  • I built this cattle panel greenhouse in the winter of 2021 and the main question I was asked....will it last??? We went through a very harsh KY winner and a spring/summer that brought tornadic winds and hurricane rains. Here is my official review of the DIY Cattle Panel Greenhouse.

I have done these cattle panel buildings to store hay, house my donkey and baby cows. I use pallets to anchor down along the walls and 1 end. I get my plastic [9 mil] from the big commercial growers. I love these quick build structures.

We built one just like this but we decided to use contractor plastic from the hardware store that was 6 mil also but it’s not made to be outside all the time. It dry rotted in just a few months and started falling apart. My advice is to go ahead and spend the extra money and get the actual greenhouse plastic. Thanks

Great video! Jennifer did good with the doll house! Raelynn looks so happy! That greenhouse has served you well. Good place too where you located it by the garage. The garage has made a little bit of a wind break for it too. Lots of activity in there over the summer lol. I think we will be near a light frost later this week. UGH UGH UGH not ready for winter. We need to clean ours out and get some onions and such planted!

My suggestion is to add chicken wire to the window, stapled on the outside of the frame. Attach your plastic on the inside, using grommets on the corners to tie down with string or tiny bungee cords to nails placed in the corner of the frame to stabilize during cold weather or rain. Hammer a thin piece of wood over the top with a wrap around it of the plastic so that it does not tear. Using nails on the top inside of the frame, you can then roll the plastic and have it held at the top!

You can also reinforced the inside where you have the plastic attached to the board. Furthermore you can reinforce the board on the outside of the greenhouse on both sides to reinforce the greenhouse so that it does not deteriorate over time, it maybe you can add another layer plastic at that time. Instead of rebuilding your updating.

How strong of winds were you getting? We are notorious for having 100+ winds in the winter as we are just below a canyon. I think we hit 115 to 125 just a few years ago. I really want to try this but worried it will just be a waste of time and money. Staked trampolines fly away like kites and I'd hate to see that happen with my greenhouse.

Would you have done a window greenhouse if you had that as an option? We just moved and they left lots of windows and 2x4s. I Don't have supplies for this without purchasing.

Have you done the High Tunnel conversion yet? I would love to see how you did it.
