I think I am most impressed with the fact that they actually used brushed aluminum on the face and the knobs. I like the graphics and dig that they made the horns light up. I know it is stupid but I tend to find that items that the designers paid attention to the looks of tend to function like they should. Not always. Everyone has a story about a guitar with a beautiful flame top & well done bindings that also has crooked frets and the bridge installed in the wrong place. I once bought a Japanese Fender Jazzmaster partly becase I had wanted one ever since I saw one on a Ventures record and partly becase the candy apple finish was flawless and it had a painted headstock. You can't hear the painted headstock but it turned out to be a very nice, good sounding guitar.
Seriously! I'm torn between this and a catalinabread germanium fuzzrite. The fuzzrite sound a little better from the demos but I'm drawn to the maestro because I like the look of the pedal so much more
Holy fuzz tone, Batman! Looks and sounds very cool. Now, if only Keith would use one when the Stones play Satisfaction live. C’mon, let’s make that happen!
@@renodavid pretty sure this one fairly replicates the fz1 fuzz box but it wouldn't do the buzzy type of sound you'd normally hear from the stones. And i dont think richards would ever use pedals to this day since hes a "plug in through amp only" type guy
Classic Fuzz Tone from a Gibson pedal can be heard on the TV Sitcom Green Acres theme song.I believe the gentlemans name playing the guitar was Vic Mizzy on a Gibson Maestro F1 Fuzz pedal.
Not an expensive circuit to produce, and at $140, about reasonable. There are plenty of clones already out there, often at higher boutique prices. Not the most flexible fuzz as far as range of sounds, but it does do some nice lower gain ,driven, break up, and the full on is fairly singular. A+ in the looks dept.
I’ve always felt like it sounds more like an overdrive yeah there’s some nice fuzz sounds but like you said it has a nice lower gain I’m still thinking of picking one up :)
I’m waiting for someone to demo it next to the Behringer FZ300 which is supposedly inspired from the Maestro sound though I think it has more tonal options. But this Maestro sure sounds good 👍🏻
This demo video somehow doesn't bring out the true tone of these FZ-M pedals. There are better examples out there... In person these pedals actually sound really awesome. Especially 'Classic' mode.
I can't believe nowhere in the copy on any website (including the manufacturer's) talks about the actual circuit. "All analog". Ok, annnddd? Components? Is it germanium like the original?
JHS did that with their "Four Pillars of Fuzz" range, I've got three of 'em and love them to bits -- exact dimensions of the original Maestro FZ1. At least these pedals do have a wedge design going on, that's nice -- in fact I adore the look of these, though I'm underwhelmed with what I've heard heard so far.
This is clearly not a FZ-1 which used 3 germanium transistors. This uses six silicon transistors and a dual ganged pot, as found in the FZ-1S. So quite a different thing entirely. It's dishonest of Gibson to market these as FZ-1 clones.
Couldn't even do a bastardized version of 'Satisfaction'? I mean, that song is what elevated the original Maestro from zero (and I mean, seriously ZERO) sales in 1964 to they-couldn't-produce-enough-of-them by late 1965.
The original FZ-1 was very bright. In the Classic mode this one sounds nothing like the original! I have an original FZ-1A and have used them for 50+ years. I also have a number of original Fuzz's made by other companies. The recording of Satisfaction was done on a Gibson Firebird VII on the neck pickup with alot of E.Q'ing on the mixing desk at RCA Studios in Hollywood.
I've read that before about which guitar Keith used. Good to know how he did it. What do you think of the EHX Satisfaction fuzz? I like it, but i would love to play a real fz-1/fz-1a circuit to compare. Someday, perhaps.
@@benjohnson4810 got a ehx satisfaction recently. I think it's pretty damn awesome but it's very sharp and bright. it sounds great through some of my amps, others not so much
@@willcampbell4097 I like it too, but you have to be sure your amp/guitar tone isn't too bright. Humbuckers probably sound best with the pedal. I think i will buy a Boss Tone pedal from Mahoney/Jordan. They make the plug in unit too.
@@rockhead11Thank you. You've just nailed what is wrong with probably 75% or more guitarists who demonstrate fuzz tones on UA-cam, they're entirely playing the wrong style of music.

Does a buffer affect this fuzz?
You just can NOT go wrong with these pedals. They sounds so very good !
WIsh it didnt kill all low end.

I was surprised to find this in stock at Sweetwater! Ordered my Fuzz before they disappear lol

What country is this pedal manufactured?
the radiohead riff at 1:27 is convincing me

Gibson's website?!

That's cool!!!
I have the original FZ-1A, which is also very attractive!
Sold!!!
Been waiting like two weeks to get this haha
Fire
Dig the Baldwin/vintage Epiphone Olympic-Coronet knobs...very cool! Viva La Fuzz!
That is a fuzz!!!!
First second sounded like heart attack man lol
Anyone put these up againat the original Maestro? Would love to see the dufference.
The Maestro reissue line is the pedal equivalent of _Been Away Too Long_ by Soundgarden!
If they are being made in Kalamazoo, MI or Lincolnwood, IL then perhaps. I suspect Gibson is not making them in the USA.
@@jefferypallo1950 Very well. My feeling is: regardless of where they're made, it doesn’t matter. Maestro pedals are back & we should all be thankful.

Germanium or silicon transistors?
I'm staying with Jim Dunlop they are the Vintage Reissue pedal Masters

Not an accident I’m sure, although I’m really curious!
No, it uses 6 surface-mount silicon transistors. Made in china with cheap parts.

Unfortunately, it’s not a sneak peek of a new model. It’s a Mesa/Boogie Fillmore.🤷♂️

excellent!!
Tech specs please - 3 x Germanium transistors?
Silicon for these ones, the custom shop will be germanium
Is the pedal wedge-shaped or is my wedge-shaped mind perceiving things that are incongruent with reality?
Ok but how about having the original oversized enclosures tho?
Nah

The problem isn’t that it doesn’t sound like an FZ1, the problem is that it sounds bad
I think it’s just demo’d badly. 90’s metal doesn’t work here. This guy can’t play the psychedelic Melodic fuzz licks this was meant for.

Bet you wish Gibson has never used the Maestro name for literal garbage guitars a few yrs back. That's what most people associate the name with.
