When I first saw that I was a little bit concerned, then I remembered that this was the lock picking lawyer shed and realize that the hasp is probably 10 times stronger than most of our locks that we would put on the shed. LOL
Actually, it shows the locks aren’t that bad. A lock is a psychological deterrent. It will either be too loud, too much time, or too hard for someone to get thru, and you just deterred 95% of people that would normally steal your low hanging fruit. You’ll never stop 100% of thieves.
@@CheddarCheeseBandit Lock picking lawyer also has tons of other videos that show how that you can pick a lock quickly, quietly/without much noise, or breaking master locks using common and inexpensive tools, so yeah! It definitely shows that 80% of locks are really low quality. But I agree that locks act as psychological deterrent, for most people.
I mean, without any jokes, this is practically one of the most dangerous vulnerabilities that a lock can show. We would snag the locks when people would lose or leave them behind and do this for fun. I used to have a bag of like 100 cores from this 🤣

Master Lock's 'Pro-Series' solid bodied locks are more to my liking and are closer in physical attributes or features to American Lock, or Abus ... Just order their SFIC or door hardware key models and shy away from their more traditional padlock cylinders, of which have a multitude of security vulnerabilities.
great videos, always good to know tolerances of locks just in case you need to open them & the price range needed to get a decent lock. What has me freaked out is how resourceful some people are in dismantling bike locks.
A serial numbered tamper seal is probably more secure than a laminated Master padlock, based on the facts that it is much more difficult to remove and to replace a serial numbered tamper seal without causing evident damage to the seal, and giving away the secret of covert or surreptitious access or entry. Forcible, destructive entry is one thing, but covert/surreptitious entry is an art.
"Keep honest people honest" - what does that even mean? If you're an honest person, you're not going to break into someone else's stuff, lock or no lock.
working out a few frustrations is always a good thing, and a M#3 makes a great Therapist for that. Ha J/k of course, looks like a a very nice day over there on the East coast.
Thanks for the video Mr. LockPickingLawyer! My wife and I were casually shopping for groceries the other day when we thought to ourselves, "Is the commercial Master Lock 10D one inch 25mm Wide Laminated Steel Warded Padlock, truly safe and worth our money? We put so much thought into it, we couldn't sleep at night! Thank God for your great channel and videos, we now know that this lock can stand a beating from the weather and maybe even a few hammerings. Thanks once again, LockPickingLawyer, for making us and the family feel safe again!
hi lockpickinglawyer. my attic padlock was stuck and cant be open even with its key and lubing/wd40 aint helping. by following this video i managed to pry it open. thankfully i have a crowbar and hammer in my car. thanks a lot. very informative video.
Thank you so much for this it really solved my problem trying to get an old padlock off our old dog chain to get it from around this tree in our yard thanks alot
I think that level of of resistance is all you can expect from this style of lock and perfectly adequate for the purpose. The things you use that type of lock on (like a shed you keep spades & rakes in) are typically even weaker than the lock. They are made of lightweight and usually very old timber, possibly even featheredge panels which are literally no stronger than cardboard. You can pull apart a garden shed with your bare hands, and completely destroy it if you have simple tools. The lock is just a simple deterrent. Even in the unrealistic way this hasp was fitted (it should be rotated 90° perpendicular) if the lock was stronger the hasp would have pulled out of the timber.
LPL, with bosnianbill's shooting of Master locks and now your hammering on one...yeah....master of not staying LOCKED! Nicely done, still shocks the new guys at work when a older #3 stops working right and I just whack it with the hammer, pops em 1-2 srikes with ease.
I had one of these that would not open on a garage I used to rent, I really thought I would have problems trying to get it open, I put a cold chisel in the middle and hit with a club hammer, it opened first hit, was absolutely shocked how easy it was to open. this was about 20 years ago, previous to that I had always just assumed these padlocks were really good lol.
One blow if you're experienced. My mother has lost her keys to her gate lots and I have busted her locks with ease with just a small hammer no crowbar needed. Hit in the middle and boom.
Haha, that was nice - thanks for the fun. I wonder if locks like the Burg Wächter Gamma could be opened with a hammer - I hope not as ball bearing should stand much more force.
I’m guessing the hammer isn’t used very often because it’s loud but if you put some cloth or slightly thicker over the crowbar that should muffle it right?
That was a clear demonstration that the Master No. 3 is not resistant to the hammer+crowbar attack. Thanks for doing this video. How many locks could resist this attack? My suspicion is that brass padlocks could be opened in this manner, but steel padlocks with a locking ball mechanism would be much more resistant to this attack.
I'd say that the padlock is alright as a visual deterrent. It is alright to stop children from gaining access points and maybe teenagers too but not adults with hammers! The lock would be suitable for a childs toy cupboard and/or a medicine cabinet and hence excellent low security. However, they are wrongly sold as medium security which they are not even close. Masterlock PR with "Apprentice Lock" application! 🤡💨😁
Back in the 90's I worked at a restaurant and we needed to lock the dumpsters to keep the street people out, otherwise they made a mess of the trash area. We used a slightly larger Master Lock, #1 or maybe #15 and those wouldn't last ONE night. Then we switched to the round body "Pro" locks. Those never failed but I'm guessing nobody knew how to SPP one.
I'm more impressed with the fixings that hold the plate on the wall

I like the idea that LPL has this box of unopened Master Locks just for the purpose of destroying them in interesting ways.
"how many blows does it take to get to the center of a master lock?!"
Would love for that Owl to make an appearance.
Take the two locks together and average them out we get three. Just like the tootsie pop licks to the center.

Maybe they call it Master Lock #3 because that's the max amount of hammer blows it can take before opening, lol.
the world may ne- "and weeee aaaare open."
Nice. Please make 'hit it with a hammer' a regular feature :-)
I have a few more planned.
i like the hammer and brute force videos
When I was 10 years old I "defeated" one of these on a garage door by throwing a big rock at it. Works like a charm.
i always enjoy watching locks being tested. They want the job so they need to actually prove their worth

It's called Master Lock #3 because that's the average number of blows it takes to get it opened with a brute-force attack.

Always entertaining. I need to buy a good crowbar and hammer.

For a Masterlock, that was indeed a tough lock ! :-)
Locks cower in fear when they hear your name
I think a ribbon bow might be better than the Master #3...at least the ribbon might stump the intruder!
LMFAO! Well put!
If I came across a shed secured by a purple ribbon bow, I might just leave out of anxiety. Who knows what’s in there? I definitely don’t need to
In the 80’s & early 90’s, we used our combat boots to open them on the barracks locker. Lock opened with one blow and was reusable.
