How are sister
Watch your videos and they are EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL!!!
One small thing. Can you put the text that you use on top of the video? It’s hard to see what your doing with the text where it is
@@sandycochranfitover5078 that's closed captioning. You can turn that off by clicking the CC on the bottom right of the video.
With pleasure
People generally think that it’s a small exercise but they don’t realize that it can drastically change your guitar playing
100%
Exactly!!
So true.
thank you😍
It's hard. I'm old and just started guitar again after 40 years I'm just going to learn excersises and things before starting on chords and songs.
"a lot of students play chords one finger at a time"
you're really exposing me like that-
Keep practicing so you can use two fingers or more 👍🎸
I am 53. Just purchased my first guitar 3 weeks ago. Honestly, I haven't found something so entertaining and frustrating at the same time. Maybe ever. I did this exercise and literally couldn't move my ring finger at all. After a week, it hasn't gotten easy, but I can do it pretty well. Awesome exercise! Watching a new connection form between my brain and finger was the coolest thing!!!
Really glad to hear that! Keep it up :D
Hey Lauren. At 62 years old, I’m a late beginner who spends a minimum of 2 hours a day watching guitar instructional videos. I’ve never seen this exercise before and it’s brilliant. I’m hoping to see improvement in my dexterity. Thank you. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Matthew glad you enjoyed it!
@@LaurenBateman I am 55 years and starting from today. Hope, to learn this skill. Thanks for sharing your tips.
It is one month since. Is it better now? I am asking because I am also 63 and a late beginner.
It's never too late mate
Keep going
For this generation they are all blessed cause of youtube and internet...
These finger exercises came in handy for my girlfriends too. I recommend them😅.
🤣🤣🤣
@@LaurenBateman great video tho
Hahaha!
Them! How many girls are you playing with bruh?
@@sarkerkaesabumdzakaria9590 3 girlfriends and 2 wives hallahakbar😁😅😅
after 4 days 20 times a finger, my ring finger travels freely and transitions in to chords are much easier.....i will incorporate this simple excerise into my warm up practice....thank you..such a great instructor
Keep it up
The fact that you like everyone's comments make me respect you even more 🤗
I try my best 😃
I don’t play the guitar
Initially, I underestimated this. But, was blown away by the results. Thanks a lot.
Great to hear!
One of the best guitar teachers of all time. Will be doing these exercises everyday for now on every morning.
🎸🎶
Rock on!
She’s the best… I watched many videos but she’s the best
@@awanglunghu3583 that’s your concern because? Have you? That’s none of your concern.
Hii. Passed one years. R u still playing guitar?) Please share ur experience
You’re easily the best guitar teacher on UA-cam.
Hey Erik, thank you so much. That makes me so happy
I love the patience of the tutor in explaining and showing the movements on the fretboard.
Really helps to build confidence.
Glad it was helpful!
Whoa! What a break through moment. I've been using spider and string skipping to improve dexterity, but this has totally revolutionized my playing, and in just a few minutes. Easily the BEST exercise ever. I've always assumed it was my pinky slowing me down. I've subscribed straight away. Thank you Lauren.
Love it. Welcome to the channel.
It was a great surprise after one week. Thank you for your video. I change chords more than better than two weeks before. Daily 5 minutes training is really ok. Thanks Lauren
That's awesome! Keep it up :D
I am 59 yo and have been trying to learn for several years. I have had 3 teachers over 6-7 years, and paid a lot of $, but none of them taught me the exercises and techniques Lauren taught in the first video and this one.
I have never been able to make the chord changes quickly or smoothly enough to actually play any songs. So, I paused my learning many times because I did not progress.
I don't remember how I found Lauren's first video, about a week ago, but these two lessons are by far the most important I have ever had. I am finally making progress. These fundamental exercises are challenging and enjoyable.
Maybe I can actually learn to play and not keep stopping and starting 😊
Thank you Lauren. You are the first, and only teacher, including dozens of popular online teachers, to slow down, break it down, identify the most difficult challenges and barriers, then teach in a clear way that I can actually follow. Thank you.
Brian, wow, oh my goodness. I love this! So happy to help. Keep up the good work!!
Huge respect for responding to every comment 😊❤️❤️
I try 😊
Great lesson, Lauren. I've been playing for about 20 years, but had never thought of doing this. Thanks so much for posing. I just subscribed.
You're welcome and thanks for the sub!
yet another brilliant one - this is so 'real' - more helpful than you can imagine. A great teacher.
You got it!
Great advice
Best teacher ever !
Kenneth 76 year old from Sweden
Hello Kenneth 👋
Honestly, thank you for this. A few of my students have been struggling with finger placement especially in chords and I hadn’t thought of movement exercises. So simple yet effective!
Glad it helped!
The third finger is the hardest especially with old arthritic joints.
The exercise is very good but you have to stay with it daily.
Thanks for the help for an old timer.
Rick, yes I work with many students that have arthritis. This is a great warm up to get the fingers moving.
Lauren .... older guy with older hands.... so I keep coming back to Lauren bateman 🎶 🎵
cannot lie, watching you have to “assist” the third finger back down made me giggle so much. but i cant wait to try this, i think it’ll be really helpful! thank you!!
You are welcome! Let me know if it works for you.
Having disabilities, I was getting discouraged learning guitar because of my limited movement, but kept going.
I found your video tonight before turning in. You gave me a new goal to shoot for. Whatever movement I can gain, thanks in advance. Tomorrow is a new start.
Just don't give up, and keep practicing. You got this! 😊
I also have disability (fine motor impairment) and can't wait to see how this exercise helps! When we are able to progress in spite of disability it's that much more rewarding! I'm fighting with you!
@@dragonsanonymous Be encouraged, and I'll be right along with you. Been dealing with MS for years, with early- stage Parkinson's and a bad back to add to it. I'll do whatever possible to gain whatever I can.
Keep going, God bless you.
@Ldy Della It's a discouraging disease, but keeping things moving can help with a positive attitude. I've rebooted my start in learning guitar twice already and know that quitting will be a major discouragement. So I keep trying. Better to get limited skills than none at all. 😁🎸
Boom wow I really like it
She said “don’t forget to breathe”
At that moment I realized I was holding my breath 😅😂
Ha ha ha. Isn't that funny? Happened all the time in lessons. I would ask students, are you breathing?
Hi, I am from Digos City,Davao del Sur,Philippines.thank you for this exercise.will start today.hoping this time I can improve my flexibility.-mary
Wonderful! Keep it up!
😊😊😊
Very helpful. Thanks Lauren
You're so welcome
Thanks so much for this tip. It's amazing how something so relatively simply can have such a profound impact on my playing.
Right?! You're welcome! Hope it helps.
Love your short and very informative videos.
Thanks Rajat!!!!
Really helpful tips Lauren. Your lessons are very clearly presented and at a very user friendly speed compared to some of the other you tube videos. Will practise these regularly. Many thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Great advice ! Thank you !
You're welcome
Thank you! This is the first time I've seen this finger exercise. It's nice to finally see a finger exercise that is unique from any other finger exercises I've seen anywhere else.
Hey Mark, glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful.
Best tip yet!! Two thumbs up 👍👍🤗
Dawn thank you so much!
Once again great advice thankyou Laura
Any time Anthony
Brilliant! Thanks Lauren!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Everyone who's doubting this exercise..seriously guys do it. It proved to be really effective for me. I'm finally able to play that dreaded f chord and my transitions got so much better in one week...compared to just practicing transitions for one month. I still do it. I consider it my lucky guitar finger exercise.🥰
Awesome!
Hey Lauren! I'm gonna practice this exercise because am having a tough time in transition. Am glad that I came across your channel and I learnt a few chords like em, g, c , sus d watching your videos yesterday. Thank you 🇮🇳
That is awesome! You got this!
Thanks Lauren, beautifully explained. Love your channel.
Thank you so much!
I love your channel so much! The thoughtful, patient way you deliver information is fantastic. And the fact you take into account that some of us watching may be older (I'm a 48yo beginner) makes a huge difference! Thank you!!

