Thanks for the very kind words about our hoop house. The polycarbonate panels allowed us a much more durable design that would withstand the hail, high UV, and snow loads at 8000' in the mountains of CO. I hope you and your viewers find it useful.

Well Alan, you started it here!! I went on UA-cam to find a simple Greenhouse that could be built simply. Yours popped up- I had built several shelters for animals with Cattle Panels and a tarp or other materials, however no greenhouse!
Sooo I watched your video multiple times and did my own thing... it took me 2 weeks and I had an awesome green house with sides that rolled up as well as chicken wire on the bottom to keep out other kritters. And two benches for my seedlings, etc... I absolutely loved it... I also got shade cloth and used that... then in April... tornadoes 🌪 hit... it only takes 1 small one to do massive damage!! We were blessed that the tornado hit our greenhouse and not our house... it twisted our greenhouse and ripped the plastic off... the studs i used was 4" off as well as the door.
Sooo this month we will be rebuilding it and putting it back in use... we also have used your basic design to build a HoopCoop and A Sheep pin, Goat Hoop House, a Dog HoopHouse and a Hay Hoop Hut.
We've planned to build a larger greenhouse that's raised 24" up, and are so excited about this. These are relatively inexpensive to build and sure do hold up to our crazy Texas weather!
I didn't realize you have plans, so I just purchased them for a young couple we are mentoring and teaching to grow your own food.
Thank you for sharing this... love the wisdom and knowledge you share.
    Blessings

Love it. I made a grow tunnel out of cattle panels this oast year and threw a blue shade cloth over the top third of it and it really did help keep my plants from burning up. I made my 3 panel in 2014, built it in my back yard before moving it closer to my garden after I prepared a spot for it. I used cheap landscape timbers for most parts because they were cheap. Had a windstorm within the first year or 2 try to cave in one side so I built in shelves on that side to push the side back out. It has served my well ever since serving to get plants started in the spring, keep greens going late into the fall and as storage of my tomato cages during the winter.

In addition to my mobile coop, I built one of these to use as a small 4 wheeler garage for my neighbor. He doesnt have a car and gets around our back woods holler everywhere on his 4 wheeler, which for years hes just covered with an old tarp of whatever he had.
So I built a 2 panel hoops garage, roughly 8x 7 and about 6.5 ft high. Besides parking his 4 wheeler to keep it out of the elements, he keeps a few other items handy such as his heavy coveralls and rain clothes, as well as a few pioneer tools such as shovel, axe and snow shovel where its handy to get to. Thanks for the design inspiration. It's so universal and adaptable for multiple uses.
My best friend is getting ready to build a small barn to keep some feed barrels, nails of hay and garden tools out in the woods near where he raises his pigs and chickens.

I love these Texas Prepper greenhouses! They stand up to the wind and heavy snow, and they are perfect for small backyard areas. We use ours to extend the season in Wyoming. We get it going as early as possible. We put ours on a foundation built with 4x6s to raise it up some, and I don't know if is necessary, but I put in a 2x4 ridge beam for snow. Haven't had any issues. We grow tomates and peppers in it, in wicking tubs, every season, and they do great. Bought the plans some years ago, and have them in a notebook. Have build several with friends.

I always wondered why we put clear polycarbonate corrugated roofing on our green houses then spend hundreds shading it. Home Depot sells 26 in. x 12 ft. Polycarbonate Corrugated Roof Panel in White for about $40. Also available is green and grey. Most young plants can't handle direct sunlight and extreme heat so starting with a colored panel could be just the ticket. I bought a harbor freight 10x12 from a friend then modified it. So I noticed that only a 12 X 8 side is really used. So I am looking into options. From the top, shed side down(roof) isn't used so I am going to put side paneling of somekind on all walls that are not letting in uswable sunliht. Was going to put wiggle wire and new green house plastic on the sunny side. But not I like the idea of Polycarbonate Sheet or sheets instead. @@BIGALTX yes they are and I been thinking about making a hoop house for years but just never could decide on best for me design. I don't usually do permanent because I like to be able to change it up as my areas evolve. I really like the idea of being on skids. It could still be secured by maybe drilling holes in skids and driving rebar with a bent top end so then when I want to move it I can just pull the rebar and hook it to the tractor and pull it to different location. I plan to remove the plastic during summer and put shade cloth over mine. I use a lot of shade cloth last couple years, I been just putting posts and coated clothesline wire to attach it over top of the plants but I been thinking about doing it with cattle panel hoop house. I don't like the elevated ones for myself but each to their own.

Thank you for sharing your design so many years ago. Your greenhouse was the inspiration for me to design my own mobile chicken coop. At the time, about 8 years ago, although you mentioned using it for a coop, I hadnt seen anyone else use it for that.
Do I built mine 8x12, using 3 panels long. Its 6' high in the center. But I also used cattle panels for the end walls and for doors, as well as an interior dividing wall so i have 2 compartments inside if I want to seperate the flock in 2.
I use a heavy duty tarp for a covering which I need to replace about every 2 or 3 years. I'm getting ready to replace with corrugated metal roofing soon.
All of the fixtures inside are attached to the walls and coop roof so nothing is on the ground, which makes moving it easier. The nest box is attached to the inside wall. Bulk feeders hang from the roof wires. I have plasson bell waters and 5 gallon buckets hanging also. Plus there is a long 2x4, oriented on edge which extends the length of the coop for roosting.
For the cattle panel end panels, I oriented them vertically and cut them a bit long so the cutoff wires ran Wild. Then I interlaced the long wires into the edge of the roofing and bent them around the edge of roof wire to interlock the wall and roof into a strong connection. Then cut out a hole for a door on each end and made a cattle panel door as well.
I move it about once per week by sliding four 2" PVC pipes, 10' long under it then pushing the coop on top of the pipes to it's new location 8' over. Although around 300+ lbs, my now 14 yo daughter can move it herself and has been doing so for about 6 years.
This is a phenomenal design and was totally inspired by the humble Texas Prepper2 Greenhouse video you published years ago. Thank you so much.

