"Nobody likes the Portal."
"I like the Portal."
"Exactly, you're nobody."
Nobody perfect !
Do you honestly believe a pro controller for 200 is a better deal than this? If people can spend 200 on a pro controller, then wtf is wrong the portal.
I swear some people must really hate Sony with a passion, they get shit on for things Nintendo also does, and they are worse.
@@MiguelRodriguez-lp9etbro nobody hates Sony atleast most PPL don't but portal is bad very bad like it's better not to buy it it's very laggy and there are many graphical problems with it it's better to just play with steamdeck, ally, claw, switch or legion
What Sony should of done was make an actual handheld device that can do more than just stream PS5 games. Even the PS Vita does more than the Portal. Even with a home-brew vita you can stream your PS5
DAAAAAAAAAAAAA-
Forgot the portal existed honestly. Vita the last handheld Sony made to me 😂
Well, technically it still is, the PSPortal is just a pad, not a console
@@MetroidFusion5044it’s an expensive TV and controller combo.
@@icecoldpolitics8890with a phone chip
@@bowei6231 The PSvita used the same chip, with small differences, as the Iphone of the same time frame. (Both used Cortex-A9 with SGX543MP gpu, the Apple processor unit was call the Apple A5.) The reality is that they could have done more with the Portal, but didn't.
And it was actually good
I bought the PS Portal and tried every trick UA-camrs suggested to make remote play perform better and it still sucked. So I returned it and bought an OLED SteamDeck and it’s a night and day difference and I feel bad for people thinking remote play is actually good
thank you, actually real human
It really depends on your setup, my remoteplay experience (Chiaki on SteamDeck) is pretty much flawless
Get Chiaki on your steam deck, it actually streams the PS5 way better than the portal ever could due to wifi 6
remote play only good on Xbox, I own both console. I can say playstation remote play always suck.
I did the same thing bro
Remember guys, for $80 more you can get a refurbished Steam Deck
What If I already own a Steam Deck? Checkmate, Atheist.
@@mikehawk669 then you probably shouldn't buy a ps portal
@@Ozzie20101having both I prefer portal for ps5 streaming. I got portal first and loved it so much I bought steam deck. Found it sucks for streaming anything be it ps5 series x or my pc. It’s good for 1/3 my pc games though. I’m actually having to seek out games that will run on it to make purchase seem like wise lol not entirely steam decks fault. I don’t get why so many games that have console releases don’t have controller support.
Where are you getting a steam deck for $80. Steam website is sold out and the cheapest refurbished I could find is $250
@@SaltyChickenDip $80 more = $280
Ps portal buyers are an excellent study on sunk cost fallacy
I'm a collector and i own all consoles from 2600 so i get a pass. Lol
I'm preserving all devices even if it's bad kinda like the dude with virtual boy. Still it's a dumb move from PS.

I don’t even know why Sony keeps updating for it to keep hackers off of it.
Same reason they keep updating vita and ps3 to fix holes hackers find. They really don’t want people using their devices for anything they didn’t intend. Nintendo updates old consoles too for same reason.
If they let it be hacked and modded they prolly sell more of them.
If you’re on a WiFi that requires a verification process, the PS Portal won’t let you use it because it doesn’t have a built in web browser. So if you’re in a hotel you’re not going to be able to use that wifi to play your portal.
@@shawndizzletvactually the switch can open wifi verification windows. It has a hidden browser mainly for this purpose.
@@tomassoejakto I was about to say I never had that issue with my switch. However, it was a game breaker with the Portal. It’s useless without WiFi and several public WiFi’s will require you to log in.
@@tomassoejakto It doesn’t appear half the time. Apparently stopped working properly for most people around update 5.0. A quick Google search will corroborate.
@@shawndizzletvit also has offline play unlike the fucking Portal.
@@shawndizzletvterrible comparison and straight up lie
Nobody says this about the portal because nobody remembered it existed until they saw this.
for only 100$ more you get a steamdeck which can play most of ps5 games (and more) offline, AND you can use it like a psportal to stream games
you could say that the virtual boy painted the way for the later 3ds with it's idea, the portal is a 200$ accessory for a 450$ console that is choppy when not within spitting distance of a decent wifi modem.
I work away from home every couple of weeks. Ive played over 30 hours of ghost of tsushima on my portal via my 5g mobile hotspot with 0 slow down. It's awesome if you've got the means to use it. Definitely a very specific target customer.
