Emmanuel Esteban - well stayed ... it was pure from start to finish, with lots of moods and emotions.
I have never heard anyone who could make a ukelele ring with the magic of flamenco ... until now ... Taimane, you have duende ... Duende that flows, that storms, that beautifully trickles a gentle rain from the sky ... all so fully dancing through this beautiful song.

I love this video... and I loved watching her abandon herself to the music and just play. She wasn't performing for an audience... it was just her and her Ukulele... It was such a pleasure watching her take flight from this world. Where did you go Taimane? What did you see when you left this world behind and surrendered to the joys of your music? I knew this at one time when I was young. I don't know it anymore because I no longer play the piano... But I know that feeling when surrendering to music and allowing it to whisk you away into some unknown and unseen nether realm. The world is so distant and beyond our physical sight even though our eyes are open. We're here... at least our body is here... but our mind, our soul and spirit are somewhere else.
I loved the way she briefly returned to this world when she glanced up and smiled, only to quickly return to that magical world that can only come from a love of music... This video is beautiful because it captured the moments when she disappeared from this world, but left her body behind to play the music that carried her way, albeit, all too briefly. I know that world where she goes. Thank you young lady, for sharing this beautiful gift with the world...

How is it possible that a four-string ukulele sounds like classical guitar? Incredible!

There are 4 sizes of yukes
This looks to be a baritone uke (what's a Yuke?). I have four baritones and they can sound very guitar-like. Smaller ukes don't have that quality. Baritones can also use the same tuning as a guitar, but many folks also use GCEA tuning. For anyone interested in what tuning Taimane is using, I suspect she is using high D as that 4th string looks thinner than strings 321. If you study her fingertstyle technique when you get a close-up shot, she plays mostly on strings 321 (GBE) and when she strikes string 4 (D) the note is not deeper and chimes more. If you pause the video at 2.41 you can see how wildly the 4th string is vibrating - that definitely suggests high D or (if she is using GCEA) then the traditional high G tuning.
Most baritone players using DGBE seem to use Low D because there is assumed to be a problem finding a high D string. Not so - you can use a 1st (E) guitar string as the starting point for experiments. I use that method on a Pono uke. Some players even go so far as to use only classical strings on their uke as the sound is more mellow. I can't see any wound strings on Taimane's uke, and she does retain the traditional zingy uke sound, so I doubt that she's doing that. But, again, owning a baritone is no guarantee of having a combination of guitar and ukulele sound - everything depends on the qualities I mentioned before. Taimane will be playing a professional, top-of-the-range instrument costing thousands of pounds. In the UK, a Kamaka uke will cost around £2400. There's a very strong chance that Taimane is playing a Hawaiian-made instrument here
Nope, it is Low D tuning. The very last note is F# on the 4rd fret of low D string.
Thanks. Worth knowing. There must be something different about the type of Low D she's using because it looks thinner than the 3rd G string. (clearly visible at 1:49)
If you're right, this is a great example of low D baritone playing .... but, then, all of Taimane's performances are great examples of uke artistry.
Pffffffffff!! Always amazing !! Thats why i start playing Ukulele 3 years ago and thats why i keep playing!!!I really want to archeive that skill, by reconnecting with my inner self and express easely what i feel inside with this instrument, am getting closer everyday !!
Keep on the path. I walk a similar path with my guitar. I found that using 5 gr magic mushrooms and playing my guitar helped me to learn, and the positive effects on my playing and realizations and songwriting continued for weeks after.