Great Exercise!!! Thank you.
You're so welcome!
Thanks Lauren! This is a great exercise.
You're so welcome!
Such a great exercise! I'm on day 10 of playing and just finished Lauren's 14-day freebie course. I enjoyed it SO much that I will be enrolling in the full program. I'm also a distance runner and have actually worked on independent toe articulation in the past, so I know that exercises like this WORK! So here I am - physically holding two fingers down in an effort to get that ring finger to move. I absolutely remember doing this with my toes too! The digits do eventually come around. Another great video, Lauren! Thank you!
Woo hoo!!!! Can't wait to have you in the course 💪💪💪🎸🎶
I was looking for an exercise to stretch your fingers. Your lesson was very well explained which I am using now. No one has explained this exercise. Once again a great lesson!! 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the tips. Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it thanks so much for commenting
Thank you Lauren,,,, you broke that down nicely and in an easy to understand way..... I classify this piece of info as very important to grasp. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful!
Oh wow, I'm learning so much from you in such a short time. This is awesome. I have progressed so much in just 2 weeks. And it all becomes logical / common sense over time. Thank you so much.
Dirk, so happy to help!
Good afternoon Lauren! I just to say thank you very much for this tutorial. When I first started playing the guitar, I was like a snail, but, after doing this exercise for two months, I play smoother and faster now.
Great job!
GREAT. Indeed helpful.
You're welcome!
very helpful..again; always learning something from your videos..much appreciated
Glad to hear it!
Wow this really does relax the hand! I played a tune, and then I tried this for the first time and right after played the same tune, my hand was so much more relaxed and I could easily play it without my hand tensing up!
Awesome!!! Glad to help.
Up, Down: Cool, guitar burpees! I've used this tip from one of your other videos, somewhere, and it is great. The prescription you give here is a big help, because I did over do it at first. Again, thank you for all you do to help us learn to play.
Guitar burpees! Yes I love it. I always said guitar push him stupid I'm going to call them burpees from now on.

