    Addressing a few comments:
    - We KNOW we could have just spent the 20 minutes at each spot to get the minimum charge. HOWEVER, this was our FIRST EV road trip and I was a bit paranoid!!! So I charged to 260 out of the 310 mile max almost every time. We will try to be more loose next time.
    - The map estimation does take account for elevation but other factors play a huge role. As I showed in one of the examples it took 101 miles to get to Trinidad. We started with 263mi and got there with 111mi so it was off by 52miles (AC, music, etc all takes additional power)
    - And finally YES all the audio is from the S22 Ultra. I would not go thru the trouble to record separate audio on a road trip haha. It crushed it.

Yeah definitely switch to percentage, the car wasn’t off by 52 miles, it accounts for all of that. You’d get a clearer picture by tracking percentage. We recently drove from FL to NYC and fully relied on the tesla navigation and it never had a hiccup.

Hey Sara, loved the video! Just a heads up about miles remaining, it’s based on the EPA’s consumption estimate for the Model Y so it’s always a static calculation. It doesn’t take into account real world driving like temperature changes, elevation changes, and increased speed. I’d recommend using percent remaining as it’s more realistic to what the car predicts it’s range will be. This is why the car says you’ll arrive with X amount of charge remaining and not miles remaining. If you open the energy graph in the car during a trip, this app takes into account all driving factors like using climate control, stereo, etc and will give an accurate and real time estimation to what percent you will arrive at your destination with! Because it’s based on the actual energy consumption you are using in real time unlike miles displayed which is based off of the EPA’s consumption estimate and it is thus static.

You are awesome. We need more EVs in the world. Less PM2.x pollution and more energy independence from authoritarian nations. You did a great job of showing people that this alternate form of propulsion can be very convenient even on very long trips. I would have loved to see the math on amount of money you saved on this trip by using EV compared to what the fuel costs would have been with a gas car.

I wouldn't sweat that particular set of comments. The ones castigating you for almost fully charging instead of just doing the minimum recommended. Better to do what you did...and have a cushion against circumstances biting you rather unpleasantly in the backside.

When on road trips in an ICE car, in my family it's always been traditional to stop every 2 or so hours for a leg stretch, snack and some fresh air. These stops typically take 30 minutes total anyway, after filling up with petrol, buying snacks, letting people have a smoke break. The idea that doing a break every 2 hours is weird is just so fundamentally wrong to me, that I can imagine owning a Tesla would be no different!
Also just an extra note, its recommended by the AA to stop once every 2 to 3 hours anyway for safety.

For non-tesla people it almost sounds like a cop-out when you say "it was nicer having designated stops to break up the trip" but it's so true.... I also love how the car gives you the time remaining to the next stop as default rather than the whole trip, makes it much more manageable mentally. Seeing 2/3hr to go rather than 12hr really makes it less mentally tiring (autopilot helps a ton too of course)

I go on lots of road trips and take breaks often anyway, so I have no issues with "frequent" stops. The issue is more when you take stops because the car says you have to rather than because you want to. Driving with young kids learning how to control their tiny bladders can be quit the experience. They never need to pee when you decide to stop lol.
I think all of this gets better as we have public charging (not just superchargers) expand. For now, depending on the crew you take with you and how you like to drive, it can absolutely be a hinderance.

That’s true but who wants to drive nonstop…. Most people have to stop for bathroom breaks and food breaks anyway with a Tesla you just planned that along with your stops so you don’t waste that much time. I will gladly spend an extra two hours to get somewhere and I have to pay gas versus getting there two hours quicker than having to pay a boatload of gas money

Haha the video quality and sound was totally fine. I enjoyed it. I am still surprised to see people with range anxiety in a Tesla no less^^ I watched so many TeslaBjorn Videos that I learned to stop using the guessometer and use % instead of miles. If you are a little scared about the range, just check the energy monitor from time to time to see your consumption and with how much % you will arrive. As long as the navigation doesn't tell you to drive slower to reach your destination you are totally fine!
Next time, have more confidence =) Greetings from Germany

Depends on what car you are coming from. My wife's car has a range north of 600 miles. Cutting that in half or less, when that has been your daily for years and is what you are used to would probably be concerning for a lot of people.
Having taken many road trips coast to coast there are giant stretches of land where you might not have cell signal and you might not see civilization for dozens upon dozens of miles. Thaty can be nerve wracking enough trusting that your car won't have an issue let alone worrying about mileage.
Not at all saying people need to be paranoid. I am just saying I understand a heightened sense of concern with something you aren't super used to.