Sony fans are the only people to have fake arguments with themselves , then call genuine complaints whining
Same can be said for all fans of gaming consoles. Mad that maybe sony fans have better arguments?
@@spookyo0423
Another day another dolla gotta drink that Sony wata
@@spookyo0423 Well, you clearly don't have better argumenta if you're trying to defend the portal lol. But I get the rest of what you're saying...
@@spookyo0423 the portal is a waste as your phone can do what the portal does and play games natively through apps and emulation. The portal is a rip off. Just get a backbone or a clip that holds your phone to your controller.
@applejackx97 the backbone is 100, the portal has all of the features a 70 dualsense, and a big 8 inch screen and much better battery life, I think it's fairly priced.
So when Nintendo consoles have lag it’s bad but when Sony consoles have lag it’s not a big deal. Yeah that makes sense
No one has said that. Ever
IMO both are bad, handheld pc is better than both, it has access to gamepass and ps now, not to mention switch emulation, I’ve done it all
Can't you just do hotspot in that case?
@@steamaccount2651pcs are too cumbersome
@@steamaccount2651except price point, however you can argue with the savings you get on pc games, it makes way more sense to get pc handheld, lmao they really came after the whole market 🤣😂 at first Nintendo and PlayStation made some kind of sense and I knew Xbox would eventually intergrade into pc.
The virtual boy legitimately has more functionality than the PlayStation portal.
I wonder if Portal sales in the US correlate with average IQ.
@@bigsiege7684This doesn’t make any sense if you’re calling America dumb if the whole point was that the PSP was good.
@@CapHoarder the PSP is a different thing. This is the Playstation Portal, a wannabe switch contenedor accessory for the PS5. The PSP was the Playstation portable, a very successful standalone from a decade ago
the VB was actual garbage I get people are disappointed sony didn't make a true handheld that plays games natively but comeone it's not that bad, no need for glass half empty mentality
@@CapHoarderare we even having the same conversation bro? I have no idea what you're talking about. You are the one that brought up the PSP not him🤦♂️
Because when they announced it, they advertised it as a home only device.
Wait you don’t need to be in the same room???? 💀💀💀💀 Twitter lied
To be fair why would anyone believe that in 2024 the thing sucks bad enough already you think Sony would make it even worse and peeps on Twitter probably to brain rot to understand or bad at explaining
No but pretty sure you have to be on the same wifi network as your ps5 so it's not really portable other then around the house
@@wolf902100 wrong, you don't need to be on the same wifi
I'm halfway across the country and able to access everything I have downloaded on my console, the hotel has great Wi-Fi though
They really blew it with this thing. Make a Vita 2 damnit ha
It needs to be connected to WiFi to use tho so if you don’t have any WiFi it’s just a brick with a PlayStation logo
Hotspot
I@VaughnOfficalMusic i have heard from multiple owners and seen video proof that it will not work with a hot spot, and barely works on outside wifi.
The problem isn't that it's bad... It's that it's a couple hundred dollar accessory to an already 1k+ console. Sony absolutely had the capability of making it a standalone switch competitor but instead they tried to target an audience that already shilled out hundreds of dollars to them.
I get what you’re saying, but where are you that PS5 is over $1000?
@@Grave_Digger606 probably australia the currency exchange from USD to AUD is 1.5x usd
@@IDONOTKNOWANYMORELMFAOO They’re $500 USD, so that’s still only $750, right?
@@Grave_Digger606if they include psvr2 maybe
I get it. 1000 is just fun to say.
Well, if people think that you can't leave the house with the PS portal, it's because that is how Sony advertised it at first. They stated that you needed to be on the same wifi for it to work. Either way, remote play off a different wifi is super laggy, even on my phone and the PS vita with PS4 remote play
I call that innovation ahead of technological capabilities.
It's not really. Lol. Works like a worst steam deck or on par with Cloud gaming for Xbox.
@@frstudio3640 cuz they wanted to do 3d games, but the technology wasn't there to make it a good experience for gamers.
Why would i buy this shit while i have remote play on my phone for free????? And a bluetooth controller whats the point of this shit😭🙏
For people who have a small ass screen on their phone or who want to USE the phone not having it die on the go or who don’t wanna take their remote outside the home.
It doesn’t cost much more than a normal extra controller and comes with a larger screen vs a 1000$ phone
I hadn't even heard of the Playstation portal until seeing this video.
