The impact of this scene increases when you consider it from this view: it’s made apparent that the “auto pilot” mode makes sandler’s character an emotionally empty shell that is described as a “auto zombie” by his ex partner. He has spent years - decades like this. His children probably saw him not react at all when his father died and perceive him as an emotionless asshole who only cared about work and how cheap he was. Then suddenly, after years, not knowing anything else, his son sees his father completely break down for this first time in his life and actually sees his father show emotion. It just breaks my heart.

This scene really exemplifies how we take our family for granted.
We're busy on a day to day schedule and we never stop to take fifteen minutes out of our schedule to chat, share a joke, laugh, smile.
Sadly, throughout most of our life, we're uptight and serious, and devoted to our career above all things, that by the time we take the time to relax and enjoy the company of a family member, that person could already be deceased.

I dont particularly care for my parents.
I wish my parents loved me like that.
Yeah they fed me and took care of my basic needs. But I would rather have been a foster kid or something rather than have lived under their roof.
You don't know pain until you deal with the emotional abuse and neglect when all you want to to is be loved.
Here's a story. My step dad and mom took me and my half sister to go get musical instruments. My sister wanted to learn the guitar and I was always obsessed with drumming.
So they got my sister a nice electric guitar and Amp.
I got an electric drum set with headphones. So basically they could hear my sisters playing but not my own.
One day my step dad comes home and I'm playing the drums, at some point he throws his TV remote at me and yells at me to stop making so much fucking noise so he can watch family guy.
Really killed my interest in drumming. About a month later, they pawned the drums to get cigarettes. (They did get it back but it was ruined, they lost pieces to it)

      Matthew 11:15 KJV
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Are you saved? Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell?
The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell.
      1 Timothy 3:16 KJV
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
      John 1:1,14 KJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us,
      1 John 3:8 KJV
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
      Hebrews 2:14-16 KJV
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; [15] And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. [16] For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
      Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
      John 1:10 KJV
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.
      John 20:28-29 KJV
And Thomas answered and said unto him, MY LORD AND MY GOD. [29] Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
      Acts 16:30-31 KJV
...what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
      Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
      1 John 1:8-10 KJV
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

How I spent so many weekends, summers, Thanksgivings and Christmases with her. How when she was in town, I was right alongside her and my mother. I was so close to her, even though I was 1 out of dozens of grandkids. I remember all the stories she would tell and all the platos of chili verde she would make. It was my favorite and I always felt special when she asked what I wanted for dinner. Despite all that; I keep thinking was there a moment where I said I’m sorry grandma I can’t, or I’m busy or not now. My grandma actually took me to see this movie and she told me how true it was. Not sure if you'll see this but I had to reach out, I've been in the same place myself.
      Hear me out.
I promise where you're at right now is temporary and by forcing yourself to do even a little good for yourself every day (even making your bed perfectly every morning) will eventually add up to a new self-perception which will manifest into more disciplined habits that will then in-turn snowball into serious lifestyle changes.
Now even though this snowball brings more positivity and love into your days, occasionally after a streak of positive behaviour life still pisses in your cereal sending you back to square one making it feel like you've made no progress at all.
This is where most people quit and where the real challenge starts.
People don't realize that being able to stay positive and focused on becoming better whilst in a rough position is a skill and therefore they don't treat it like one.
They don't practice it, this is often why most people give up.
But you're not going to give up.
You'll just start making your bed again to get back on the same train as you originally did and when you inevitably reach that streak of positive behaviour you crashed and burned last time and are tempted to destroy yourself you won't because you'll remember just how amazing it feels to be in control of your habits and how much it hurts to lose that control.
After losing, you're not a loser, you only lost so that you can better understand how to fight the demon with his dick out intending on ruining your perfectly good bowl of breakfast the next time he tries flirting with your new life.
There is no light at the end of the tunnel, stop being bummed out that you're not getting any closer to it.
The light you're looking for beams through good things you do every day and balancing that light against darkness is really what the end of the tunnel feels like regardless.
This whole fight continues and continues over years until you've grown into a completely new person that you can learn to love again.
And all you had to do was make your bed a few days in a row.
You'll get there, give yourself time bro.
      Love ya.

This is the saddest movie scene I've ever watched. I still remember balling my eyes out as a cynical teenager the first time I saw it.

When you’re younger this movie is a comedy. When you get older it makes sense and you don’t laugh as much.

I never realized how good this movie was till I was older.
This was a childhood movie and I always enjoyed it for being a goofy comedy with Adam Sandler
Then I grow up and this shit is actually making me cry

Amazing movie super funny , but the serious theme of life being so short , when Adam Sandler cries i can’t help get sad he reminds me of my dad

Man, this is some heavy stuff. When I first saw this movie, I never knew my dad so it didn't really hit as hard, but now that not only have I reconnected with Pop, but we have a strong, healthy relationship, this is DEVASTATING.

Movie is a rollercoaster of emotions, watched it first when i was a kid but after becoming an adult, the weight of the world on me and remembering family members that have left this Earth through the years makes this scene hit like a train.

Obviously, we all have that moment in our lives we wish we could do things different, tell our past selves off for being so horrible, and be grateful for the people around us.

This movie came of too funny to hit you with that fact that time slips away too fast. I called my dad right after I first saw this.

Look at the date on the Stone. Damn, I know these last couple years have been insane, but this is one premonition I pray does not happen...
But on the bright side, Henry Winkler aged much better than he was depicted here!

Not to mention, Winkler was actually born in 1945, not 1944, but close enough. But yes, he has aged a lot better than here.

This movie came out a month after I turned 11, and I was a massive Adam Sandler fan. I'd been introduced to Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, and Billy Madison, so I was stoked to be able to see a new Sandler movie in theaters.
I was so confused because of how serious the tonal shift was and did not at all expect that an Adam Sandler movie could make me so sad.
That moment of my life stuck with me even til now because I guess I subconsciously realized that Comedy and Tragedy really do go hand in hand.

I know this scene was sad. But it's just so surreal that his father died in 2021 and we are now in 2021. Damn how time flies fast. Also, clearly there was no pandemic there with the office scene hehe. How I wish that was the 2021 we lived in.

Hollywood should make more movies like this, cherish your parents for they don't last forever
