Just a word of advice, I dont suggest going to a bigger diameter sway bar on these Fairlanes or Mustangs using the stock lower control arms. These arms are tiny and I've seen these stiffer sway bars pull the link bolts right through the control arm, plus make sure your frame section where the sway bar mounts is not rusty. They rust from the inside out. Also seen these mounting bolts pull out of the frame because the bigger sway bars are so stiff. Just some FYI!!
That’s talent and craftsmanship! Love the old Fairlanes.
Thanks Andrew, pretty satisfied with how it all turned out👌
Congrats on the job, great to see a car being well taken care of.
Thank you, shes in good hands!
@@Theoldcarchannel. i did not even meat Jacob in person yet but tolking to him on Instagram he is a cool person
Wow, beautiful job on the '64 Fairlane frame repair. Looks like OE.
Thank you, that’s always the goal! Factory or better than factory👍
You done a great job of making that panel. I bet your Dad is so proud of you. Keep up the good work 👍👍.
Thanks Danny, yes he is!
FWIW I really enjoy watching this type of work. I enjoy doing it a little less but the reward of doing it right is usually worth it. Something cathartic about watching someone else do it. Nice work.
Excellent work, Mike. Looking forward to seeing more on the Fairlane.
Thank you, there will be lots more to come!
Finally got a chance to finish watching your video. What a GREAT JOB you did on your frame repair. I remember those days of doing all that Fab work in my younger days. Still got 1 more 64 Fairlane that I need to do all that same repair myself. After watching you do this has got me pumped to do mine one last time. Thanks for the encouragement, been putting it off to long. Keep up the Great work and I'll be following you along on your progress.
Thanks again, Brother.
Beautiful job. Boy got mad skills
Haha Thank you 😎👍
New to your channel. Your work is impressive. Appreciate the detail and your patience.
Thanks for the good old car content.
Great fab work Mike ! The Fairlane should be a first class driver when you are done! Keep up the good work !
I have always been so upset about the rusty floors on my 63 Comet UNITL I watched this video. 😁 You boys did a lot to get this thing to Power Tour. Nice work!
Enjoyed watching your metal repair. I like that you took the time to get it as close to factory as possible.
Thanks for watching, that’s always the goal… or better than factory
Hello friend I love seeing some one doing original rebuild rather than whacking it all out and mustang 11front suspension, the strut support you built looks great,l give it a 100,I'm old school 70 years young, still have mustangs, early 65 and 05 gt,Thanks for sharing the video.
That is some nice work you did. I love that car.
Thank you, happy with how she’s turning out
Wow, what a lot of work fabricating those pieces, making templates from pieces that are partly missing. You did a fine job sir. Most people would give up.
I have to say this is the best video I've seen. You are truly an artist and a craftsman. No one really deals with total re-man and welding like You've done. Excellent camera work. You've given us armchair mechanics a real treat!
Well thank you very much for that amazing comment! Truly means a lot! I take pride in what I do trying to revive these old cars and get them back on the road, but welding is also my career… so when the opportunity arises I enjoy sharing it with everyone! Was a fun project, took longer than I wanted but happy with the end result!
Impressive work
Awesome job fixing the rust 👍
Thanks Don, still a bit more to go with the floors and trunk lip but… one thing at a time👍
Awesome that you do this reconstruction work. You may feel it's not worth the work but it certainly is with such rare and virtually unatainable cars like the 64 Fairlanle's, Falcon's and Galaxie's. Thanks for putting in the extra time to save the one and if you can, the other one as well. Truly worth while doing so. :-)
Outstanding,,nice metal work,,,I look forward to more of your restoration work
Super sympa, et très intéressant, good job 👍
You did hell of a job on that bracket... looks good.
Beautiful job fabbing up the replacement parts!!!
Great Job on the frame rebuild. Love the craftsmanship. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks Mark 👍
Very nice fab work. My thoughts about rust from SE US cars - in that era there were a large number of dirt roads. Add rain. Make mud. And you see the end result even if there were drain holes. Also - I howl at your dad's off screen commenting. It's 10X funnier just hearing it off to the side. LOL
Thanks John👍 The car was originally from Georgia, so anything is possible!
