On The Trams with TubeMapper Luke

- Got chatting to TubeMapper Luke last week and was astonished to realised that he'd never ridden the Trams before or taken photos of them! So we decided to hang out for the day, and ride the Trains - Trams - Traims all day, and take some photos and video as we went. This is what happened ....
Find Luke's amazing photos of the transport network on his website here: tubemapper.com/
His latest book is here: www.amazon.co....
And his calendar is here: tubemapper.com...

Remember when UA-cam used to do Polls? But no more! Bah …. So use this thread. What’s better - Trams or DLR?
you can still do polls on community tab
DLR, you can look out the front and pretend you’re driving
Trams are fun
TRAMS ARE GOOD🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
They both are quirky in their own rights. They both have their sensible reason of being. Can't compare.
Are they even different anyway? The vehicles used on the trams are so-called Light-rail vehicles (LRV's). The vehicles used on the DLR - the oldest ones that is - were transferred to the Essen Stadtbahn (mix of Tram, Tram-Train, Light-rail, Underground and Interurban) system. The ones on the London Trams - CR4000 - are derivatives of the first low-floor "generation" used on the Cologne Stadtbahn system - K4000. And the ones used on the Manchester Metrolink - M5000 - are derivatives of the first modern high-floor vehicles used on the Cologne Stadtbahn system - K5000.
Luke: "End of the Line"
Geoff: "Good name for a series"
Luke has a great eye and knows exactly what image he is after. A very gifted photographer .
Luke is a hilarious guy, I love him
I must say, I’ve met him irl, and I agree
My daughter doesn't think I'm funny lol!
@@tubemapper Children never find their dad funny.
It's your duty as a father to embarrass your kids - especially your daughter if you have one which, happily, I do. Dad jokes are an essential part of this ....😁
This guy is very likeable, but. I like to think I can take good photos. I'm impulsive, so I wait for the opportunity and - god willing - I have my camera available. The 'but' is that I have no artistry or creativity, so I can't think of a great shot in advance. This guy is annoying because he has the foresight to do this.
That shot with the chimneys and everything else grey, apart from the green of the tram, was pure genius.
A special round of applause to TubeMapper Luke for giving us some iconic shots of Geoff at the opening of the Bond Street Elizabeth Line Station.
Luke's grin is infectious. I find myself smiling and feel cheered up just looking at him. Thanks!
When you find something that you enjoy as much as Luke enjoys tube photography, you're winning at life, I hope you all find such enjoyment in yours, we all need more enjoyment during our limited time on this amazing planet
Love the way you said "current" at the Ampere tram stop.👏😁
Much love and appreciation for Luke (and his work)
Luke comes across as such a genuine, charasmatic guy who loves what he does. Top video!
Just like Geoff, Luke just looks like he LOVES doing what he does. And as a photographer myself, it warms my heart to see other photographers just enjoying their craft. It's also great to see Luke rediscover the wonders of the Tram, like he entered Wonderland.
It is like being in wonderland... tramland!
Luke is a really fun guy, Geoff please do some more videos with him, the pair of you 'bounce' off each other really well.
A shared day on the DLR, which is clearly Luke's passion, would be a great follow up to this video...just saying!
@@Northstander That would be superb.
Luke is wonderful, and a fine photographer!
Much appreciated Edward
great video and what a LEGEND TubeMapper Luke is!
Many thanks 😊
Luke’s a top guy; love his work.
Luke’s enthusiasm makes me happy.
Lovely to meet both Luke and yourself with my family on the Wimbledon tram platform. A serendipitous moment for us on Wednesday evening! Been tuned in since the 'All The Stations' days and found your YT content enjoyable 😊
I love Luke's commitment to symmetry in his compositions, both horizontal and vertical!
It's fascinating to listen to Luke explain what he's looking for in a photo, and how he can envision what time of day and what weather will work best in each setting - a skill that I would love to have the time (and patience!) to develop.
Thanks Stevie
Luke comes across as such a nice guy. That infectious smile and genuine love for photography and Train(m)s. Great video, more appearances from Luke please Geoff!!
Luke is a star! Rock on!
