    Thanks for sharing this cool vid. I live in the mid north US, close to Canada. I recently inherited this kind of cacti from a dear friend of mine that recently passed, it actually was a cacti that my young son and I gave to her around 40 years back, at that time my young son and I just happen to be shopping at a K-Mart store, my young son seen the one foot high plant and begged me to buy it for him so he could give to our plant loving neighbor. Well, 40 years later the 5-foot-tall plant is now in front of my dining room windows, its just has a few straggly stalks with a few baby ones trying to grow. I'm thinking it needs to be re-potted, just not sure how to go about that.

      I'm sorry to hear about your friend's passing. Thank you for sharing this. It's cool that you have this to remember her and the time your son got you to buy it. :) Having it in the pot is most likely what is keeping it at 5 feet. If you put it in a lrger pot it will most probably get bigger as the roots have more room. If it's a plastic pot I usually lay it on it's side and roll the pot back and forth putting slight pressure on it while supporting the top of the plant. The pot ususally slides off after that. I hope that works for you.

    Wow! Are you giving it fertilizer? How did it manage to have SO many blooms? Mine finally started blooming this summer after I fed it some JADAM liquid fertilizer. But still, not as many as yours!!!

    • @bentsprockettech
      @bentsprockettech  8 днів тому +1

      Actually, we don't do anything except make sure that anything with competing roots is not growing too close. The root system of this thing is gigantic and it's planted in loose soil. If you look at the base, the circumference of the original is quite large, larger than the parts that have regrown into what you see with the flowers.

      Yes we did. They were delicious too! We have to stay on it every time though since the birds love these as well. If they get there first, they don't leave us any. LOL

    • @bentsprockettech
      @bentsprockettech  2 роки тому

      We do eat the fruit, that is, when we can get ahead of the birds. LOL It's pretty sweet, with a texture that's almost like a cross between pears and watermelon if you can imagine it.

    Does it produce alot of fruit?

    • @bentsprockettech
      @bentsprockettech  Місяць тому

      It does. We have a lot of bees in the area and when they are done doing their work, just about every flower on there bears fruit. It's amazing!

    • @bentsprockettech
      @bentsprockettech  3 місяці тому

      They start blooming when it darkens after sundown so that by dawn they are completely open. As the sun comes up they start closing again and by noon they are closed up again.

    • @bentsprockettech
      @bentsprockettech  3 місяці тому

      @@tamaracollin2681 I did not. There are very few moths in this area. We are near a canal and we tend to get more dragon flies than anything else.

    If most or all of those beautiful flowers turn into fruit, each of which contains hundreds of seeds, in some climates these cacti can turn into invasive pests because so many can germinate from all those seeds.

    • @bentsprockettech
      @bentsprockettech  Рік тому

      We collect all of the fruit since it is very tasty. At this time these are confined to just two spots in our yard. :)
