I discovered a trick to better enable fitting the lens back on to the light housing unit. On both sides of the lens cover there are grooves to slide the housing unit into. I used a small dab of silicone grease, just a drop at the entrance. This enables the housing unit to slide into the lens much easier.

The orientation of the lens when snapping it back into place definitely matters. My daughter has a 14 Corolla that we got used and someone put the lens on backward on one side. I nearly had to break it to get it out of there. I discovered the bulb can be changed without removing the lens from the trunk but it's a pain.
