As much as I praise this MUA for their skills, I can’t help but think that all their looks make the model look more Western. I’ve noticed that these looks are usually done with models with paler skintones that the average Filipino girl, there’s nothing wrong with it but it just reinforces the mindset that being whiter is prettier than your natural skintone. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be paler but sometimes people do it out of sheer insecurity and I think that it’s just toxic. Don’t get me wrong, this makeup artist is so talented and the methods and techniques are indeed praise-worthy, but as a Filipino who has struggled in accepting myself in the past, these looks feel a bit off. We as Southeast Asian people shouldn’t want to looks Western or American, we should accept what we truly look like. At the end of the day we’re all beautiful.
