Dad's surprise for Mustang like he drove in high school, father/son firing up the engine, metal repair of floors, finding car while skateboarding after hunting a Mach 1 for 11 years.
That...was a GIFT! That's just awesome! nThat man realized the situation with the car and his health yet because of the love the younger guy had for the car he basically gave it to him. Those wheels and tires are easily worth what the kid paid. Great story and a great gift from that man. PLEASE A PART 2!

Jerry....is the part 2 in the works? It might take him a while to get it really fixed up i guess. It would take me probably 3 years of saving and working on it myself as much as I could to restore that car right.

The 69 and 70 Mustang fastbacks are bringing heavy dollars now. This 70 Mach1 was worth $4000 without ANY of the parts. I'm with you mojomoore1, Jared should have been honorable and gave the old Man $4000.

Exactly this. The entire thing was he wanted to see the mach 1 go to good hands and for it to be appreciated. I won't forget the way he told me Jarrod, you are truly the rightful owner of this car,and I'm glad that that you have it. To this day I maintain good contact and we are as good of friends as anybody.

My dad has always been like this. His nickname growing up was 'buzz'. Like a bee.. all the family calls him that to this day.

@@funtyes1970 The thing is the old guy was really put in a bind with the city threatening him. Car was a steal at $4 or even $6k.

One of the biggest mistakes I ever did is handing on a project car to an asshole who begged me to let him have it. I gave him the car for FREE under the condition he would work on it.
I love cars so much that I had rather lose this vehicle than letting it rot away. He told me he would help me on one of my other projects. I turned out he did not help me for 5 minutes.
He parked my car and let it sit and rot for nearly 20 years! He was even shameless enough to ask for the title and all the paperwork. When I could have bought a partscar (and my knowledge in restoring cars had improoved greatly by then), I told the guy about the parts car that was for sale. He obviously was much to lazy to do any work on the car himself. I asked him if I could get the car back to restore it myself. He answered he would charge me A LOT of money before he would hand it back to me. Because he had "stored" it for many years. After all this time he had not even bought sparkplugs or any other parts for it. I hope karma will bite this assole in the butt!

In Switzerland we do not have the system with titles.
If you have an old "Fahrzeugausweis" issued by the registration office when the car was last registered, you own the car. The name on the paper does not matter. I have cars that are currently not registered. Their papers are not in my name. In one case those documents are nearly fourty years old.
I have a very similar story with a 1969 Mustang Fastback. The vehicle truly becomes priceless when there is a great story behind it.
He gave that kid the car.
I'd have to go back and give the guy another grand at least.

I have a 1969 mach1 fastback I found mine At the age of 13 in West Virginia And literally I've been working on it ever since it is now completely silver With purple and black holographic flames from the front wheel wheel to the rear wheel wheel that when the light hits it it actually jumps off the car and flickers it is absolutely sick And I would never trade my car for anything

He seems so excited and happy to help you. I also teared up ,when the man said that he sold it to you, because you are the rightful owner, because of your honest, a good man, and I agree. 😀

Wow! You are truly blessed to have gotten that 1970 Mach 1. I don't think there is anyone else it would mean as much too as you Jerry. I also have a 1970 Mach 1 and I am not sure I would even sell the rocker panels for $2500. Hope you can pass it down to your son one day. Wonderful story.

Congrats, great to see another one put back on the road. My dad left me a regular 69 fastback. I’m doing a frame odd restomod into a Mach 1 tribute in honor of my dad. We had started it together but my son and I will finish it for him.
Congrats Man. It took me 15 years of looking in back yards and over fences to find my 70 sports roof and have the money to bring her home. I paid $8,100 for it 12yrs ago and I’ve put 4x as much in it since lol. But I’ll never sell it . It’s the only car I ever want since I was putting models of them together when I was a kid

Please realize the generosity of the old timer......If it were me or my son......I would be over there painting the dudes house and mowing his lawn........delivering the occasional hot meal. I say this because your young and not made of money yet.....but a little sweat off your back to show your appreciation the the man would be the ticket.

I hear you! My first car in 1987 at age 16 was a 69 Camaro that was freshly restored. Drove it all through high school and many years after. One day a guy just had to buy it and put a nice amount of money on the table. I stupidly sold it.
I sometimes dream the car is in my garage. I wake up happy, but then realize the Camaro is gone. The memories of all the good times…
Well, sounds like you made a profit, but to have the car, yeah. I've done the same thing and the pain of my decision comes and goes.
A great story with a good ending. Almost similar to mine, my dad had a 76 Cobra II w/ blue stripes he would always tell me stories about all the stangs he owned. But the 76 II just stood out. He lost it in 86, when a family destroyed it. Since I was 8 yo I wanted one. But when I finally had a real job and money. I was on the hunt, it was a tough mission but I finally found one; it took me two years. But its a 78 King Cobra, but ay even more rare care. Right now it's a project car and I'm so glad that I have it.

