    Ok, Darrell Braun. Based largely on your review, I bought one. This is the best playing and sounding guitar I have ever owned and I have several at varying price points. It plays way above it's price point. It is so responsive and consistent. I hate to gush, but man, this guitar sounds great without the onboard effects and the effects are great! My favorite setting is about 70% chorus with about 50% room reverb with the volume at about 80%. Huge clear tones. I ordered from the Enya website on Monday and got it on Thursday, so fast shipping as well. I don't know how long the battery lasts because I charged it yesterday and I have been playing constantly for most of the day. The neck is chunkier than I expected, but it is very comfortable. My new favorite guitar.

    Cool design. The front is gorgeous. Frankly, it looks to me like a squared-off Ovation (I have an Ovation T-357 "Tangent"), without the tuner, and you're right - it should have a tuner built-in. I had a Lava Me2, but it wasn't adjustable enough to intonate properly. This one looks better in that regard. I'm not a fan of gold hardware, so that's another minus, but I like onboard effects, and a USB connection to recharge the battery that powers the effects is a big plus over having to replace expensive 9V batteries periodically. I also like the elevated fretboard to allow the top to resonate more. This is definitely one to keep in mind.

    • @shermanballz
      @shermanballz 2 роки тому

      Unfortunately the top is very thick, so I don't think the cantilever neck here helps a lot, but it's still cool. Wish we'd see it more guitars (because I can't afford a McPherson)
      I actually have an older Ovation Elite TX with a little crack in the top, and I bought a transacoustic system like this for it. But I'm not sure I'll ever install it because It'll really suck if I screw up and wreck that guitar 😁

    I bought mine 15 months ago and I love it. I wanted a carbon fiber for a few years having tried some in Nashville at 3 to 4 times the price. It came in an awesome hardcase and 2 leather straps. It stays in tune no matter what. I lowered the action and put lighter gauge strings, It came with 13s, it was very bassy (too bassy) with those strings, with the lighter gauge it sounds perfect to me. Before purchasing I went through all the reviews and every UA-cam video I could find and I am very satisfied. Mine has more the carbon fiber look on top, not the honeycomb which I find looks even nicer and the back and sides has a glossy finish not matte. I added brass pins and it has a really good sustain. The markers on the knobs are hard to see, so I scratched a line on top of the knobs which gives a better indication of the levels. I forgot to mention thet the neck is not fixed to the top of the body, I think it proovides a better vibration of top. Oh well ! Thank you for your review 😊

    I owned one of these a couple years ago. Sent it back for intonation issues, but I don't think that's a common problem. But keep in mind that they do not indicate the percentage of carbon fiber in the body (for obvious reasons). I've read that this injection molding is usually only 2-3% carbon fiber. That's why it feels like plastic and why you shouldn't expect it to have the strength of other CF guitars. The back and sides feel rather flimsy, deforming with pressure. So don't get this if you want a "lifetime" guitar. Similarly, I was told that replacing the battery in the preamp requires service by Enya. How long will that battery last?
    And it's common is for them to tweak their design. The one I bought when they just came out was already slightly different than the advertisement, and since then they've changed many things including the top weave, no more vine inlay, usbc charging, gold soundhole instead of rainbow... Point is, expect this thing to keep changing.

    • @mickdebergerac1143
      @mickdebergerac1143 2 роки тому +5

      Given the points you have made, how do they justify the price?

    • @shermanballz
      @shermanballz 2 роки тому +7

      @@mickdebergerac1143 Well, it's still inexpensive for carbon fiber, and the top is like 95% (I think this number has changed). It comes with a hard case and the transacoustic system, so I figure that's like $250 value. I agree: it's a little pricey for what you end up with. But the nearest CF alternative is Journey or Klos which will both run you over $1200 for full carbon, and neither are full sized. Then again, their collapsible nature is a point the X4 can't match...

      Makes my old Ovation wood top, round back of 35 years, seem a bit outdated. It still is like new to me every time I get it out. Hate the "thru the hole battery change but......still sounds amazing with minor pedals.

      @shermanballz 2 роки тому +2

      @@markcunningham6086 Nice. I also own an Ovation of about that age, although I got it second hand with a huge split in the top. Nonetheless it sounds and plays wonderfully. I currently own a beautiful German made acoustic guitar that I plan to keep for the rest of my life. However I live in the US north east and it's still pretty cold (I can only imagine what Canadian weather does to an all solid wood acoustic). So my guitar lives in it's case with a humidifier. It's times like this where a carbon fiber guitar propped on a stand in the corner of the room for easy access when inspiration hits would be nice. At this price point...hmmm... Tempting. The quality of that sound is pretty important to a lot of people that would use a Carbon fiber guitar, i.e. some stage playing but not necessarily on a pro level. i.e. I have a very nice Larrivee I don't want to take to gigs. While I don't expect this to sound the same as the Larrivee, a decent PA sound could make the difference between buying it and not.

    I think you can tune the acoustic sound with strings. Warmer sounding strings for sure. Would be interresting to hear that on this channel - you have quality sound. Maybe Labella Silk & and Steel (great strings), Martin Retro or John Pearce archtop acoustic nickel strings. Thanks for the review!

