One the best snare drum videos on you tube: each drum expertly tuned and played. No fancy BS playing where you can't hear how the drum really sounds. BRILLIANT.
Great video ! The Paul Leim signature snare was by far the best one.
The point is: With the right heads and tuning as well as your preference of size, material, and snare strands, most snare drums have the ability to sound great.
Pearl Sensitone Special Edition!!!!
It would be the least expensive, but sounds very good…especially for the price.
I have one and it’s the cheapest of my 10..snares..
I have a Chad Smith edition snare and love the sound she makes.
Cool video, I learned that bronze snare drums sound really good, thanks!
pearlブラスのフリーフローティング購入しました‼️
素晴らしいスネア👍
great post! i like that pearl special edition 6.5" deep snare drum, good demo mate!
Great snares. Thanks for posting. Appreciate your effort.
Hi, thanks for watching, this one had as I remember: Puresound Blaster + ambassador snare side head. Ambassador Coated (like all models) on top. All bottom heads were tuned tight, and top heads tunded medium. All screws equal, no detuning on certain screws. I use Los Cabos 8A Maple Sticks. Try to play decent. ;-)
wow! glad i seen this, my 70s cob pearl 6.5 deep brass sounds just like the pearl special edition one! brass shells yummmmy!!!
Lm402 for the win. Bronze mapex sounded great too. Really they all sound great tuned well as they are here
wow!!! awesome snares!!! and those pearl brass special edition and free floating brass snare... amazing.. good demo bro.
Kenny Aronoff really nice sounding snare!
Very nice!! Thank you for this video!! Very useful.
you've got them all sounding sweet hard to pick a winner:-)
Very good work, thank You!
pearl chad smith, tama Kenny aronof, pearl free floating is da best sound for me
Sonor Artist, Mapex Black Panther, Pearl Free Floating and Sonor Danny Carey are killer oO
Hi ! Schön gemacht und gespielt !
That Manu Katche is fantastic same with the Paul Leim. I'm not a Yamaha fan but damn they make a good snare.
awesome! thanks for this!
Yamaha manu katche and pearl free floating snare my 2 Favorite both had a very good clean attack
Excellent work !!! Thanks ;)
Awesome Video!!!!!!!
Weird I have never been a big brass snare guy until this video. I do however have a 5" deep pearl brass free floater and it does sound great!
Pearl Sensitone 14x6.5 is my next snare!
Der Typ ist mein Schlagzeug lehrer!!!😉
That Danny Carey Sonor is sick! Hopefully some day I'll be able to afford one of those bad boys.
Definitely, it sounds just like the snare sound on the Tool albums, funny that
awesome snare
Free floating y sensitone brass,me encantan.
great video,thanks!
Thanks, the pearl SE is nice and versatile and affordable. Check out the Sensitone Bronze 6,5 too.
The Pearl Free Floating brass was the best sounding. That has a lot of crack to it.
Seems that bronze snares all sound good. Makes sense; they've been using bronze to make cymbals for centuries because of its sonic properties.
Pearl brass excelente.
Hi. Great video's. I'm interested in knowing what settings you use for the Chad Smith snare. I have this snare and i'm finding it hard to get it sounding decent and without a lot of overtones. Thanks!
Muy buen video.
6半が好みなのがハッキリしました😄🥁
Nice video.
The sonor one makes me want a thick cast shell. All nice snares though.
Hey I got a Remo snare drum with Premier Resonator kit. Is it ideal to put a damping ring on or does it depend?
The video itself was well constructed. As well, the choice of snare drums to demonstrate was also very well done. My only problem is that when you're playing an actual drumbeat you are hitting a rimshot 90% of the time. Try hitting the snare dead center was no rim a little more often. It gives another perspective of tonality.
I agree, it got quite annoying at some points.
First of all, thank you! 2nd, what a nice collection! 3rd, im not fan of Sonor, but both Artist and Danny Carey sound insane! Here is my humble like Sir.
The Mapex Black Panther bronze sounds stupid good too! 'm about to get a 5.5x13 version of that drum... can't wait!
The Sonor Cast 6x14 bronze sounds insanely good as does the Pearl 6.5x14 limited!
i like the Sonor sneer but it al boils Down to this TASTE and NEED
PEARL SENSITONE STEEL...my pick and probably one of the cheaper ones.
Steel is very underrated and undervalued...great power in its sound.
Doesn’t even need to be mic’d up.
I have one of those Pearl free floating brass snares with a Evans G1 on it, sounds amazing!
Oh please not so many rim shots. Drum rolls tell you how it sounds
I had the same thing with my C.S so I fitted an Evans G2 and put an extra turn on the snare side. I'm not a fan of twin skin heads on snare drums but this seemed to do the trick. No doubt a Remo Emperor would do the same job or possibly a Remo Vintage. Hope this helps.
Pearl Special Edition!
Chad Smith!!!
Don't you think the Kenny Aronoff snare was one of the best sounding!
The KA145 was the best sounding in my opinion too, but it seems they changed now from normal hoops to cast iron hoops. The video here shows normal hoops.
No i didnt really like it.
No, it lacked anything unique in its sound.
No
what about that mapex black panther? i think easily the nicest snare there. the earlier ones were alright but the 2008 model kicks some.
Definitely the 6.5 drums sound better than the thinner sized ones which always seems to be the case to my ears. The Pearl Special Edition, Mapex Black Panther, and the Pearl Free Floating sound the best to me. Im gonna check prices on those. Probably quite expensive drums.
brass is king!
