It seems EVERYONE on YT is showing how to bust open a lock... but they are all doing it with the lock held in their hand. How about repeating the test with the lock in a hasp on a door or gate or toolbox. The best way to prevent someone from breaking into your stuff is to create something that will increase the time to defeated the locking device. Crooks aren't looking to spend anymore time than the minimum necessary to steal something. All else being equal, criminals look for the lowest hanging fruit. As the value of the property increases so does the type of criminal that will be attracted to it. I weld and have been able to put together some contraptions that actually prevent the direct access to the lock. Not having direct access will most likely increase the time that is needed to defeat the lock. Another aspect of building something myself creates an aspect of unfamiliarity of the locking assembly. If the crook never before saw the item that I created it takes time to figure out how to defeat it. As far as the grinder goes, I also took into account that aspect - Tungsten carbide inserts - The grinder wheel is cutting nicely and sparks are flying, suddenly sparks stops and the wheel edge starts to glaze, and this is with a ceramic wheel. Aluminum oxide wheel basically just turns to dust. I don't want to give, here, the answer to the ones that don't know. The ones that know, know it. Increasing the depth of the material to be cut , also restricts, the option, to larger grinders and additional time. Yes there are power saws that can handle that. but also materials that can gum things up. Just don't be the easiest choice to get rip off, make the crooks go look elsewhere, they usually aren't looking for hard work.

how about the better master locks, I have one that the shackle is a mix of boron and carbide, it's a little longer and has a ball bearing on each side that secures the shackle inplace. its also hex shaped which is supposedly to stop the ability to grind it off or cut it easily. i think you still could but it would take some time to cut through and someone would hear at that point.
I've had to pop my own tool box lock. Used a spud wrench. I'm building a padlock with a square 1095 shackle to lock the smithy. The bolt goes all the way through the shackle and into the lock body. Not easy to break
I see a bunch of wrenches on your table. You don't need all that. All you need is one straight piece of metal that is small enough to fit in the hole, but thicker than the metal on the lock. Stick it in the hole and twist it. Comes off just like that. It's way easier than what you're doing in this vid, especially on the longer lock. The longer lock is actually easier.
Hello. I am here because my father in law passed away last summer and he left behind a bunch of stuff. Among the stuff, a large yellow toolbox kind of thing. It has two Master padlocks but everything is inside so there is no way to get to the shank. How do I... open it? Also, we don't have the keys. :)
Something that you can do is to basically make you lock bolt cup proof that you put in screws and washers Tuscaloosa but over the lock shackle cuz that will reinforce the end bolt cutters open that wide
There are some best Locks that have a bit more of the body covering the lock itself. I've seen some bike chains that use tough cloths covering hardened chains to help defeat grinding tools, though nothing is truly their proof... I'm kinda suprised that they havent built those cloths into the shackles....
From what I've seen video-wise there's enough room to fit the wrenches but not enough clearance to achieve the brutal amount of leverage seen here w/standard locks. However, unless the hasp is likewise made out of tough, case-hardened steel & also has anti-theft dimensions baked-in (which is exceedingly rare), there's still more than enough leverage available when applying the wrenches to simply tear the hasp or any of the (likely several) weak anchor points right out instead & fairly easily too for that matter...
Good question. I'd like to know the answer to that too... And do the multiple notches each get something to hold it back from opening? Or just 1 on each side of the shackle? If I may hypothesize: if the notch were to be the same size cut-out on the shackle as any other lock, why would the "right through" lock do considerably or substantially better? I might think only slightly better when it comes down to holding up to a dual wrench method. But this is just opinion....
In this and other spanners and lock videos I have seen fall short of an in situ test, as a thief would be presented with. Try putting the lock through a hasp on a door - the shorter padlock should be harder because there is little room to insert the spanners. So please do a video as I suggest and then we will see.
Closed shackle locks would stop the spanner method. But grinders and croppers exist too. If you stick a really decent lock on something they’ll probably cut something else off to access anyway.
The Master Lock brand name definitely makes a difference - and not a good one. Master makes some of the worst locks in the business. They're all advertising and hype and very little quality. Go for something like an Abus for better quality.

Something that you can do is to basically make you lock bolt cup proof that you put in screws and washers Tuscaloosa but over the lock shackle cuz that will reinforce the end bolt cutters open that wide
Yes that's what we need is how to break in to our property 😮
There are some best Locks that have a bit more of the body covering the lock itself. I've seen some bike chains that use tough cloths covering hardened chains to help defeat grinding tools, though nothing is truly their proof... I'm kinda suprised that they havent built those cloths into the shackles....
I'm wondering if this would work on a round padlock on a storage unit since you wouldn't have the room to put the wrenches inside
Boy do I feel stupid but it's life. Have a blessed evening. Princess ❤️ Patricia❤❤
I don’t have the hand strength for the wrench method, but a cutting wheel on my grinder did it in a couple of seconds.
Insurance will beat any lock every time.
True.
Take a look at the Squire ss50 try to break it with wrenches 😊
Also trying American padlock A50300 series that one has a shackle protector..
If you want to do it quick and quiet just use the Ryobi 18v bolt cutters no effort needed
yeah ill just carry one of those round
Do the wrench trick with an ABLOY padlock. 10mm shackle or bigger. Wear safety goggles and gloves too.
I use Brink locks, but all locks can be picked if you have lots of practice with different prototypes.
What about a masterlock that has the lock going thru and out bottom? Many notches to pull thru.
That new Ryobi cordless shear?
That would have been interesting to try. We do not have it.
I thought you guys were going to share a solution!
I’ve legit just thrown one at the ground and it’s popped open
😂
Thank you so much. lost our gas case key and we were out of gas for 2 weeks. paper clips didn't help
What if I don't have wrenches?
How about a Brinks Commercial discus padlock to unlock when you lose they keys?
You say even a Masterlock as if they aren't the easiest padlocks in the world to pick
We learned a lot in this video and did not know Master Locks were absolute crap.
In this and other spanners and lock videos I have seen fall short of an in situ test, as a thief would be presented with. Try putting the lock through a hasp on a door - the shorter padlock should be harder because there is little room to insert the spanners. So please do a video as I suggest and then we will see.
can you Do it this way
shutterlock you know in the square padlock
A Ramset is much faster than a grinder. Without the visual sparks or electricity.

Bit noisy though and might be mistaken for gunshot
Thanks Lock picking Lawyer for that tip 😉
Good to know
Closed shackle locks would stop the spanner method. But grinders and croppers exist too. If you stick a really decent lock on something they’ll probably cut something else off to access anyway.
“Even a master lock” I pmsl cos everyone knows masterlocks are the shittest locks about
Was just coming to say this
Yeah, I would like to see them do this some Abloy padlocks. Like Abloy PL 342.
Master lock are what I used to train on fir picking 3 months ago now I can open all master locks garbage
thanks guys iv become a master theif now you have help me beak into over 70 sheds and given me a nice bit of money
😂
The Master Lock brand name definitely makes a difference - and not a good one. Master makes some of the worst locks in the business. They're all advertising and hype and very little quality. Go for something like an Abus for better quality.
You guys broke the lock on grannies garden!🤬
