I love my Sable. As a truck driver, I’m in very extreme temp swings. It is rock solid and never lets me down. I’m hoping that McPherson will build an all carbon electric solid body so I can have the best of both worlds. Top quality and as close to perfection as you can get. I toured the factory in Sparta during my travels and bought mine straight from the production floor. I didn’t know it but they also Plek every guitar. I can’t say enough good about McPherson as a company. Thanks for the cool review.
Glad you mentioned that because I am becoming an OTR Truck driver as we speak and I really want a full size acoustic that I can bring along with me without having to worry about the temp/humidity and pressure changes sending it out of whack.
Chuck Taylor I have an all carbon fiber electric guitar from composite acoustics called the blade. It has duncan 59 in the neck and Duncan JB in the bridge. Would you be interested in it?
I've learned the full sized LR bags Anthem WILL fit into the McPherson Sable sound hole; just further toward the fret board of the guitar in the sound hole. I hope this comment helps in your decision to install the LR Baggs full sized anthem in your Sable if you ever decide to buy one! :)
If you can, play a Breedlove Oregon all Myrtlewood guitar. One of the best sounding guitars I’ve ever played. Extremely well balanced just like this one. Plus it’s a gorgeous wood.
Jon Moody I have several dreadnought Breedlove Oregon guitars as well. Definitely nice guitars. I can honestly say in a head to head comparison I like the sound and tone on the Sable better.
I bought a Sable a couple of years ago. Absolutely love it! I play it plugged in at church and it's the most beautiful sounding guitar I've ever played and I've owned some really good Taylor's, Fenders, Breedloves, etc. Doesn't sound as good as my Taylor 510 did unplugged but it's not far off. Plugged in, the best I've ever heard. Always in tune. Rings out (sustains) forever. Perfect amount of Bass, mids and trebs. Don't have to worry about being as careful with it because it's a tank. I think it's the Honda Accord of gigging guitars. I'd consider an Emerald guitar too and think they look killer but for Emerald fanboys who badmouth the McPherson, you just don't have a clue.
Love these new modern guitar reviews! On the electric side, you guys should try to get hands on the new PRS SE line of guitars - maybe a custom 24. They look so nice and seem to be so versatile for worship music!
What a great review- best review of the Sable I've seen yet! I just bought a Sable last November (2018) and I completely agree with your review-- what a super balanced pretty sounding guitar! That new Mic you have really captures the richness of it! (Would love to know what mic that is :-). I have a high end Breedlove that was made in 2003 that's a rosewood/spruce beauty, yet I've found myself preferring the Sable at church every week when I lead. More balanced. Regarding the pickup, McPherson recommended I stay with their custom eq'd lr baggs element (though your Anthem SL seems to sound great). After my sound guy tweaked the eq from the board it sounded nearly as full/warm/clear as the Anthem SL in my Breedlove.
Thanks! I'm still getting to know the new mic (well I have two - the Slate in this video and the new Earthworks vocal mic). I'll probably do a video on them soon.
@@worshiptutorials I got the VMS ML1 a while ago, but haven't gotten around to it as much as I'd like. Would love to hear your thoughts and applications as I haven't spent nearly enough time with it just yet. I also was curious if you've had any experience with their ML2?
Compare it to a Martin D35, youngins. About the same price. Get a grip, maybe! But hey, it is what it is, and it has certainly caught my attention. Won’t be as afraid to leave it on the stand 24/7 instead of in the case like most all of my other guitars. Makes a difference. Thanks for sharing!
Yip, that guitar has everything you want in acoustic sound. There are so many amazing makes coming out now. I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio and I love it but there are brands coming along that are far better than Gibson or Fender. Great video guys. :-)
Have you noticed if you strum a chord and then move your right arm back and forth the sound changes? It sounds like comb filtering. I think the top reacts to your strumming hand. I’m wondering if this is with all Sable guitars or if mine has an issue with the top or a brace.
Hey Joshua - I don't have a ton of experience with Taylor's, but from what I know they have a really shimmery top end. The McPherson is more balanced overall, so it will have more midrange and low end response while retaining the top end, which is a little different than what I've experienced from Taylor.
Hey Brian Wahl, you had a LR Baggs SL put in. Any chance you could plug in and give us a listen? Just received my Sable with the Element and thought to compare the two. Thanks!
I have a wood Mcpherson and some really nice other acoustics from Breedlove and Takamine as well as carbon fiber Composite Acoustics. Do you think the Sable could be my recording guitar in the studio? You stated there are worship albums with this as the guitar. Can I hear those songs? I'm very interested in a Sable if it will rival great wood acoustics in the studio. Would it be possible to record with just one good mic?
Comparing this with a Rainsong H-WS, tiring to figure out how this compares both in terms of overall sound a volume. This sounds lovely, just not sure it projects the same. Any thoughts?
andy bosik thank you! Do you feel the Sable projects as well as the 810? I play with guys who play dreadnoughts, and want to make sure I don’t get totally drowned out.
I'm curious about how resonant it is during a live worship; for that matter, I'm wondering if you've used it for a worship set. Any issues with feedback and/or that glossy face reflecting tons of light into the congregation?
I tried my best to make what you hear in the video sound like what the guitar is like in the room next to it. The microphone you use (most mics have EQ responses baked in due to the capsule and circuitry), placement (where you place the mic relative to the guitar has a huge effect on low end response), and a million other things will affect how a recorded signal sounds, and it's never going to reproduce the actual sound of the guitar exaclty. For this video I used EQ and compression mainly.
Not going to lie, I like the tone I'm hearing with this guitar. Now, would I ever buy one? ehhh, if I had the money maybe. I'm currently saving up for an electric and a line 6 helix, so any type of new acoustic guitar gets put on the back burner right now lol
Love your video's..... I have a McPherson Sable also.....it's a phenomenal guitar, (the player, not so much...lol) . I tried a 12 string guitar, and found that it's easier for me to play ,because my fingers are more like gorilla paws than human, and so now I've decided to sell my beloved Sable, so if you know anyone interested in one, let me know. I dedicated the guitar to be used for worship, and would like to see it go to someone who will carry on that vision. The price will be significantly lower than new,( the guitar is in mint condition...exactly as when it arrived) . Thanks again, and keep up the good work, I learn a lot from your channel, and recommend it to others. God bless.
I have a custom McPherson koa/Adirondak and really want one of these, so I can take it camping, etc. At this link, ua-cam.com/video/-1PBzYF8Pc4/v-deo.html, at 31:50 Matt is about to start on my headstock inlay. He shows the design I sent him. Here are some photos of the finished guitar - www.mammothrecording.com/McPherson-2312.htm
If one hadn’t already heard the regular McPhersons so much, you wouldn’t notice as much how much the magical high harmonics are absent in the carbon version. It’s like everything over 6k hz is gone. But it’s not a studio guitar, that’s probably just fine. It does sound good, but the wood McPhersons aren’t just good guitars- they are the guitar that redefined what an acoustic was capable of, sonically. So it’s hopeless really to compare to wood version. And given the pricing if the carbon models, it becomes a compelling choice for any use where it’s worth gaining robustness and stability and that last ounce of tone isn’t worth trading for.
pure crap get the real thing Emerald guitars from the old country these are toys. they have done demos with the emerald verses thes the Emerald wins every time. dont wast your cash
I have an Emerald guitar (Virtuo). It's pretty awesome. Have you played a McPherson Sable? Because I guarantee you beyond a shadow of a doubt, it is not 'pure crap', haha. Quite the opposite.