To be fair. The virtual boy was farted out to fill in for the N64 while it was taking time to develope. It was an idea that had been kicked around and didn't have a huge amount of development time before it was released and was primarily the design of the same fellow who made the original gameboy. Is that Playstation handheld a placeholder until something much better comes out or will it be retroactively given some use like those wands that were eventually made somewhat useful with Playstation VR?
Hmm...interesting theory 🤔
virtual boy walked so oculus and PSVR could run
@@JRPGLifehey I pre ordered my portal and I don’t understand why I disconnect every 5min and on the same Wi-Fi just in another room
At least the virtual boy can play games by itself
Its just not worth the price considering its essentially a screen with streaming capabilities and a built in controller
It really is because of the scalpers. I tried to buy one for months. I finally got one on Amazon. It lags so bad that playing warzone makes things difficult because of the lag and crappy resolution based on internet connection.
Bro quit trying to sell us on a stupid cloud device that’s way overpriced. We want to play our games natively and not be tied to WiFi. Whats not to understand? And that’s coming from a Sony fanboy.

One day it can be moded
But why? What's the point when is underpowered compared with similarly priced handhelds. Modding it will give give you a miyoo mini with a bigger screen for the price of an Odin.
Actually it has been moded to run PPSSPP but I think the ones who did it reported how they did it to Playstation and got it patched.......
Hey now Virtual boy was WAYYYY ahead of its time
I agree. it was the first vr set in the world. made it the 90's with 60's theory's. even now it's still growing
PS Portal Community: “You fool…. I HAVE 70 ALTERNATIVE ACCOUNTS!”
U can’t walk away from the PlayStation. It lags the audio lags, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY PORTAL AND MY VITA.
The Portal has a few pretty specific use cases where it's actually useful, such as someone else using the main TV, or if you're dealing with kids and can't leave a specific room.
Welcome to 2012 Nintendo
I just use mine at work lmao
Yea. Those might be the only situations I can think of. Then, I look at the price of the portal and wonder why you wouldn't just buy another monitor or TV and hook your PS5 to it if the main TV is being used
Dude likes the portal and isn't afraid to stand his ground on it. Honestly, I respect it.
I feel like something people don't talk about is imagine if you get your games physically and leave with your portal, you will be stuck with the one game in the disc tray or no game at all.
this is my first time hearing people genuinely confuse the functionality of the playstation portal's remote play to the Wii U's tablet wireless functionality.
Ive never heard of this thing well, imma go back to playing cyberpunk on my phone connected to my xbox
Didn’t know about the portal until now
Same
The ps portal, so good it doesn't work if you don't already have a ps5.
At my store, the portal was instantly sold out on release, about half of them came back for returns in about 1 week
To be fair, the people who kept it loved it, I think a lot of people probably mistook it for the psp
I love my portal. Now that I'm a dad now, my little girl want let me hang in my gaming room so my portal has come in clutch.
I’m exactly the same this console is perfect for gamer parents
this is why you buy her a pink nintendo switch and animal crossing and turn her into a gamer
Yeah most of us portal users are usually parents. The screen is huge It’s cheap and super convenient especially for PlayStation exclusives.
its still stupid
Agree
It doesn’t have an internal internet browser! 99% of public WI-FI has a verification website that toy need to digitally sign before gaining access. You CANNOT do that with the portal. Making it completely useless in most situations. Yeah If you’re on vacation or at someone else’s house this works. But almost any public place I go, this is completely useless.
If you have to argue it’s popular, it probably isn’t popular.
The Wii U is peak what are you on about bro
That better be a joke
WiiU was AMAZING. Best Nintendo Console because it has the actual best console build inside of it (vWii)
Haha yeah you forgot that the Wii u is also better than the switch cause they had virtual console and free online. Unlike the switch where they make you pay a subscription fee and dripfeed you with retro titles.
You can play some wii and gamecube games on the gamepad : ) i was playing Resident evil 4 on it the other day (modded ofc)
I run a netgear nighthawk with a mesh wifi system so my portal works flawlessly on each floor of my house corner to corner. I didnt know it could lag until i played it using my phones hotspot at work.
Damn I got a headache just from looking at the virtual boy 😂😂😂
But you see, I can play Jack Bros on my Virtual Boy but not my PS5/Portal. I gotta give the win to the VB.
To clarify: you dont need to be in the same room as your ps5 to use the portal, bt it requires a stable internet connection everywhere to play games on cloud without lag
"You know the ps portal sold out almost immediately in the US right?" with only 10-15 units per store i cant possibly imagine it not being sold out....