Well this was fun fun fun on the tram tram tram, great banter and need more puddles! Nice to see TubeMapper as well.
what a legend luke is
i have had his calendar for the past 3 years and they never fail to make me smile
All the tram stops, all of them
Luke looks so happy. I reckon he is extra happy because he is in the same video as Geoff.
What a fascinating video to watch Luke in action. I love his photos, very inspirational to any photographer. I have given his books and calendars as Xmas presents and everybody is delighted to receive them. Follow him on Twitter.
Luke's photos are impressive.
Ah thanks so much 😍
A tram-train is a real thing. There are trams in German cities that are trams inside the city center, but then they use the mainline rail network and share tracks with normal "heavy" trains outside the cities.
That was a whole lot of fun! You two have great energy with each other.
Luke!!! You're a legend. Love your book! Thank you for a great video, Geoff.
Luke takes some fabulous photos. Brilliant!😁
Geoff, love the content. Please can you do more videos with tubemapper Luke. He is amazing👍
Luke's enthusiasm is infectious! Great video. Can't wait to see his after dark series.
Absolutely loved seeing Luke on the channel. I'm excited to get out and get some good shots this weekend
I’m LIVING for Geoff trying to capture a rainbow 🌈
Great video with two fantastic characters.
What's great about this video is it gives me photography ideas and is also centred on public transport. Nice two in one here for me. Will definitely be checking out Luke's work. 👍
Great seeing Luke again, his photography is brilliant.
I do photography at school as a GCSE subject, all I can say this left me with some great Ideas!
This was a great fun video. Thanks Luke it was lovely to see a photographers perspective on everyday places.
I so loved this video, my new fave Geoff video. And great to have Luke along . I think we should have more with him taking his super photos , especially the puddle ones . And Traims, surely it’s now Croydon’ Traimlink . Finally, a cameo appearance of the 407, my local, bus. Perfect
I thought when the clouds were breaking and the sun came through we were going to get a Trainbow.
You must mean a traimbow 🙃
Gotta love the Croydon Trams
I love Luke + his great photography!
Luke is a breath of fresh air, such enthusiasm....😎
Luke gives a whole new perspective on public transport. Interesting stuff.
I like Luke! Please include him in more of your videos..
What a fun video😊 Great to see Luke, I love his photos and his enthusiasm.
Brilliant video. I've been following Luke ever since you did that lockdown quiz with him as a guest host. I love his work.
As someone who lives at New Addington tram stop and a boyfriend who lives at Addiscoombe/Blackhorse Lane, if you ever need a tour of that end of the tram map then let us know! The trams are a severely underrated mode of transport and only ever really used by locals. Honestly one of the best modes of transports London has.
(My boyfriend fangirled so badly at the Blackhorse Lane segment 😂)
Hahaha. If you or your boyfriend have any info, favourite views or tips about the Tram line please get in touch. My website details are in the video description . You can contact me through there. I'd love to have a frequent user of the tram share their vision with me!
After watching this I HAD to order Luke's books. Totally amazing, go get them!
Thanks Chris
Me and my daughter went down and rode the trams for the first time today! Great fun and what an amazing route. We honestly had so much fun running up and down the route today! Thanks Geoff for the inspiration!!😃
This was fun. I wish tube mapper had a channel too! Great stuff guys.
Hello! I have a channel but haven't posted much on it yet! 😀
@@tubemapper great! I hope you do!
Thx Geoff and Luke - really enjoyed accompanying you both from my armchair!
Luke is great so it's lovely to see you both together. And (completely off-topic) I'm having a short visit to London so took my first ever ride on the Elizabeth Line - and thanks to you then went to the TfL shop to buy a pair of purple moquette socks 😆💜🚊🧦
I'm just catching up on videos I've missed. Luke is a LEGEND!
I love the CR2000 trams because of it's inverters sounds. It always reminds me of the old of the Viennese Type T Interesting Fact: These are the predecessor of the Flexity Swift on which the CR2000 Trams are based on.
Geoff, your friends are always so mild mannered and lovely! 💚💛🧡
This video really put a smile on my face the whole time. I wish london had more traims
Great colab. Can't believe he's not been on the trams since they were red! Regarding the W's. Geoff your nerdiness never ceases to make me smile.