Sehr schön! Wo hast du die alle her, Chris?
Ludwig Supraphonic !!!
Kenny Aronoff snare the best.
Cant beat the LM402 Supra. Best ever!
A Pearl Sensitone sounds exactly like this drum. No need to spend the big bucks for the name.
1. Sonor Artist 2. Pearl Free FL. 3. Black Panther
Bronze is my favourite metal, but I thought the KENNY ARONOFF brass, stole the show here.
I learned that brass sings, bronze sings deeper, aluminum sizzles and steel cracks. Brass and aluminum for me.
It's all about taste, personally I like a tight snare sound.
Hey, great videos! Thanks for making them. I am going to request not playing constant rimshots (on all backbeats) in every video when you play a beat. Not all drummers play like that. Thanks again!
pearl ffs best sound for me ..
Please put dw vintage steel 14"5,5 and 6,5 and Yamaha stage custom steel 14 x 6, 5 on one of your video.
What are your hi hats? They sound great!
Thanks, it's a Zildjian A from the 60's.
I wish they wouldn't start with the snares off. All demos seem to do that.
It's the snare sound people are interested in.
I liked the Supraphonic and the Chad Smith best. Some of the others seemed a bit flat/dead, by comparison, to me.
I really want a Danny Carey snare but can't find one anywhere!! :(
and I'll take ALL of them !!!
all your snares sound amazing !! how do you tune them ?
Thanks. I tuned the all by ear, for best sounding pitch in the room. Tight bottom and medium top heads. All screws equal. Cheers, Chris
+Rhys Morgan I agree! +DrumbBehm is a master at tuning these.
the sonor cast is the winner minus the ridiculously high price of one
chad smith snare is a sleeper sound great if not better than most of these other snares including the lm400 but don't let your Drummer buddies know that its what you use as a main snare. drummers are snobs ;D
Will, I humbly apologize, I Didn't read it correctly and didn't realize there were 3 parts, Now I'm feeling my age, me and my old Dynasonic are gonna slunk off into the corner now. But HEY!!! I'm not dead yet, My wife got me a Carl Palmer Venus for Xmas and (after changing to Remo P77 power stroke batter) she plays like a dream, I think the head makes this drum, the Ludwig that ships with it is for crap, it now has nice deep (yes for its size I hear you choke, but not true) body with sharp pizzicato closer to the rim, and it has a great crack rimshot!!!! If anybody gets this drum PLEASE replace the head, it rules!
metal snare >>> wood snare
Yamaha Paul Leim Signature14х6,5
Strangely, the cheapest snare is the Pearl Sensitone steel ..Vision Series...certainly not the worst sounding, by any means.
Best value for money..
Slingerland, Gretsch, Rogers all missing. Any reason .?
All top brands.
Probably because you can't buy Rogers and Slingerland anymore? Gretsch, yes, but those others? Looooong gone.
+DrummerGrrrl
Plenty of Slingerland and Roger's on eBay.
They didn't to be new, just available.
Used by the greatest drummers of the past.
Going with the Danny Carrey.
Great videos, too bad there's no Tama Bell Brass for comparison.
Thanks, I wish I had one when I did the recordings.
Hi Tom, lies mal den Thread im DF. ;-)
Pearl brass limited for the WIN....plus ,good price point
Love that sonor but not for that price
pearl brass
Those sound a lot tighter than medium tuning and those wires seem a little tight too. Is it just me?
Agh!!! The "ring" run for your life! 🤕🤒🤒🤕
its crazy the japanese snares have asian style overtones!!!! wow...
Without a Rogers Dynosonic your just fooling your self, and also Keith Moons Premiere, inexcusable, Try again, IMHO, I'm not denying these drums are great, they are, just not thinking a drummer with 60 years of experience was in the loop as far as authentic real snare drum sound, and for Gods sake add the Black beauty in there, its Iconic !!!! Thank you from an old fart.
Gregory P. Booker these are modern drums, and this video is one part of a three parter. The black beauty is in one of the others.
402s the best
If this is "medium" tuning, I'd hate to see what "HIGH" is... Haha!
Nice job as I a possess a few of these.
The Chad Smith was not a great snare as even he didn't play it.
sonor artist series more than 2000$
sonor artist serie 2400$ O_O
All good. Pick the cheapest one of the lot. My belief?....modern music With close micing and effects, it's going to hard to tell which is which and there tends to be a homogeneous sound to recordings so the really fine details are lost. Now, acoustic music and recordings with ambient micing techniques, that's where some differences can be heard and subtleties can be heard. There is just too much distortion in so much modern music and esp. Rock. Lots of processing. That's why I say Pick the cheapest and play it. So damn much bashing going on in the name of awesomeness. Whatever.....
I can't stand when they constantly hit with a rimshot. I want to hear the drum. Hitting everything with a rimshot makes them all sound too similar and doesn't give me the true sound of the drum.
i agree!!!! and also i feel the snares are a bit too tight on all these drums..
***** lol ur jk right?????
I think you guys missed the fact that the first half of every single snare drum clip, when he switches from no snares to snares, he is not playing rimshots. So he both types of hits for every drum.
He's definitely hitting rimshots on the beginning part, not every drum, but he actually does.
Benjamin Mills
kkkkkkkk , coloca a da turbo... affz q merda ! kkkkk
not playing hard enough! great demo though.
why you dont hit it? this comparison doesnt help metal players
No Yamaha Jimmy Chamberlin signature? It's better than all of these drums.
Maybe not so big in Europe as the rest - this is from Germany so....(also he borrowed these snares)