Thanks! The mic is a Slate Virtual Mic. I can’t remember which emulation I was using off the top of my head though.
Can you do a comparison video with the Martins that you have?
Beautiful sounding guitar! I'm digging the new mic too, when will we see a review on it? Or did you already?

How do ya'll think this compares with Rainsong's attempt at carbon fiber guitars?
We’ve never tried a Rainsong.
I think it sounds more wood-like; warmer than a rainsong.
Awesome guitar. Awesome company with great integrity and morals. Thought you were playing some STP at the intro! 😜
Wish so badly these would come in different colors like the Emerald guitars do.
Compare it to a Martin D35, youngins. About the same price. Get a grip, maybe!

Sounds great - what was the piezo/mic balance on the Baggs Anthem section? Thank you.
Thanks! I’d say I have it set about 90% toward the mic.

whats the chord progression/tab for the first demo (start of the video)? or is it a song?
Is it "Daughters" by John Mayer?
In terms of brightness and tone, how similar is this guitar to the tone of a mid-tier Taylor?
Hey Joshua - I don't have a ton of experience with Taylor's, but from what I know they have a really shimmery top end. The McPherson is more balanced overall, so it will have more midrange and low end response while retaining the top end, which is a little different than what I've experienced from Taylor.

Made right here in Wisconsin out of all places
What gauge of strings do you use on your sable? Mine came with mediums but I’m thinking of switching to light gauge.
andy bosik thank you. I’ll likely switch to lights on my Sable.
Celticsaint777 Without a truss rod, I’m wondering if the action will change at all when string gauge is changed; and if so, what can be done about it.
Shawn Adams the saddle for higher action woukd be used. All mcphersons come with two custom cut saddles. One fir low action and one for higher action.
Celticsaint777 Nice! That is awesome, thank you.
So how do you maintain this guitar? Particularly, the fretboard?
You really don't have to do anything. The fretboard is carbon fiber as well. If it gets anything on it you can just wipe it off with a damp cloth.
Brian, they didn't send you a 3/4 size guitar, did they? I'm looking at the 3/4 scale one.
Yeah we do have a demo of the smaller one as well.

Please a guitar tutorial of "sinner saved by grace"
Would you guys mind creating a Helix Patch for the McPherson Sable? (I'd definitely buy it!).
The Acoustic patch should work perfect with it :)
@@worshiptutorials Cool! I'll go grab that right now...thanks for your ministry!
IT SOUNDS SO GOOD!!! But it's so expensive 😭 great review guys. I watch a lot of your videos learning worship songs
Only for people with 💰
What gauge strings were you using on that video? thanks
Please! Up tutorials with LINE 6 POD HD 500X PRESETS :( NICE WORK BROTHERS!
I'm curious about how resonant it is during a live worship; for that matter, I'm wondering if you've used it for a worship set. Any issues with feedback and/or that glossy face reflecting tons of light into the congregation?
I bet you can retrieve your pick when you drop it in the soundhole easier with it being near a edge also. That would make a GREAT live review. 😉🤓
Did you boost or cut anything when mixing the guitars audio ?
I tried my best to make what you hear in the video sound like what the guitar is like in the room next to it. You can get a really good electric and a Helix LT for the price of a Helix Floor and it’s amazing how good it sounds for under 1500 total
The top end sounds thin to me

strange so metal resonator guitars . . . and now carbon fiber . . . tonewise that mcpherson nailed the acoustic g sound . . .

Toooooo expensive!!!!!!!!
Awesome guitar for $3,299 Lololol
Firsttt
Muted bass
Not a fan, it sounds like plastic.. and but maybe its my 64 iems.. but don't like the sound, I prefer the wood guitar..
Real guitars are made out of wood.
Despite what you think, this is not a make believe guitar.
OK
It's so ugly.
Only wood for acoustic guitars. Synthetic materials will never match the warmth character of wood.