    I am really impressed with these. Lava ME guitars are also affordable Carbon fiber. I wonder what the initial setup is like? If they run them through the Plek machine, set the action, and intonate it, you'll have a keeper guitar for life. Only thing you would need to worry about is the electronics going bad. Which is probably not going be a big worry for many people.

    The back and sides are probably made of a similar material used on Ovation guitars.

    guess it's kinda to late now to have you review what you thought of the neck... its finish, width and/or the fret ends and fret finish (surface)... As always, love your reviews!! Blessings!

    I love low maintenance guitars. Lol I’ve wanted one of these but haven’t found much use for an acoustic yet, but when I do I’ll highly consider this one.

    This sounded amazing to me (clean with no effects). My cheap-ass acohostic is making me feel a bit sad right now 😂 I almost never play it though so never have been able to justify spending on something nicer. Something like this though, with the durable carbon construction, actuator and built in effects, I might be tempted to pick up enough to actually consider. Great review.

    I was looking for a backup acoustic for my Taylor 410 and found a Lava ME 2 carbon fiber with effects which immediately became my wintertime guitar... but you couldn't easily adjust the neck. Otherwise they are pristine sounding concert level acoustics.
    The Enya EA X4 was $899 new - but I've just found them reduced to $599 and figure its time to move on it! The necks come high at the body join, so I'll probably have to shim it up from the inside of the box.

    How does the tone control effect the effects? All these guitars with actuators have so bright sounding effects. Would much rather have a warm background reverb than reverb from a room with tiles all over. Anyway, great channel.

    I may have missed it but did you spend any time setting the guitar up as well as changing the strings? I've read that out of the box it could benefit from both.

    Very nice. Recording DIRECT, via the Preamp/Effects, as well as a Nice Mic picking up the Soundhole, and Mixed like Different Takes/Guitars could Reward you with some INTERESTING TONAL QUALITIES. I'd Like to See a LEFTY, OFFERING and Perhaps Blue and Green Transparent Top?? Just some Thoughts. I really want some EMERALD GUITARS, one day.

    I have the same e system on my Kepma Elite GA1 130 (which is another incredible guitar for its price point-hint, hint (review?)). I had to get a superfine white paint pen to put small dots on the top so I could see where the settings were. It turned out subtle, attractive and visible.

    thanks for showing it off . . . in surfboard construction fiberglass comes in 3 flavors the usual weave, the chopped mat (looks like asbestos sheets or fine steel wool), and veiled mat coarse looped mat, so carbon fiber comes in those flavors. Resin soaked and dried chopped mat and veiled mat can be molded / shaped and once dry with resin can be sanded, then buffed to matte get that plastic look or fine sanded / buffed to shine and polished to get a gloss . . . the back is probably chopped mat as its cheaper than weave and has that plastic look. Then again they could get the low % carbon fiber plastic and say back n sides is carbon but in reality its more plastic. Ppl swap out nuts cuz its plastic . . . Also based off the way it sounds it's not tone engineered . . . like a mcpherson carbon . . . The non amplied tone, I don't like, the efx makes it a tad better . . . but compared to a mcpherson tone (toan? ) this is like go cart and the mcpherson is a mclaren. or aircraft, this would be Spad (not A-1 the WW I one) and the mcpherson is a like a F-22 raptor. Again thanks for the demo

    Sounds very bright w/o the effects. How did the bass sound to you in the room ? Very intrigued. Like you I’m in Canada and looking for something that can ‘just work’ in the seasons we experience here. Price $1190.00 Canadian with a hard shell case is pretty good. Case would be a good 190.00 value. Do you know any stores that carry in Canada?

    I'm definitely a "tonewood matters" guy for acoustics (makes zero difference for electrics), but these carbon fiber beasts tell me that the strings are doing most of the heavy lifting to get that acoustic sound. This sounds great!

    • @markvincentcocjin
      @markvincentcocjin 2 роки тому +1

      The tonewood in this case is the carbon fiber panel. All the electronics do, with the exception of the inside microphone, is to work off the guitar body's resonance.

    • @falcongunner33
      @falcongunner33 2 роки тому +1

      @Timdoeswork Sure, but what I'm trying to say is that this carbon fiber guitar sounds very similar to a traditional wooden acoustic guitar, despite the two materials being very different.

    • @transmundanemusic
      @transmundanemusic 2 роки тому

      Wood absolutely matters on an electric guitar, people need to stop talking in absolutes. Electronics are easily the biggest factor but saying wood has no effect is a bit ignorant. The wood and construction directly impacts the vibrations of the strings, hence influencing how the vibrations interact with the magnetic field. Wood is a small part of an electrics tone, maybe under 10%, but it still plays a part.
      It of course plays a bigger role in acoustics. I think the problem is people believing certain woods are a must, which just isn't the case. There's a wide array of materials, many of which we prob haven't used yet, that can create wonderful tones, and there's a myriad of other factors that likely play a bigger role in either acoustic or electric builds i.e. scale length, pickup placement, strings, nut material, bridge, tuning keys etc.
