I'm retired and grow organic veggies on a 2ha plot all on solar including pumping 8000 litres an hour. Best move I ever made. Now looking at expanding to meat rabbits. I'm confident of the future. Sure, it cost but my future is secure. Great talk. Congratulations David & Ted.
Please consider sharing (maybe YT) how you started and daily operations, equipment, time and cost. I've had egg laying hens and rabbits. Had to get rid of it because of being overwhelmed with labour. Just couldn't manage on my own.
Thank you for making us so aware of what has been going on at Eskom. You will be sadly missed. My condolences to your family. You are one of South African Stars.
Imagine being so stupid and greedy, that you believe that your corruption wont have any knock on effects. All that money they are stealing is being devalued on a daily basis because an economy without power can't grow and investors pull out. Where are you going to refuel your fancy new car that you bought with stolen money when theres no power for the pumps? New cars are all electronics, where are you going to service it when the service department has no power. If you get a heart attack from all that whiskey and fried chicken you've been having, where are you going to get help when hospitals have no power. If you fly to Russia you'll be dead by the time you get there. There comes a tipping point where money all the money in the world can't help you, and all the cash you've stolen is useless.
Great interview, an enlightening one about the real Eskom challenges (in just under an hour). The thing I like the most about Ted Blom is his gumption, I wish I had a mentor like that growing up/ currently. You can tell that this is an intelligent manly man talking sense.
@@ockertbrits6907 At this point, I really don't mind our differences as long as we do what we are appointed to do in office or any work space for that matter. The economy is far more important.
Great content gentleman. Good to hear there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am big on people doing for self, I too believe self reliance is the future....
Have to become bitter about blatant corruption. I've had this for over 15 years in the corporate finance sector. “There's none so blind as those who will not see.”
What was said. ESKOM and SA lost is competence base of very skilled people…..including myself and many more even brighter people. Early 90’s saw ESKOM being drained of its competence, smartest people I’ve ever worked with, just surrounded by skilled engineers, now all over the world. Point I’m making, neither Ted, myself or other Eskomites can or could create such a great machine, it was the combined efforts of the team.
Great interview and abundantly clear cadre employment replacing experienced tried and trusted personnel is the problem. Putting inexperienced and thieving cadres in key service positions , delivers the problem we have today .
Ted knows what he's talking about from experience. He's not everybody cup of tea but he does have a view of the energy problem at Escom. Interesting that he thinks Matshelo Koko was an engineering star but ignores the award of a R3bn Escom contract to his daughter.
We need Eskom to buy all surplus power even if it is only for a fraction of the going cost price. Then they can resell it for their current price and then make money from that. This will serve as an incentive for people to put up more renewable power
The time to put on a parachute is before you jump out of the plane. If you wait until you are about to hit the ground it is too late. You can cry as much as you want but you are going to hit the ground. Same here. Eskom engineers and managers told the government in 1998 to build generators or there would be problems. That was the time to act. 20 years ago might have been ok. Now is too late. The people marching on Lithuli house should have done so 20 years ago. They have left it too late.
Critics say that more small reactors pose a higher risk. More transports of nuclear fuel and waste will be needed. SMRs require new designs with new technology, the safety of which has to be proved. Until 2020, no truly modular SMRs had been built.
The future belongs to Thorium molten salt reactors. Scalable and with 'walk-away' safety, this is where we should be going. Like pebble bed, power units will be available in container sizes, delivered to site on the back of a truck. China seems to be ahead of the game here - time for us to catch up!
His data on Solar costs are way out of date. Look at the TCO costs from South Australia (ua-cam.com/video/vInH3MqiaC8/v-deo.html). Even with storage, solar is significantly cheaper than coal, since about 5-6 years ago. Safer battery techs are starting to come on-line now, like iron-based batteries or even pumped storage. He does come across as a climate denier. much like the the people in the ANC that still insist that they are doing a good job for us.
Ted Blom spoken the truth. Thank you.
Excellent interesting discussion gents, well done, and thank you so much.
Excellent interview
Well that was one of the most enlightening conversations I have ever heard about energy. Thanks, Ted and David 🙏🙏🙏
I’m really glad you found it enlightening. I did too!

Great interview and discussion. Should be mandatory listening for all politicians in SA.

Thanks Mr Blom.Good advise.I hope people in the leadership are listening and getting educated to run the country efficiently.❤
This is impressive and perfectly simplified to make sense.
Such informed individuals should be running these entities.
He has the wrong skin colour, in case you haven't noticed. Racism is well and alive in SA.

Ted for Eskom CEO!
Loved this interview
Bloody brilliant.
Interesting & Informative indeed.
Very interesting podcast - thanks, David and Ted
Thank you gentlemen. Extremely interesting. ☀️🌴. The chronicle continues
Very insightful and optimistic conversation. Shows what the correct expertise brings to the table. I hope that all our politicians listen to this.

Load shedding history. Loved the historical context. Brilliant!
What a great Ted Talk
While cable buyers are not identified and stopped..load shedding will never stop
Can’t wait thanks
We all have to individually stand up to this crazy situation. We have to stand in our integrity.
Excellent info - thank you

RIP Ted! You passed too early and SA has lost a great energy specialist and a patriot!
If the public knew and had unrefutable proof of the corrupted persons names. Then we should sue those individuals involved individually.
Wow Energy in SA education 101! Ted Bloom 💣💯. ANC government 🦧😊

decentralisation is the future of energy!!!
Why are men with this experience and knowledge not in charge of monitoring and evaluating maintenance at Eskom

Yes nuclear is the answer

Build your new power station in any of our surrounding nation's. Less laws and regulations. Blessings
Interesting about Koko. Very plausible reaction most people would have to Zuma But Ramaphosa🤨