Haha he’s definitely a character 😂
Great fabrication skills! Love the channel
Thanks Hank, much appreciated!
you have great fabrication skills, well done!
Outstanding fabrication!
Much appreciated, I enjoy the fabrication side of things!
Rust repair was fantastic!! Doing great, man!! Car is gonna be SWEET!!
Fantastic work Mike (and dad) Glad to see it all cleaned up 😎
Tubular control arms upper and lower with rack and pinion steering. The only way to go. I put a hefty Adco sway bar on the rear axle of my 1967 Fairlane GTA. I have always been a Fairlane/Torino guy even though I have owned six mustangs and still have a 98. My very first car was a 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7.
Looking at possibly running tubular control arms. Rack on the other hand isn’t happening.
How do you like the sway bar?
That came out amazing!
Thank you 👍
Definitely Canadian CAD design! Cardboard aided design! ROFL. From one Canadian to another, keep up the great work. Cheers from Alberta. Working on replacing the floors and toeboards on my 63 f100. Hope to take the long haul kn power tour this summer. 👍👍🙂🙂
Great to meet y’all at beech bend. 🤘🏼
Great Fabrication 👍 on that 64 Fairlane
Nice work eh! The thumbnail for a 64 Fairlane caught my eye. Nice to see fellow Canadians working on Fords (ignoring the Bird and Dart).
Very clean work. Good stuff.
Impressive fabrication work. The car will be right.
You guys went BEAST MODE! FACT-TREE, Love it.
Pretty work. 👍
Thank you 👍
Great looking brackets. Haven't seen anyone else on UA-cam using a spot welder. That just says "Factory".
Thank you, and yes we’re all about that factory look here👍 costly but worth it in the long run
That metal work is awesome!
Awesome work on repair.
😁😁👍👍 awesome job on the rust repair.
Awesome fab skills, you made it look easy.
Great fab work! Keep keeping it clean.😅
Thank you, that area will be blown out quite often now 🤣
I hope you painted the inside of the the repairs. Eastman sells a product that has a long hose to paint the inside of frame rails and hard to reach areas. Your fabricating skills are amazing!
Yes all painted/weld thru primed
Thank you, much appreciated
Hey it's Anthony in S Florida. That is some work! Come back down and square my Mustang away 🙂
Yeah I feel the same way about those damn F-350 coil springs. LMFAO 😆😆 Your dad's funny as hell.
Well done!
Thank you 🙂
Awesome job!!
Thanks Wayne👍
Very fancy work
Looks exactly like the factory did it . Fantastic !
Nice job with the fabrication!
Great work on the frame repairs. Looks mint. Been a lot warmer in Ontario the past couple of days, for late February/early March anyways. Looks like that will continue for a bit too. Look forward to seeing more work on the old Fairlane. Be safe and stay well.
Nice job Mike awsome fab work buddy 👌🏾
Great work, Mike. Very professional job. Congratulations!
love this! great quality guys111
Very nice work there.
This was cool. Thanks for the video.
Great job on this!
Great work!
Nice job on the blue car
This is the blue one, black one is for a later date👍
Did a fantastic job man 😁👌👌
nice job you saved it now lets see if Bryce can save his
Still lots more to do on it, but thank you! I’m sure he’ll do great👍
Well..I think you've deserved a beer!
Nice job 👍
Thank you👍
I just acquired a 64 fairlane, and I am fortunate to find that it's a very solid car. However, one of the previous owners had installed adjustable coil spring spacers that had to be cut out before I could put the right springs in the car (it has a 429 in it, and the springs were for a small block). I used a different spring compressor (jaws at the bottom and a fork at the top). It was still dicey, and one of the springs got away from me once. Fortunately, the compressor wasn't compressed more than a few turns with a hand ratchet. Death spring, indeed. :)
NICE JOB!!!!