Bro definitely works for Sony
Lol I don't even know if I wish that were true 🤔
I have the Xbox nacon pro and it's amazing having two kids under 3 , means I barely have time to play , but the nacon makes it so easy anytime to play for a few minutes here and there throughout the day
"... and not just an accesory."
"Powerglove."
why people thinks all streaming is the future? i hate that, without internet nothing works, in my psp i had anime and mp3 music and too many games prepared to internetapocalypse
It’s nice when my family’s using the tv or to hang out with the dogs that aren’t allowed in certain rooms.
The Vita, and a PS backbone with your phone are better value
I bought a portal so i can be in same room as my newborn when he sleeps
My favorite part, hands down, was when he pulled out the Virtual Boy, and the look on his alternate self's face...had me laughing so d**n hard, and I just had to watch it again. Lol.
I'd call that thing a failed experiment that was trying something that's impossible (at that time).
"Well, *I* like the Portal!"
"How brave of you to admit something so humiliating in public!"
It sold out exactly because of scalpers.
The ps portal is basically if they focused on the remote play aspect of the Vita
With a screen this big I wouldn't dare to leave my house with it
Without the virtual boy we most likely would have gotten VR a lot later
Every time you say PlayStation portal I'm thinking of the original Play Station Portal
It is a waste of money. Just remoteplay on your phone or tablet.
Virtual Boy was actually kinda bad ass tbh
Virtual Boy was a step toward something we didn't have the real tech for at the time. The Portal is... A WiiU controller with more range...
I work in a second hand electronic store. The sheer amount of these things that people sell to us is hilarious. The vast majority of them bought it because they thought it was a new PSP.
Portal is far and away the most comfortable handheld I’ve ever had
FUCK THE PORTAL ... SONY was just money hungry cause WHYYY ! Our phones and other devices can already do this
It's a $200 accessory that makes your PS5 easier to play around the house and out of it. I love it
The fact that it's the same price as the earbuds is mind boggling
Somebody at my school brought a PS portal on the last day of school and it worked perfectly. The kid next to him brought an entire PS4 and a monitor that may or may not have been me.
I still think the new PSP should be a standalone because at that point you have to buy a PS five and a PSP almost $800. You could buy a steamdeck for half the price and do pretty much anything that the Ps5 five can do.
The day it gets hacked and can be gamed on is the day it’s worth it
Got a fellow employee that has ps portal and uses it on his lunch at walmart
i was going to buy one but realized for that same amount i can get a modded switch light that quite literally does the exact same thing, plus more, and actually plays its own games, best purchase i’ve ever made
Seriously why buy the portal when you can get for $50 more the steam deck that can do exactly what it does and still much more?
Had absolutely no idea this was a thing
turn ur ps5 into a wii u emulation box with the playstation portal
People that like the portal are everywhere, huh? Interesting
I like my portal on the rare occasions it gets a stable connection, when it does and I can't access my TV it's brilliant.
Sounds like you have an internet issue
bro idk why the moment you said the biggest waste of money in gaming history i immediately thought of the virtual boy. So funny wasn’t expecting you to pull it out
Maaan you can't bust out the virtual boy lmao
They were sold out because people thought they were like the PSP. I talked someone out of his purchase because he thought it was %100 portable.
Somehow it's less laggy outside the house than in but it's still great
Me not even knowing that the PS Portal even exists
I was playing my portal going down the highway running off of my cell data. Was playing Fallout with no lag.. The Portal is incredible
I didn’t even know it existed until right now 💀💀💀
You dont need to be in the same room to use the portal. Hell, i used it at an airport
Exactly! 😀
I haven't seen a single portal in the wild. Not in a store, not on display, not in anyone's hands. Nothing.
Main difference between the portal and virtua boy was the time. 90s, we had no idea something like that would fail. However, the history and market research was out for the portal and still went a head with it.
I honestly do believe that the portal only sold so well because scalpers got acquainted with the console market, and obviously they didn’t get burned enough by having mountains of PS5 they still haven’t sold
Lag makes this device a no go
But should it get hacked ill change my mind for sure
Guys if you ever visit Japan, you'll find big support for the Portal. Like, an aisle in the game and electronics stores dedicated just to accessories for it.
Its a goofy machine but, man I wish we had better internet out here.
“some people actually liked the wii u” all 5 of us feel seen
bro wtf is a PlayStation Portal, are you serious? I don't buy PlayStation anymore but how tf did I not even hear of this