I own the exact same Mach 1. Medium lime metallic with ivy green interior. 351 W 2v. I have owned it since I was 18, I am 61 today.
That's awesome Mike. I wish I still had my 390 XR falcon I build at age 18 but was forced to sell when I moved overseas. Now, I also have Mach 1. Grabber Green 428 R code. Like Jarrod I believe the car found me :-)

My 70 fastback was the same color. I bought it for $800 in 1979. It had a 302 and 3speed manual transmission. My dad and I did the body work. I wish I didn't sell mine.

There are many ways to help the old guy at this stage of his life. Money doesn't ALWAYS have to change hands. Sometimes, long term friendship can develop. The old guy looked out for your future, now look out for him, he doesn't have long.
Well I am damn glad these stories are still out there . When a kid can no longer dream about and attain that mustang down the street under the cover , well its just not America anymore...... A more pure story does not exist..... It just doesnt..... Many many years ago that kid was me..... I am sure there are many here that can look way back and remember the same thing themselves.
Exactly my thoughts, and I heard these stories for years, how a neighbor or friend gave a younger person a price under market, and I wanted to chronicle one. Then, I was surprised when many viewers turned on the young buyer, even after in the video I asked the retired seller why he sold his car so cheap. Christmas came early, I am really happy for you, don't ever let it go...I had a 69 Camaro SS.. First car I ever bought, bought it in "70. I still have a picture of that car. not a week go by I don't think about it...I'm retired from Ford assembly plant in Louisville Ky.

Love this story. I was one almost that lucky. My neighbor had a 70 Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme that be bought for his mom in 74. She never drove it much as she was older and passed away shortly after. He had it and babied is whole life. I always told him I wanted it if he would ever sell it. One day, he was talking to me, oh somewhere late 89 early 90s, and told me he was thinking of selling it and a guy offered him a nice amount but if he didn't take it, it was mine. I'm talking all original from the dealer... he was in theory the 2nd owner... he was telling me if that guy didn't take, I'd get it for 700.00 to 800.00. Well the guy came through and I didn't get it. I saw it on a used car lot in Pownal Vermont. The guy was a dealer. My neighbor told me, he would have never sold it to him knowing that. He wanted it to go to someone who would enjoy it. So... that's my classic car story and you're a very lucky young man with a great story and a friend to the previous owner that knew he had to do the right thing.
I just heard of a similar story on an 1966 L79 Nova SS where the car went right up for sale and the original owner/seller was not happy. I think what we all should start doing is asking the seller more questions, like was the buyer a dealer, or even being more open about what the car is worth.

I know how he feels. Just picked up an '04 Lightning that I used to pass almost every day. One day there was a for sale sign on it and the older gentlemen who owned gave me an incredible deal. Definitely felt like divine intervention.

@@thewriter2549 Oh, it was a mess. The gentleman used it daily, chain-smoked cigars in it (burn marks everywhere) and rust on the frame (I'm working on it). But the body was in great shape, and the engine, which was replaced at 125k on a 177k chassis, runs perfect and was well-maintained. It's a driver and i'm restoring it...and I paid less than $5,000. (see video on my channel).
Jarrod, you have to show Brian the finished car. Give him the satisfaction of seeing what he was working toward.
I had a bad feeling watching this, the guy should have at least paid the initial asking price which was a steal as well. The video made me feel the man was taken advantage of…

Great story Jerry! Nice car needing a few things, then Jarrod brought out all the new parts! Really amazing all the extras, Jarrod got with the car. Jarrod you need to ask Jeff about what should be done with the car. Replace floor pan, or spot fix it. Total restoration or just bad spots.

I watched Craigslist for a year or so and found a 69 Coupe cleaned it up got it running and about five years later found a 70 Mach 1 street parked in front of a house. Paid a little more than you but still a great price.

Fait. It was meant to be. The old man had 10s of thousands of dollars in parts and he just let it all go with the car. Sometimes its not about the money. Its about it ending up in the right hands. I think this was a perfect example of that.

Neither me, nor the seller wanted profit ultimately. It only happened like this because of passing the dream on. I am remarkably grateful
@@jarrodfrankum good for you. My oldest brother bought a 71 Mach 1 with a 429 Cobra Jet in 1986 for $300 & I wish I would've had the love for cars then. Took me till I turned 40 to really get into cars. 69 & 70 is definitely my favorite years. I have a 70 coupe I'm restoring. I'll have my fastback someday. Good luck with it.

I had a chance back in 1994 but was about $2,000 dollars short. A Windsor 4bl car. I was 21 years old then.