Nice!
Some advice for rust repair. If you have parts that have a light surface rust that's not horribly rotten.
Buy some rust cutter, it's a rust converter that will convert the rust to iron phosphate. It's a good way to help prevent surface rust from becoming cancer, prep the surface, spray on some rust cutter, and you'll be left with a good surface to primer and paint.
Awesome job
Fritzee would be proud of you.
Nice job😊
Really nice work. A lot of us would have looked for junkyard parts to weld in here on the West Coast. But that might not have been an easy find for you guys.
Yeah… next to impossible to fix a sold car in a junkyard up here
But thank you, happy with the end result
@@Theoldcarchannel. is you and bryce going to ever do a live video together
@@laurafoisey4121 we were thinking of doing one yesterday but I had issues with my video so maybe next weekend
@@Theoldcarchannel. cool i will be in the chat
Whenever I do metal repair/replacement like this I always use a weld through primer on the inside to protect the new steel. It's cheap insurance, especially if you're keeping the car.
Everything was painted internally before closing off the panel (ie frame section). The last piece would’ve received WTP. As for the spots that were spot welded, those too were sprayed with WTP
Nice job
nice work
Oh man, I wish I could learn how to TIG weld!
Good.job 😄😄👍👍👏👏👏cool ❤
@Theoldcarchannel. Senpai, many questions. What gauge+type sheet metal, what size rod/wire, do you think TIG is better on sheet metal repair involving deteriorated metal versus MIG, what advice would you give someone trying to save one of these cars from a slow rusty death who's not experienced with sheet metal but 3/16 - 1/2 inch plate, and lastly how would you handle structural deterioration, have you ever used pieces from Autokrafter? Imma go watch the rest of your videos now......
Came across your channel today, hoping you just work on the older car's. If so I will be subscribing soon.
Haha anything old, but yes 99% old classic cars.
Nice old Ford.
your cardboard cut out skills would put any grade 3 kid to shame .
When they said about Lowering the Car ? I'm done !!! I've never Lowered a Vehicle of any kind in my Life ... I prefer Stock stance .. maybe a little lift from Airshocks so the Tires don't rub.. That's it.
And besides I Owned a 64 Fairlane XL in the 1970s, Cragers, Gabriel Hijackers, a four Barrel intake and carb and Headers with Duel Exhaust That's all mine needed....
The cleaning is totally awesome. But it’s your car so your choice.
Minus 13 Freedoms, very funny 😂😂
I have the exact same car and have the suspension out of it right now. I'm getting ready to put it together soon and was wondering what your thoughts were on reinstalling the upper control arms to get them close to the correct castor. Any information would be appreciated seeing as I'm on my first classic car and learning as I go.
Nice fab skills. What mig do you use?
Thank you, my mig is a 210 mp Lincoln. The Tig is a 255ext everlast
👍
😎👍
Where you buy the parts from?
Will pull hell off the hinges
Dude don't forget the other car the rusty white one
Hahaha I won’t 👍
i had a 64
Forgot to ask, is yours a Real K-code car?
When/why did you change the name of your channel? I wondered where you went.
More open to building any classic car. The Classic mustangs 429 just seemed to focus on mustang stuff (didn’t make sense to build my firebird on a channel that sounds orientated towards mustangs)
Also the change happened last year
That's a gas ratchet, they work every time
Knowing that it didn't have a drain hole in the upper control arm did you drill a hole in it to fix the factory stupidity of not having one in the first place?
For the amount of rain this car will see for the rest of its life plus a good coat of paint, I didn’t drill a hole. Also my suspension set up is going to be different than the factory
Not arts and crafts it is cardboard cad
Hey Mike. I'm surprised you didn't coat or paint all the new work where you enclosed and boxed in areas like the rad support. You took the time elsewhere.
Hello, I did, just didn’t show it on camera. Any pieces that was spot welded was weld thru primered, and the “tube/hallow” sections were primed and painted