Much better than pulling into a gas station running in to get some nasty food and then fuel up to be back on your way.

Should be noted while it's true of most Tesla SC if possible keep a space in between you and the next car, this isn't true for the urban chargers. The urban chargers max out around 72 kw and are single space so it doesn't matter if you park next to another car, there are less of these though so in general, a good rule is if you can help it, don't park next to another Tesla while charging, chargers are labeled A and B so you know if they are on the same i.e. spot 10a and 10b would be on the same.

Did slightly more than this distance on Friday in a Model 3 Standard Range Plus, only Tesla Superchargers for half the journey, the rest of it local Polish DC Rapid Chargers.
Don't use the range remaining estimate, use the Percentage calculator.
Plan your long break (lunch/dinner) at a point where the distance to your final destination is within the range of your vehicle, what way you can do the last leg without stopping and use utilise that time you have when eating to get close to 100%
Basically you want to organise it so you can do other things as much as possible while the car is plugged in.

Just did a 1800 mile road trip. Your spending too much time at the super charge. Use the 20% rule when charging. Your battery should be at 20% left when you arrive at your next stop. See nav. Most stops we had were 10 to 30 minutes.

Tell us your story on where and how you bought your car, being from Texas makes it so difficult to buy them. By the way, I’m a over talkative old guy too. You guys are young, be respectful to everyone. You will be his age sooner than you think. By the way I bet your friend sitting next to you says the same thing about you, very talkative. 😂

V helpful. I’ve done a western US road trip a number of times with a 400mi tank gas car, and experienced gas anxiety a few times, so good to see the electric counterpart!

currently you stop every 6 hours of driving for 30 minutes with a tesla. that's not bad. little snack and bathroom break and you are charged. lol no big deal.

    • @miked7344
      @miked7344 2 роки тому +1

@@Chris_Hruska Thats the issue, I don't want to be stopped for 30 or more minutes. This snack and bathroom reasoning is weak. If I'm driving long distances, I'm already snacking and bathroom breaks only take a few minutes. Sitting and having to wait like that is just a waste of time.

    • @AyaWetts
      @AyaWetts 2 роки тому

@@Chris_Hruska that sounds like a best case, when the battery is brand new as well. People I've talked to have to charge a lot more often than 6 hours, and for longer charge time.

@@miked7344 like I said, it's not a big deal. just know that it'll be wildly better in the future. so no big deal. stopping for 30 min for dinner or whatever is easy and makes it ok.

@@AyaWetts i assume people are buying low range batteries and trying to drive far on them. soon enough all cars will have 600mile+ range and will charge in less than 15 minutes. so it'll charge faster than you need . people take breaks every 3 hours anyways. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

for her about 3 and a half hours although you could cut almost 1 and a half hours just because she over filled at all stops and she could have skipped some chargers along the way entirely. And you would want to stop for 2 hours on a 13 hour road trip anyways, food, bathroom, rest

The Tesla trip planner already takes elevation changes into account. The only things it can't really account for is wind, rain, temperature, and speed. Rain and headwinds have been the biggest factors for me having less battery than expected at the next supercharger stop.

      I own a Tesla. Great Q!
Answer is, you save SOME $ for sure on a long trip vs gas but...
The HUGE savings is when you charge at HOME!!
So...if you are going back and forth across the country non-stop and don't have a home, an EV is not perfect.

Yes, the car charges your card on file so you don’t have to do anything but plug in. It’s significantly cheaper than gas though, and some free (but slower and non-Tesla) chargers are available too.
