Yeah. I think it’s great to see both sides of a lesson! Great video. Quick question tho. Isn’t that butt of the club look like it’s pointing passed the ball when you are hip high? Or is it just the view.. your other videos you say it should be pointing at the toe line or between the ball.

🤭, this is me. Long swing, across the line at the top, under the line at impact. It’s funny how different feels work for different people. I have more of a left shoulder under my head feel to keep the width in my trail arm. And more of a “down and around” feel for my hands on downswing. Good content, like seeing real people with different swings.

OMG, that early bent right arm in takeaway is totally me! Finally a lesson with a golfer that has a swing closer to mine. I now realize that getting too shallow already at takeaway in my standard bad shot (which is push hook all over. Going in to out ever since I picked up a club, I normally hit 4 fine draws and then every 5th shot is a push if my hips are clearing too fast, or more often a push hook if they're too slow) must start the chain reaction in me struggling to get back on plane in time. Looking back at a couple of recorded swings I even do it on my good hits. Funny enough I never do it with my wedges which now also starts clicking with as a important element on why my short game is way more consistent than the long. I'll try it on the range asap.

Great lesson Eric - club just slightly behind the hands is the golden feeling. For me, just slightly outside on the way back, for width to keep those big muscles turning the club back, and then just slightly inside on the way down coming into the ball. You can get greedy when you are searching for power and do more inside, but having that goto 'smooth' just inside the hands at 2nd parallel position, for that stock iron shot is the perfect practice swing feeling. It's incredible how much this one position fixes everything else.

  • @jorgehernandez6409

I think it might be a great idea to look at Tony Finau’s swing. His swing might help cover what you’re trying to convey.
By the way I like the hands and the feet in-line reference. It works, I got it from your piece with Mike Malaska. I’ve always made sure that the hands/butt of the club definitely don’t pass the heels and the club feels weightless before I start the down swing. 👍🏼 Keep it up. I would dare to say that your videos are one of the top 3 or 5 videos in this platform, straight to the point and easy to understand, no unnecessary verbiage for beginners and a refresher for the not so new.

Just hit the range today and decided on my own to make a shorter back swing, and even on the driver I was getting way more accurate, as well as consistent good ball strikes. One thing I noticed to, was that because it felt "shorter", it made me start using my legs even more than I've ever had in the past. So I decided to look up if there's any videos on a shorter back swing, and surprise surprise, your video popped up ! 😂

I forget which teacher said this but it sure makes sense..said he’s shortened many swings throughout his teaching days and rarely lengthened any at all. Once the left arm reaches its comfortable limit anything further probably makes it harder to get any consistency on the way down. Several players nowadays with short backswings. Rahm, Finau, and as I recall a guy named Dan Pohl led the tour in driving distance and he had one too.

I experimented with this last week. Instead of making a full swing, I used a three quarter swing for all shots and compensated by using the next lower lofted club. I could feel that my swing path was more consistent and not "wobbly". I instantly hit crisper and more accurate shots and all shots went further than they usually do. I scored an 80 almost effortlessly. I even almost made a hole in one on a 187 yard par 3 (ball stopped less than a foot from hole). It was too good to be true, so I'll try it again next week. Maybe it was a fluke and I had a lucky day. And my back and shoulders didn't ache at all which was unusual.
