I did that whole , North east tour that year. Snow in Portland on , April Fools day, , rocking in Springfield, Mass, , 3 days on Long Island, I almost got busted , but ended up with my picture on the front page of the " Long Island Register :20,000 hits of paper in my Yurgo. In front of my tent. From Canada.

My first show. At the time I liked the Dead but wasn't really into them. Well, you know how people say they never really "got" the whole Dead thing until they saw their first show? My friend was telling me this on the train out from NYC and I was like, "What? That's total crap. It's just a concert." Five minutes into the show I realized how wrong I was. And I was never so happy to be wrong about something.

Thank you so much voodoo,i love you! I had no idea that i would be able to see and experience these shows again. I grew up on long island and went to every dead show and jgb shows at nausea coliseum. GD Fun Fact: In 1973 the nassau coliseum opened for business. The Grateful Dead were the first band to play the arena. Bill Graham productions with general admission tickets that cost about $6 if my memory serves me well.I also recall one of the spring 73 shows opening with a solemn Hes gone,as pig had passed away while they were on the road. What great memories. Like jerry, i used H for over 30 yrs (snorting only) and i know what jerry went through.Only been "clean" (from H) for a couple of years now but if i had my life to live over,i would do the same thing. I love the dead more than life itself and i am now 58 and sometimes when i watch a show like this i get all teary eyed. My first show was Nassau coliseum spring 1973 and i lost count of how many tours and shows i saw. I never could hold onto a good Day Job!

I was to come out to the Nassau shows with college mates from MN. My finals finished earlier than the others ant they kept pushing back our departure time. I jumped in with some Heads I had not met previously and drove with them to Mass. Somehow scored a single to each of the Springfield shows which was a hard ticket. Then me up with my friends in Nassau for these shows. Pretty awesome run! Truckin', Smokestack, High Time to open....please!

This 3 night run were my first shows outside of the southeast were I'm from. I was warned by friends from New York that New York crowds could be drunk, rowdy, etc. The parking lot scene felt a bit too druggish for me, but inside the Coliseum it was totally cool. When I went down to the floor for the first show, there was a guy asking everyone to pause for 5 seconds before entering the floor just to set up an easy going vibe. People were giving each other space to the point that I even spent one set on the front row with a couple of feet of space behind me for easy dancing. I went in with a throat infection that I figured was going towards strep, decided to dose anyway, and by the end of the show I felt totally fine. Oh, and the music was excellent.

I was lucky enough to be at this one. Easily the best show I’ve personally seen and the crowd was immersed in it. Never saw or felt anything like it at any other show...of course I did have the perfect cocktail that evening....but you knew that this one was special. Still blows me away. Highlights for me were the Scarlet, jam into fire and fire was ridiculous. The jam after looks like rain cool. And the jam from gimme sone lovin into black peter sounds like Pink Floyd. Awesome to find this show here. Thanks for posting!!

Let's keep it real; 1985 was one of the best years ever. The crazy set lists, the invigorating energy and good times the boys brought throughout the year.... 85 was an explosion of serious fizzled fun funk like only Jerry and the Band could provide. 77- great, no doubt. 85 thou? Sorry if you slept on it, but so glad you found it!

I was late for the show. The car I hired took a wrong turn somewhere and didn't get there 'till the 2nd set. While driving, the man of the hour came out with, "He's playing, Truckin'". We knew it. The driver made us insanely late, 'cause we gave him some good ass stuff, that made him miss the sharp right turn, the road sign, to make the right hand turn to Nassau Coll. When we arrived, the band went into, S Glad You Made It.
So Glad You Made it, had a bit of a run there at later shows. So forkin' memorable!

Sure this show has a great set list and some cool highlights. The main problem with the mid-80s shows IMHO: its all about the tempo. Everything always seemed so damned rushed and, hence, mailed in as if the band was in a rush to get to the break. The Peggy-O here, while not the only example, is a prime example. Couldn't imagine why! (sarcasm). Still beats not having any Grateful Dead shows to attend.

Yeah what I have found out watching the live shows throughout the hrs is that people assume because Jerry was deep into his addiction to whatever it was at the time or that his health was bad has an effect on the music. I would say what were supposed to be some of his worst yes health and addiction wise he still cranks out some amazing performance. It wasn't til 92-95 that they really lost some magic, yet I have listened to shows and parts of shows from that era that were great.

Does anyone have the audio from this show? This show took place on the day a good friend of mine was born. I would love to get him a copy of this for his birthday. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Paul Martin Ya, I use clip converter, download for the shows and movies. You can change the format to AVI, MP3, MP4, etc. Then you can put them to disc.

Great second set ... except Bob turns up toooo loud in the middle of the first scarlet solo and because if this make the general coherency of the jams less interactive. you can hear phil and jerry wrestling with Bobs somewhat obnoxious rhythms... lol ... all in a days work.
