjust the idle screw down.
If the hose where my air filter hooks up isn't connected to the carburetor would it make my four-wheeler lose some. Horse power.
Rocky Mountain ATV MC thank you very much. Out of adjustment will explain what I meant ones correct?
What is the this in the thumbnail?
I have it on my carb as well as an electric enricher. It has 4 wires connected to it
I believe you are referring to the TPS (throttle position sensor).
@@rmatvmc yes it is on the opposite side of the throttle thank you! I have trouble getting the right ratio on my scooter.. its 4stroke and have only one mixture screw, how do i know if its working properly?
Where to buy a carburetor for a 2002 Honda rancher a t v 350

How to fix back firing through my 1990 Harley Davidson carb do I increase or decrease my timing
Backfiring can have a few causes but if you've isolated it to timing you can try advancing it and see if that helps. Also check your fuel pump and filter are both working correctly.
Its not timing, its carbonation being incorrect. or you have a exhaust gasket leak.
Word.
I have the issue on my coolster 100cc. Idles fine usually soon as I give it alot of throttle it dies down
It must be lean move the clip on the needle
Downward is more rich on clip position
Really excellent video!
What should the idle speed be on a hot Honda 125 engine?
It will depend on your exact engine but the idle speed will generally be around 1,100 to 1,500 RPM.
@@rmatvmc This is a bike with only 2000 miles. The idle was 1000 rpm. The headlight would blink at 1000 and would not start electrically. The battery would go dead so i turned it up to 1300 so the headlight stays bright. I think the problem is fixed but if in happens again i will replace the battery. Thanks
Nice video
thanks
Thanks bro
What about fuel from overflow?
I’m having a problem with a raptor 2001 660r one of my customers bring me a carburetor which after install it’s leaking fuel on the air filter side of the carb are two holes looks like little brass bushings only one of them in one of the carbs is leaking somebody here have an idea what are those holes for or how to fix the problem?
Check the float valve and O-ring on the float valve seat. Most likely the cause.
As I was looking at the schematic for the 2001 Honda 400EX carburetor I see a jet that nobody speaks about. Everybody talks about the choke the float bowl the pilot Jets the main Jets the needle and then settings but nobody speaks of number 38 in the schematic for the 400EX I'm pretty sure it's the same carb as the 300EX maybe the 450 number 38 in the schematic JET, SLOW AIR (#110) what's that about?
This is awesome. Learned a lot 👌🏽
Thank you for explaining all this. Majorly helped! I did have a question. What is the electrical wires that go into my carburetor? 2000 Kawasaki prairie 300 4X4
They are either for a TPS sensor or Electric choke.
Ty ty ty!
I have yet to find a video where someone simplifies where the damn fuel line input is and the outlet 😣 wtf can someone help? I’ve got 2006 Yamaha Kodiak 400
Awesome, I didn't know backfiring was a lean engine, I'm Due to fit a 30mm carb to my Atv
I spot a Lectron carb!
Had to show off that clear float bowl ;) Good eye.
Thanks for watching!
Should have explained how that bad boy works.
I would have but we were trying to keep to the basics of carburetor function.
20:40 I think he switched up lean and rich points
Dosalt please explain your point
Dr Carb!
