Thanks for watching.
This is your best video yet. My ear can hear the difference in quick succession way better that the other videos tracking one snare at a time over a long period.
Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I love my 402. The brass snare is a beauty.
Great video, THANK YOU!
Little surprised on how similar the AK Copper and the 402 sounded actually!
I REALLY dig that Tempest though.... very nice!
Lots of work to do these videos and we all appreciate it!
🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
thanks for making a very clear comparison, easy to watch and follow. Grooves simple and clean made the comparisons even better. Others could learn from your video how to compare gear without being over the top or as an excuse to show off.
Terrific vid, Ty! Beautiful playing. Makes me appreciate my 60's Acro
I love the distinct sounds of all four drums. Thanks
Thanks!
Yup.
They all sound like snare drums.
Cool demo. I liked the cuts from one snare drum to the next. Great job.
I love the AK Copper, but the Acro really held its own. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks man, i'm playing both drums most of the time.
+DrumBehm To bad the AK copper is so expensive.
They all sound superb ! No wonder why the LM402 is the most recorded snare of all time. To me the LM402 and the AK, but there is somethibg special about the wood snare. Great demo
great editing ! The Acro's decay loved you little groove. Fantastic stuff.
Great video and great editing.
Tempest sounded amazing
Nice job on the video.
please start making videos again..
All great drums. Have never heard of the Tempest, but AK snares are ridiculous, can't go wrong with a 'Phonic and Acrolites were intended to be "entry level" and just have that nice, dry pop! Nicely put together.
I like the tempest the most!
Great video, thanks for all the work, this must have been an editing / mixing / synchronizing nightmare... What video software did you use, Final Cut? Out of those snares I like the tempest better, rimshots sound really nice.
Hands down, the lm402 and the Acro are the best snare drums
Very well done and I thank you. One might only wish this level of effort were afforded in comparisons for other shells, heads, brands, and the like. Your efforts are not unappreciated.
Thanks.
Any vids with a vintage Pearl Free-Floating? I picture a model with a stainless-steel shell and Remo Falams II's (Coated top/Snare-Side bottom) being useful for comparison of snare units (e.g., Pearl OEM synthetic guts from the Competitor line, various strand count Pearl OEM carbon- and stainless-steel snappies, competitive snappies, Grover Club and SX cable snare units). The 7-mil Falams II Snare-Side is a perfect match for the Free-Floating's aluminum resonant-head bearing, and the SR-010 snare strainer set is designed for extended snare units on plastic straps.
Ak copper❤😊
SandsGreat My is Ludwig Alloy!!!
Saludos…
Great groove and video. How did you tune that acrolite? It sounds really good.
How many turns on resonant and batter side?
Thank you so much
andrea sirsi Thanks! I just cranked the bottom head up. The top head is tuned in a medium and equal tension, that it sounded good with all four drums in my room.
I just saved this as a favorite - as it is an excellent reference. Your tuning is most excellent - as is your editing skills and patience! These snares all sound GREAT and it is great to be able to hear the difference between the "Industry Standard" Supra and anything else. More tonal bellish ring (cymbal analogy) with the deep Supra - and honestly, I think I prefer NOT to have that - as in living that Acro!! You have the aluminum Luddy Standard? If so, would you please do a comparison video between that and the Acro - researching on whether I could just get a Standard as an alternative to the Acro. Thanks!
+drhappyyy Hi, thanks for your kind comment. On my first Video 12 Classic & Vintage Snares you can find a supra super sensitive, a supra cob and a 80's Acrolite, all in 5" deep. I do not have a standard supra. Cheers Chris
+DrumBehm No, I mean do you have a Ludwig Standard (model) snare drum - you know the one, flat gray, like an Acro without the bead.
+drhappyyy Ah, you mean this: www.drummerworld.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=55429&stc=1&d=1364188053 No, I don't have one.
I have a 1965 Acro, 1977 Supra (6.5") and a 1971 Standard and I can tell you that the Standard does not compare favorably to either the Acro or Supra. I also have a 1969 and a 1976 Supra 14x5 and those have a bit less overtones (bellish ring as you call it) than the 6.5". Of course, heads and tuning can change the overtones as well. So, remember, you can never have too many Supraphonics.
Whatever happened to Gabriel Ashford who made the Tempest snare drum shell?? Does anyone have her contact info?
MrNickdrummer Thanks. I used Final Cut Express. I played with a click during the groove sections, but still - it was enough pain. ;-)
Ich mag die Acrolite am liebsten. Besonders als Rimshots gespielt.
Wäre es möglich ein Video über Piccolo-Snares zu drehen?
Hi Lorenz, danke Dir. Was für Piccolo-Modelle schweben Dir denn vor?
Eventuell die Free Floating Modelle von Pearl oder aber auch die alten Yamaha Modelle...?
How many turns on the bottom side? Thank you for the answer
andrea sirsi Sorry, i don't count the turns. Just tune it really tight and try and error until it sounds good.
haaaaands down the AK is a supreme drum over the rest.
Yuuuuuup
Copper the best here.
However, still prefer bronze.
Tempest for sure. Supra 2nd. But then again depends on what sounds good to you.
Maple sound better!but not much difference...mics are cheap?
