  • Vader discusses the time Hulk Hogan double crossed him in WCW during a match. Full shoot ➤ TitleMatchNetwo...
Produced, licensed & distributed by Title Match Media LLC. Enjoy the full Vader (1998) shoot interview on our streaming subscription service, TitleMatchNetwo....
Title Match Media LLC digitally remastered the original raw footage, including color correction and advanced audio editing specifically for this UA-cam release.
Vader came into WCW and absolutely dominated the early half of the 1990s. By the time Hulk Hogan came to town in 1994 all bets were all off. Find out how Hogan would routinely agree to stipulations and finishes only to change his mind at the last minute. Or how about when Hulk Hogan kicked out of Vader's finishing move mid match after agreeing not to? Vader gives us a little bit of insight to wrestling politics that went down in WCW and WWF.
This Vader shoot interview was conducted in 1998.
    RIP Vader (Leon White)

There is not a back Hogan isn’t willing to stab or a lie he won’t tell rather than the truth. Hogan was snd still is about Hogan, no the business, the boys or the company he works for. I wish Vader had shot on Hogan if for no other reason than to humble him and get pay back for everyone Hogan had screwed or lied too.

Well Turner wanted Hogan, and they gave him everything just to sign him.
Before he turned heel for the NWO, Hogan asked for 20k a month for turning heel. Because Hogan felt he would lose merchandise sells if he turned heel, then he made more money as a heel and still kept the 20k a month.

@Damien Jones Actually because Hogan had lost quite a bit of the luster and mainstream adoration he had back at his peak, interest in tuning in to see Hogan do his shtick and usual promos were pretty mild tbh, lol. Hogan's debut and first 2 years at WcW only saw a minor spike in interest. THEN WcW got to the top via a combination of The Outsiders and Hogan forming the NWO and the emergence of Crow Sting. Even Hogan himself, at Bash At The Beach, in a semi-shoot said (where he turned heel as the 3rd NWO man) " ..The reception I got when I came out here...You fans can stick it brother " Lol, he was about 25% in character, and 75% just being Hogan. Hogan had some Hulkamaniacs showing up to shows... but that following, that attendance and those ratings were meager compared to when he WAS the top draw.

Hogan at the time had no plans of returning to Wrestling as well as he wanted to do Movies and Tv shows, he started Thunder in paradise tv show at the time and was content on doing that. It wasn't until Flair and a few other guys kept asking him to come to WCW which he at 1st kept saying No to until he was offered a contract so massive he couldn't say No to. I'm 43 years old, I been a Hulkamaniac since Wrestlemania 2 in 1986, I'm still a fan of Hulk Hogan to this day, despite my fandom, I said this when this match originally took place, and I'm saying this now, Vader should have won that FIRST match at Superbrawl, and not by a fluke either, Vader should have destroyed him, it would have been HUGE business! Hulk Hogan trying to get revenge, trying to take down the mighty monster BIG VAN VADER! But I'm sure that wouldn't have worked for him BROTHER!

Vader discusses this incident in his book. Hogan was supposed to take the power bomb and just lay there for a long time until the officials took him out in a stretcher. The idea was to sell Vader as this super-strong villain. Hogan’s explanation for no-selling is that he was calling an audible based on the live crowd’s reaction.

@@timothycrosby4251 I was never a Hogan fan, I always thought he was lazy as hell and would almost never go out of his way to try to step up and deliver a good show. Only in Japan did he ever put a lot of effort into his matches. Even as a kid, I could see this and I thought that shtick was lame. His theatrics were fine, but Jesus give us more than a few poses, hulking up, a big boot and a leg drop for God's sake. Instead it was got your money suckers, that is all you are getting in the main event. I bought the first 2 Wrestlemania's, but after that I would only watch it at someone else's expense, and it was the under-card I was interested in.
I could tolerate him in WWF, because I really didn't care about WWF as anything but just a second choice at that point, but the day he stepped into WCW, it was like a kick in the gut, because I knew even then what it meant as soon as he jobbed out Flair. It meant that WCW, the legacy of the NWA and Jim Crockett Promotions which was my wrestling brand of choice from the time I was 9 years old, was unquestionably over.
As rough as the early 90's was with all the nonsense creeping in on TBS, there was still enough to where it was still Sting, the Steiners, Flair, Steamboat, Rude, Vader and all the other amazing talents who would go out make up for all the crap by killing it in the ring. It still felt like the NWA, which I came to love. Once Hogan came, it was just Hulk Hogan's rock n wrestling redux and I hated it. When the NWO came around it was kind of cool for about a year, but it was really ECW that peaked my interest through this period. I never trusted the WWF in the Attitude era enough to be financially invested, because I knew Vince McMahon was only doing it because he had no other choice.

Hogan at that point was riding on his name. He didn't have the body anymore that's for sure. He got off the juice, nobody liked him down south (the fans) and he got booed walking in the door. As far as the Vader match. Leon should have understood that Hogan did that with everybody, never a real comeback story. Always keeps the belt and go on vacation with an " injury " that's been his m.o. forever. Sting gets hurt, loses the belt, comes back and wins it again. Hogan refused to do this. He would let it get passed on to the next guy also and then wrestle him. His comeback story has never involved him dropping the belt. Vader is a good guy, if he says he was gonna give it back, he was . See stings shoot on vader, he always gave back.

He was a complete backstabber and a liar if it benefitted and protected his spot . The ones who say they had no problem working with Hogan were the ones who he didn’t see as a threat to his spot. Eg I think Kamala said he had no problem working with him, probably for this reason. I’ve never heard stories about him being overly aggressive, but just backstabbing.

Vader was actually booked to win the WWF Championship at Summerslam '96, with HBK winning the belt back at Survivor Series. But HBK politics prevented that from happening. Thus going backwards and screwing Vader out of his mega push. Vader was then booked to win the IC title in '97, but his incident in Kuwait killed his last chance at any push he was considered for. The way he worked with Sting in 1992-93 was a classic example of a strong way to book a big man. They would have Sting lose a few but always get that important win that kept him in it.
The Hogan thing was backwards from jump because Hulk was hesitant about working with Leon. Putting him in a title match against Ed Leslie at Starcadde was an awful idea. From a booking standpoint, Beefcake/Butcher hadn't even really worked any big matches in WCW. He was just Hogan's corner man and there was no reason to believe he was going to go over. They overestimated how much people would care about the betrayal. If anything they should have had his double cross cost him the belt to Vader at Starcadde. Do their match at Super Brawl with them eventually going back to a long run with Vader that would see Hulk finally beat him in the summer.

Vader is not being clueless. At this time he was booked as unbeatable and his loss to Flair was considered a major upset. It would have made sense that Vader beats Hogan I the first match to set up a huge rematch down the road where Hogan gets a clean victory. Vader losing the first match killed the feud

I got the 1k like. Been waiting for this day on ANY video for a LONG time. Great interview you unearthed, not surprised about the content though unfortunately. RIP Leon White.

The way that live crowds treat Hogan now is Karma.
