Geoff Marshall. Rail Expert. According to the graphics on BBC London this evening. You were on the final Chiltern service from Paddington to Ruislip and High Wycombe. I've done that return trip myself. A total of five people on board, two of them were staff, including the driver.
Awww such fond memories ... I met my wife - kind of - in Slough. We were on a GWR (or then First Great Western) train from Paddington to Reading and the train had an emergency stop at Slough (we do not know why), with alarms sounding in the train. She sat next to me throughout the trip but we didn't speak or look at each other. But when the train stopped so abruptly with the smell of asbestos from the brakes and all I turned to her and said "well this can't be good, can it?" ... best pickup line ever ;-)
I heard you on the announcement at my local station on Thursday whilst waiting for my train to work, was a superb announcement and I hope GWR let you do more of them!
Thank you for showing me the CartoMetroLondon map. This map fascinates me, as it actually shows the correct path for the Piccadilly line and I can follow it accurately like when I came to London in 1993 and got off at Russell Square, and my hotel was nearby. For some reason, maps fascinate me and the tube was like one big map I could easily get around when I was there. Thank you again Geoff.
Living in Swindon and using GWR quite a bit, I look forward to your dulcet tones. Interesting to see the people behind those announcements I hear all the time.

Swindon aint bad mate, you have the cheapest rent in the country in terms of percentage annual wage, try living in London where 40% of your wages go to rent.
@@TheSniper9752 That is true. Swindon isn't a bad place to live, it's just there are hardly any interesting things to do here. If you go to the town centre, all the good shops have shut down.

Nice one Geoff! I am picking my daughter up from Tiverton Parkway station on the 24th, i will make sure i am at the station a bit early so i catch your announcement! Merry Christmas to you and Viki.
Now it’s time to do a voiceover for Amtrak on the other side of the pond. I’d love to hear your voice making announcements at NYC’s Penn Station. Or, do announcements for the Long Island Railroad. It would be interesting hearing a Briton try to pronounce names of Long Island towns. When it comes to names, Long Island is just like Wales. There’s Amagansett, Syosset, Ronkonkoma, Wyandanch, Patchogue, Quogue, Mineola, Massapequa, Wantagh, Speonk, Yaphank, they look easy compared to Welsh but are pronounced differently than you think they are. Heck, you should be the next voice of “mind the gap”
I know it's not Long Island, but my favourite name on the East coast is Poughkeepsie. In the Mid West, it is Oconomowoc, WI and second best is Menomonee Falls, WI. Strangely satisfying for a Brit.
Assimilated Native American names seem to exist to be Shibboleth. If you trip over something like Wyandanch or Chappaqua, we know you’re not from the Tri-state.
Carto metro may have the best collection of track maps, mostly French trams but also London underground+some rail lines and NY subway map. Kudos to the guy who does this all by himself !
Great video Geoff, but honestly you should know how many GWR Stations there is... after all you visited All the Stations (shame there no plug emoji) and as for that map at 7:14 you can get that map in a book with the rest of the network, called 'TRACKatlas of Mainland Britain' which Platform 5 published but it does cost £27.95!

IKR, daft isn't it

The station and train PA systems are pretty lo-fi anyway. Probably not worth bothering to have a higher quality recording.
And let's face it, the stations they're playing in are likely to have a fair amount of background noise anyway!
No point contributing extra noise by including it in the recording.