Thank you for the design. I'll just assume you are correct and the originator. I build a super deluxe one that is 10x20, and 3' lower sides, so it's about 7.5' in the middle. Rise beds down one side, hardware cloth surface shelves down the other, and a bench on the window end, to do potting and store all of our gardening stuff. Also storage under bottom plant starting shelves. Auto opener on the window. Permanent. I have two beams (2x4x10') down each side from door support to window support at the ceiling. It can't rock at all in wind or heavy snow loads (michigan).
I took everything I saw from dozens of videos. One other thing I did was put 5" thick crushed concrete on floor to act as a thermal mass heating. Reradiation. And did the vents on the bottom which was a cool idea I saw here.
The funny thing is, when I first starting to think about greenhouses a few years ago, there were only like 5 videos at that time showing this type of design. Last year I revisited before creating my exact design for it and there were dozens if not 100. I haven't even seen them all. The popularity of this design has exploded in the last 5 years. I don't have a youtube channel, but I might make a video of how nice this turned out, just to show you, and again thank your for the genesis of a whole concept. I just noticed my neighbor, who also homesteads, and now she has one too. Independently of each other, because my open area is buried in the woods out of sight. They also have a standard hoop house that's all crumpled from snow and discarded in their junk pile. That was the selling point for me is dealing with wind and snow and I didn't want to uncover it every year. It may be overkill, but my overhead joists are not only good for stability, but I can hang things from them for the plants to grow on, or electrical outlets, and water spigots. We got a bit fancy with this and it's somewhat of a she-shed for my wife.

@@BIGALTX I tried the clear on my bigger green house. Maybe got 3 years out of it. Recovered it with the white. The two smaller houses (white) have 5 and 6 years on them. Still not brittle. When using PVC pipe because of off gassing I cover the pipe with white duct tape. I initially used plastic on the ends, but later made them solid. Plants don't seem to mind the loss of light. I have a used storm door on my big house. I put vents in the back walls of all of them. I installed a misting system in the big house. Thus far all have been working pretty well. I have heat in one of the smaller houses.

Thanks SO much for this video, and all you've done to share this awesome idea with others. On shade... for anyone looking for alternatives to shade cloth, like, can't afford that but do have materials/woods on hand, ( and for whatever reason, moving it to under a tree isn't an option) I was thinking about a pergola. For the original height & length ones in particular, one could make a pergola, overhead trellis thing for a vine to grow on, which doesn't leaf out fully until hot weather OR you move to greenhouse to that location when u need to. I mainly want to use mine for seed starting and season extension, not really to grow in all summer, but obviously for many that's what they want. A word of caution on growing things in greenhouses when u don't really have to : Studies, cited by Paul Gautchi (of Back to Eden gardening fame) have shown that produce may not have the same nutritional benefits when grown under any sort of barrier between them and the sun, whether glass or plastic, even the best greenhouse plastics. He specified tomatoes, saying that ones grown out in the sun have a thing in them - in their skins- which, when eaten/absorbed by people, helps protect us against skin cancer. One's in a greenhouse - I'm assuming that was the only difference...??- had little to none of it. So, for me, just another piece of evidence on why to grow as God intended, whenever possible :).
But I do want to make use of season extension for things which then can't be moved, and in my smaller, fenced-in garden ( I'm renting...) it won't be easy to move my hoophouse over these later, so I'm gunna go for early cantaloupe and cucumbers by trellising em in there this spring. God willing. Am finishing our build today :) !!! And my pots of Petit Gris de Rennes cantaloupe & Armenian pale green cucumber are up ! ( haven't had either variety b4, and I normally HIGHLY prefer pickling cukes to eat/snack on all summer, but wanted to try these, mainly for my husband and for sale.

I have seen others claim this is their design, and I got a laugh out of that. Most of us know you as the King of the cattle panel greenhouse! (-: If you update your plan using a refined design from Bearly Homsesteating I would gladly buy that plan from you as well, just like I bought the first pan... If you make an updated plan please include the nice vents at the ends as shown here in some of the options - love that. And with the Bearly Homesteading plan the roof plastic should come down on the "outside" of the wall so there isn't a space there for water to get in and rot etc.. Since there is already a plan for a two-panel greenhouse maybe you could update this plan to be 3 panels with the 24" sidewall - which should give a couple more feet in width and still be small enough to pull around on skids... Incorporating a little overhang on each end as well would help with water getting into the corners, even just a few inches of overhang on the corrugated plastic would be great. - Something I saw a while back was a simple little set of wheels that you could lift up one end of the greenhouse and bolt on a wheel to each of two corners so you could live the other end up with an ATV, tractor, or whatever you had and pull it on those temporary wheels. Looking forward to buying the plans for version two from you! Thanks for the effort you put into this - it has really kicked off a little culture of its own!