You're welcome Rick. Glad to help.
I really like your teaching Style and this is the first exercise I feel like I can actually do. It would be really cool to do an actual lesson with you I think. Thank you
Glad to help Eric ☺️
been working on this a lot can't relax though, can't even get my as perpendicular as yours, hurts to try. I can feel it up to my biceps. Seeing improvement though. Thanks
Loved this exercise- my fingers are so stiff. Looking forward to getting them to move easier. Thank you.

It may look like a easy exercise but dear god the mind muscle conation and intense forcus to make the third finger with without the 2end or pinky move is insane,Thank you for this great video just started looking forward to seeing results
Ha ha. Keep practicing it gets easier.
That ring finger part is tough. Also I could really feel that in my forearm muscles afterwards
Yea it's a toughy. Try and keep that forearm relaxed. Breathe through it. Never force it.
Thank you, Lauren. I found this video exercise very helpful and will start practicing it everyday. 😀
Hey Roxan, that's fantastic. I'm glad that you found this super helpful.
SUPER helpful, thank you. This works!
You're welcome!
Been doing this since past 1 month. And it really helps a lot to increase the speed of the fingers. I came back just to share my results.
Thank you so much dear for sharing this exercise 😊💕
Thank you for coming back and sharing your results!
Thank you for this amazing video!! I was an amazing guitar player 20 years ago, it's been a long and sometimes frustrating journey trying to reteach myself this skill, but I'm determined! Your videos are my favorite, this exercise has already been so helpful. The C to G transition gets me everytime!! I do feel a lot of pain in my left wrist and some tension in my shoulder when I do this. I have been watching videos about proper hand positioning which is obviously the problem. I have to yet to find my solution. Thanks Lauren for your wonderful instruction!
Are you using a guitar strap and pointing your guitar neck upwards? That can help with proper wrist ergonomics.
Your such a great teacher Lauren. Thank you very much.
Thank you! 😃
Wonderful lesson lauren, thanks..
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really appreciate this exercise of fingers 😍😍🥰🥰🥰I want to learn more thank you so much💕😘😘😘😘
More to come!

Glad you like them Wigan! 😃
This works so well! Thanks for another great lesson!
Glad you like it!
I enjoy all your videos, and thanks for taking time making it.It's really helpful.
Nelson, thank you for taking the time to watching comment. Glad you're finding it helpful.
Thanks for this set of wonderful tips. I am doing these exercises each day. One question do you have any thoughts about thumb movement/stability/positioning during chord changes? I am trying keep my thumb under control but it difficult.
Depends on the chord honestly. I wrap it over the top something to mute strings and sometimes it's on the back of the guitar. Particularly for barre chords and power chords.
Thanks Lauren!! I need these basics, or I'll never learn to play song that actually sounds like a song!!
It's all about the basics. When you learn a song it's just putting a bunch of those basics together like a puzzle piece
Lauren I thank you for this finger excercise vid. I will put it into use. Thank you so much
You’re welcome
Thank you so much, Lauren !❤❤❤

Hey Lauren, I have been doing this exercise you suggested for 10 days now, and what a massive improvement it has made in my chord changes and accuracy. Thank you so much for the timely tip. Keep up the great work.