To the Trams!
To the triams
great work by Geoff, Croydon trams are true gem in London transport system. Tubemapper Luke is such a amazing guy, love his passion and photographic work is so on point and very awesome top shots
I was hoping you make another video with Luke and you did it! Thanks Geoff.
I love the Traim idea
Love your videos and Luke's photos!
Love your videos mate, was only in Elmers End + around that way last month, some would argue though that Croydon is in Surrey + Elmers End/ Beckenham are in Kent in Borough of Bromley!
I also did send you a message on Twitter few weeks back!
I'm in Kent right between Dartford/Bexleyheath!
Luke is a joy
3:15 Tramlink has 2 vehicles in their fleet. The one with the curvy W is the CR4000, and the one with the pointy W is the Variobahn.
as someone that lives in croydon the trams are the best
Your both mad !!..... Love it !
Luke is an excellent shooter. My fav part was near the beginning when the old lady let the doors close, then she hot the button to open them. Classic
They are amazing Luke!
Fun fun fun
Love this video Luke is so funny to watch.
Geoff and Luke having fun fun fun on the tram tram trams, I like it 👍
Very entertaining. I really love the colourful feathers in Like's hat! Hmmm... DLR vs Trams vs Underground? It has to be 1) Underground, 2) Trams, 3) DLR!
A wonderful posting. You are both great fun.(And the DLR is a definite favourite for me).
excellent banter between you to👍 i like both
Thanks!
This video has such a happy vibe to it, really liked it 😊
Luke is king of the puddle shot 👑 💧 and a fun guy to watch and hear
Some great photos..but all that ground level stuff, just inches fromm the puddles made me very nervous! I am not sure that I would trust my cameras that close to water...Great video, Geoff and Luke!
The new DLR trains are 1000% more photogenic imo... They look amazing!
The tunnel by Lloyd Park makes for some nice photos.
Spent some time on Luke's website. Amazing content and great photos. Very nice.
You really should have some sort of competition where one lucky viewer gets to hang with you on a video. Your level of excitement is catchy!
Thank you both for sharing this video that was very interesting and fascinating. I really enjoyed it.
Ah, I’ve been enjoying Luke’s photos on Instagram. Good to see the man himself. He seems like a excellent chap.
Nice buffer shot!
The latest RAIL magazine has 4 pages of Luke's work. Excellent photos.
An angle to celebrate this video that I’ve not seen mentioned. Fans of trains, trams, public transport in general are overwhelmingly white and male. Geoff platforming someone that isn’t that in the same way he’d show anyone else is a great thing to see. You can also see something similar in the way Geoff increasingly highlights accessibility stuff.
Just seen some of these photos on his website. Excellent and artistic!
i remember when this line first opened, I grew up in Beckenham and used to just ride it for fun as a kid, great times.
Great to see a colab with Luke love his work
Just bought a fancy Canon camera for myself and getting the fear when Luke puts his Sony in the puddles. I'm scared to take it out in the rain after how much it cost 🤣
the question is do you consider the camera a work tool or not.
As in the right shot you can make by dragging your camera in to the mud will pay for said camera.
If you are uncomfortable to use it. maybe start with a cheaper camera you do not mind if it gets mangled and work up to using your Canon in more the the most safe settings.
Mine has survived a couple of years in my bike's panniers and being used in the North East in all weathers.
@@roderickjoyce6716 I’m sure they’re durable and feel it too; just after you spend over a grand I’m a bit protective 🤣
I wish London had more trams!
I wull look forward to Luke's pictures
New Addington is lovely at night 😍
Is it really? If you have any snaps of if please send me a pic. My contact details are on my website in the video description
Looks like fun 😀🚂🚂🚂
There's nothing like rain for reflections, and even better is a wet night. Artificial light opens up amazing mood possibilities. It's what you see and what you feel and it's yours for the taking. Go create.
It's amazing hearing Lukes camera in multishot mode. When Kodak brought out their 1000ASA film, wonderful possibilities opened up but you only got 36 pictures per roll and couldn't see the results till they were developed so you had to be pretty sure of you were doing
Digital does allow us to make more mistakes! You had to be so careful with film!
