      When I first saw that I was a little bit concerned, then I remembered that this was the lock picking lawyer shed and realize that the hasp is probably 10 times stronger than most of our locks that we would put on the shed. LOL

      Actually, it shows the locks aren’t that bad. A lock is a psychological deterrent. It will either be too loud, too much time, or too hard for someone to get thru, and you just deterred 95% of people that would normally steal your low hanging fruit. You’ll never stop 100% of thieves.

    • @monie3681
      @monie3681 2 роки тому +16

      @@CheddarCheeseBandit Lock picking lawyer also has tons of other videos that show how that you can pick a lock quickly, quietly/without much noise, or breaking master locks using common and inexpensive tools, so yeah! It definitely shows that 80% of locks are really low quality.
      But I agree that locks act as psychological deterrent, for most people.

    I mean, without any jokes, this is practically one of the most dangerous vulnerabilities that a lock can show. Raking and impressioning might be a low-skilled attack, but still not every thieves have them. Shimming could be a low skill attack, too, but not every thieves could do it. Ramset could be a brute force attack but still not many folks out there have them. What we should most be aware is the most universal tools, such as sledgehammer and crowbars as shown as this video. Or handsaw or some wire cutter. There are found in most households, and mostly cheap tools. What every locks should meet its minimum securities is this. At least it should have enough structural integrity to endure enough against these kind of attack until the cop comes. What the technical ‘security’, mostly involved with some cores or else, is to keep good people out of bad deeds.

      You can slam a masterlock on the ground like 5 times and it will bust completely open. Me and my friends used to do this with both the regular and combination locks from school. We would snag the locks when people would lose or leave them behind and do this for fun. I used to have a bag of like 100 cores from this 🤣

      Master Lock's 'Pro-Series' solid bodied locks are more to my liking and are closer in physical attributes or features to American Lock, or Abus ... Just order their SFIC or door hardware key models and shy away from their more traditional padlock cylinders, of which have a multitude of security vulnerabilities.

      A serial numbered tamper seal is probably more secure than a laminated Master padlock, based on the facts that it is much more difficult to remove and to replace a serial numbered tamper seal without causing evident damage to the seal, and giving away the secret of covert or surreptitious access or entry.
      Forcible, destructive entry is one thing, but covert/surreptitious entry is an art.

    LPL, keeping Masterlock in business by destroying no. 3's.

  • @dfpguitar
    @dfpguitar 5 років тому +5

    I think that level of of resistance is all you can expect from this style of lock and perfectly adequate for the purpose. The things you use that type of lock on (like a shed you keep spades & rakes in) are typically even weaker than the lock. They are made of lightweight and usually very old timber, possibly even featheredge panels which are literally no stronger than cardboard.
    You can pull apart a garden shed with your bare hands, and completely destroy it if you have simple tools.
    The lock is just a simple deterrent.
    Even in the unrealistic way this hasp was fitted (it should be rotated 90° perpendicular) if the lock was stronger the hasp would have pulled out of the timber.

My suspicion is that brass padlocks could be opened in this manner, but steel padlocks with a locking ball mechanism would be much more resistant to this attack.

    I'd say that the padlock is alright as a visual deterrent. It is alright to stop children from gaining access points and maybe teenagers too but not adults with hammers! The lock would be suitable for a childs toy cupboard and/or a medicine cabinet and hence excellent low security. However, they are wrongly sold as medium security which they are not even close. Masterlock PR with "Apprentice Lock" application! 🤡💨😁

    Back in the 90's I worked at a restaurant and we needed to lock the dumpsters to keep the street people out, otherwise they made a mess of the trash area. We used a slightly larger Master Lock, #1 or maybe #15 and those wouldn't last ONE night. Then we switched to the round body "Pro" locks. Those never failed but I'm guessing nobody knew how to SPP one.
