Great to see Gibson finally realizing they own this fantastic brand name! They’ve sold some horrific acoustics under it, but finally it’s back to pedals. These both sound and look awesome!
@@walterrizotto8668 I agree with you there and I have no issue with Montana Gibson acoustics (except prize maybe ahaha). But they’ve sold some horrific asians under the Meastro name. Maybe the best aspect of these is the artwork. They look like something you could hang on a wall, beautiful designs and well done to whoever is responsible for them.
I used to own the original phase shifter pedal. It had a large footprint, but these were the pre-pedalboard days. It was the only thing widely available back in the mid-70's that got you even close to the Hendrix and Trower Univibe sound. The fuzz pedal here sounds pretty cool.
@@bnightrider doubt that they would charge that much since they are only charging $150 to $160 for the current pedals. Most likely the phaser and other classic circuits will be coming if the demand is there.

@@Xavier-my8wg ... A great-sounding and historic fuzz, for sure. I have an original and one of the old ‘reissues’. But then, so what?!; a good sound is a good sound. The light-up logos on these pedals concern me, tho’; it’s a warning sign, when a product/line leans too heavily on logos/nostalgia, or flashing lights; and these are doing both … not to mention, the possibility of those lights introducing unwanted noise into the signal, etc. I’ve seen it all before: it’s not cynicism, it’s reality … and history doesn’t repeat, but it sure does rhyme …
The Invader Distortion actually sounds good! I’m pleasantly surprised. I expected the Fuzz Tone to be the best, but the Invader comes in at a close 2nd place for me!
Definitely hearing something unique that sets these pedals aside from the other pedal brands. Really surprised with the distortion pedal. Sounds incredible!
Chorus is easily the best of the five, some great flanging sounds in there as a bonus. Great sounding pedals but this is honestly a head-scratcher for me. "We're bringing back our iconic name with these pedals that we've never done before, but we're not going to bring back the ones that we are known for"? No phaser? No filter? Don't get me wrong these pedals sound great but they don't bring anything to the table that nobody else does, other than the Fuzz Tone. Love the aesthetic though, they look bad-ass! And thanks to Andy as always for the outstanding demos!
These look and sound good. Great playing from Andy as always. It took some Googling but I was finally able to determine that these are "Designed and Engineered in the U.S.A. Made in China" for anyone interested.
I had an Applause guitar that sounded horrible until it got soaked in a leaky trunk for a day. It sounded mostly better after that. Still glad I traded it off.
My main question would be “Can I use my wireless with the fuzz?” Most fuzzes sound horrible without a guitar being the first thing directly plugged into it. Now I better understand why they sent Mojohand a cease and desist letter on their “Mr O” phaser cosmetics. It’s too bad they didn’t back up that bark by releasing a phaser to fill that market like the Mr O did-and still does. It would be nice to see them release the modulation/filter circuits that they made famous, rather than rolling the dice on yet another $150 chorus and delay pedal(efx loop with trimpot mix would have been cool). As usual, Andys right on the job with his great demos
I'm still pissed that I can't get a Mister-O phaser I don't like the graphics on the new one at all .But I really wanted to put one on this new build cuz My mini phase that I got for a vintage board build sure ain't going out of the house : ) Why can't they just do reissues of the classics? Don't they realize how many more FZ-1 fuzz's they would sell or phasers then this Hideous attempt at recapturing the magic of there original pedals .You'll be able to find these on reverb for $50 in a few years .Hopefully they don't make very many so they'll be collectable lol.
Gibson was really smart to have Andy do a full high quality review. Nice to see they don't have the absurd over the top graphics catering to the bedroom noodler like other pedals.
For production purposes, I understand the reason for internal trim pots. But from a consumer end, it doesn't move me. I don't want to have to pull a pedal and unscrew the back to adjust mod and rate sensitivity (on the delay). They're integral to the versatility of the pedal. Andy did a great job on these, but the design leaves me cold, unfortunately. Put the controls on top or don't put them in. Just my opinion, YMMV.
No I took back one of those crazy analog delays with all the whacky controls for this because I just wanted something I can play a clean guitar with that does have a good sound for live or recording, and with somewhat an echoplex quality to it. Helps me keep focused but I appreciate the other types of more crazy and advanced delay units too. I think itthis one does the repeats very good and the modulation sounds nice to my ear. I like the vintage flair of these, they also seem to play well together. It's like we're going back further to the roots, time to re-imagine the wheel I suppose? But it wants songs not just noodling and turning knobs. That's what inspires me with this line I guess.
...so they're not actually reissuing any of Maestro's vintage designs, just a bunch of fairly generic modern designs under the Maestro name? Don't get me wrong, they sound good and look sharp but where's the Phase Shifter, Parametric Filter, Brassmaster, Boomerang, Filter Sample and Hold, and FZ-1S? I want the cool unique stuff that actually made Maestro, Maestro! That said, the new Comet Chorus _is_ pretty dope though
@@peteytwofinger That's not really the issue here. Surface mount components are functionally the same as through-hole components and it's perfectly possible to use them in analog circuits, which these pedals certainly are. And tubes have nothing to do with any of this, as none of Maestro's effects have ever had tubes besides the very early Echoplexes AFAIK. No, my issue is that rather than give us modernized reissues of their classic effects, many of which are highly sought-after, they instead gave us this fairly generic lineup of inoffensive staples that have nothing in common with the Maestro of old besides the logo.
This will be a phase 1 release. There will be another release. They are deliberately creating brand loyalty in new players here, finally using some of their massive brand power in a co/ordinated way, like Fender does.
Happy to see the brand resurrected but I was really hoping for accurate recreations of the cooler vintage stuff like the PS-1A Phase Shifter (for early Rush tones), the BG-2 Boomerang (classic “Shaft” wah), EP-3, etc.
Funny how people are losing their minds about $150 being too much, meanwhile I'm thinking $150? damn these are priced well! Maybe I've been buying too much Strymon and Eventide.
I feel the same way. I think $150 for these (good sound, great design) is pretty spot on. Not some kind of amazing deal, but they're far from overpriced imo.
Holy crap, will be buying the Fuzz pedal asap. What I AM upset about - is why they didn't create/update the Phaser?????? The original Maestro phaser is unbeatable IMO, to this day.
Yes, the Fuzz is a cool new offering. It's good to see Gibson do Maestro pedals again. I too, would have loved to see a Phaser in this lineup. I've never played the Maestro Phaser, but I have a Moogerfooger MF-103.

They made the first fuzztone with the FZ1, Echoplex, Boomerang wah, Rover mini rotating speaker and various phaser pedals and other guitar based effects. As far as the other pedals, just basic distortion pedals but the Comet is interesting but missing expression control. Nothing that special about the delay, it's pretty much their take on the MXR Carbon Copy.
Now this is WONDERFUL!!! But is a shame they didn't included a phaser, there's nothing most memorable than their 6 stage phasers from the 70's.
