@@mojennith6427 From HHH's perspective, a boost to Booker's career was a threat to his own. He had to wait a long time to be on top, and Austin refused to put him over. Unfortunately, I think Booker was in the crossfire between Bischoff and Russo. I don't think it was anything personal against Booker but I can understand his frustrations.
That really sums up WCW back then. I was a loyal WCW guy at the time so I was getting the PPV anyway. Imagine how bad things had to be to think having Booker T win his first world title & his fans that didn't buy the PPV don't get to see it because he wasn't advertised to wrestle for the belt was a good idea. How the hell most of the people who knew including Booker didn't ask why wouldn't we promote the match instead of somehow throwing it in unadvertised is nuts. I'm surprised Booker is so pissed at Hogan when Booker vs Hogan means way more $$ down the road than Booker wins unadvertised at the Bash at the Beach. He would've made more money than he's ever had in his life. What a mess they were & I watched that stuff religiously. Was actually happy that night but I was under the impression it was spur of the moment. Hearing Book knew days in advance is just more proof of what a shitshow that place was at the time
He didn't lose to a black guy though. What happened was in storyline, Russo had Jarrett lay down in the ring for hogan to pin him immediately. Russo threw the belt in the ring and told Hogan to take it. So Hogan pins Jarrett, but then decides to "walk out" of WCW and in doing so surrenders the belt. Russo then says Jarrett is the world champion, then sets up an impromptu match between Jarrett and Booker T, which Booker T won.
Agreed! I also still don't understand why Kevin Nash had to beat Goldberg. Just made no sense at that time! The egos in WCW were out of control! Also, Vince Russo should have never been allowed in there!
The crowd went nuts when Nash beat Goldberg and he didn't beat him clean. The Wolfpack was extremely popular. What was stupid was the Fingerpoke of Doom.
This is one of the reasons I’ve always had so much respect for you Booker T. You have such a grounded approach and because of that you come off very fair in your recollection of things. You don’t unnecessarily bury anybody and you don’t overly praise people who you don’t feel deserve it, it’s hard to find that kind of sincerity when it comes to these “shoot” style interviews.

And Nash is still pissed off that when the Nwo returned to the wwf in 2003 Hogan stoled the show against the Rock and short time later was given the world title again while Hall Nash where quickly pushed to the back of the line.
You gotta remember that early in Hogan's career he faced Harley Race & Nick Bockwinkle & they never came off the title for him. A similar thing happened in Japan where he was the 1st NJPW Heavyweight Champion but it's not recognized because they want Inoki to be the man. I'm playing Devil's Advocate here but I think Hulk Hogan learned very early on in his career that once he got power that the only way to play this game was to make sure that you kept getting titles and to stay on top and that the belt was not a work. He saw everyone else keeping themselves in the title picture and that the closer they were to the title picture the more money they made. When he saw he had the chance to do that wherever he went he made sure that he never let that power go. The old school world taught him that. So he exercised creative control. Now creative control may not have been a contractual term before Hulk Hogan came around, because before Hulk Hogan everyone else owned the company or was the booker of the company themselves so they were always able to just simply put the title on themselves. Times were a lot different in the 1970s and before. But then again I'm not telling you anything you don't already know ;)
1. There have been 3 versions of the IWGP championship that have existed, 4 if you want to include the IWGP 3rd belt. 2. Hulk Hogan was OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED as the first ever IWGP Heavyweight Champion. That version of the title doesn’t exist anymore. 3. When selected to be the first IWGP champion Antonio Inoki (The founder of NJPW) was in power of NJPW. 4. Stop creating lies.
WCW was trying to compete in the ratings and Jeff Jarret and Booker T were not going to that. But imagine if things had of gone to plan and Booker T got to beat Hogan at Halloween Havoc and taken his career to the next level...
true they had get jarrett out of main event scene nobody bought him as top guy. booker needed be patient let hogan get the title off that clown jarrett
Eric contradicted himself on his review this week, in one sentence he says the plan was for hulk to "beat" Jarrett the way he did and leave, and there wasnt supposed to be another title match later in the night, there just would of been no champion, which everytime ive heard him or anyone else tell the story, the second title match was always part of the deal, russo going so hard is where it went off the rails.. but then in this same episode, he goes on to say that hulk would of come back at Havoc to win the unification match vs Book... Soooo he was supposed to get the "interim" title? Or he wasn't? wtf.. first time I ever heard Eric get washy on it
Vince Russo pretty much helped Booker T win the World Title. Not just by him booking it but due to Russo's shoot promo, that definitely was the deciding factor in Hogan leaving and allowing Booker T to really win without Hogan's creative control lingering over and Bischoff's influence
The people most right about EB/Hulk/WCW's downfall are Bret and Flair and they've been called bitter and everything but EB has fooled us all to lead us believe he is not the biggest carny in wrestling history who played with his toy box, then when Hulk came Hulk just took over while EB watched.
Booker probably had the best WWE run of any WCW guy. But I still think it should have been more. I don't think he had Rock level charisma, but he was good enough to be the face of the company. He could definitely hang with Rock and Austin.
He's a hypocrite. Number one he wasn't the first black champion, Ron Simmons was and two, funny how he doesn't say anything about Tripple H and we all know why. Just him playing the victim when in reality he couldn't lace Hogans boots.
I always like hulk as a kid but when I was getting older I always wondered why he always won the ppv matches. Watching these stories about how it was behind the scenes. Makes you feel different how feel about the person
But if my question is....if the contracts stipulated creative control for some of the wrestlers, even if Bischoff did not want to go through with it, he had to oblige because the contract said they had creative control...Im confused.
Booker should be happy he made as much money as he did because of Hogan. I understand how he feels though. Booker T was one of my favorites during his hay day.

I honestly wish booker and his brother had begun and ended completely in wwe. They were marketable, talented, and based on stories were very good employees to have representing the company they worked for. Can't ask for more than that. Booker was a talented wrestler, could talk in the mic, and his charisma was 1000x any star in today's business. I also felt like they held him back in WCW...he could of had some great rivalries, and I would of loved to have seen a legit rivalry with scotty steiner since their bumps in the ring went back to doom vs the steiners.
I always thought the plan was for Booker T to still win but Hogan come back months later and fued with him claiming that is title is the real world title.
Booker deserved all his success . When he started having solo matches you could see it. He has a cool moveset, did everything clean and sold his opponents offense. WWE while made some mistakes (HHH) they still put him in a position to look like a main event talent. One of my all time favorites
People forget That Scott Steiner was supposed to face Triple H at WM 19 but once Vince realized Scott lied about not being injured after seeing Rumble match with Triple H Vince knew he had improvised and Book volunteered and they choose him to replace Scott that’s why book always implies they pad him extra to lose that night because he was already covering for Scott Steiner

@@Violent_WolfenDidn't know you were there during that time? What company did you work for?
Russo was a POS, but Bischoff was out of his mind for going along with Hogan’s little power play. Booker absolutely deserved to win that title on that night. It’s crazy that Bischoff was so subservient to Hogan even after the ratings began to freefall to the point of no return.
@sqworldwide44 Didn't have to you just had to watch Russo's shit with the Brawl 4 All and use pattern recognition. Obviously, you're a mark who was either too young, not born yet or just sees what you want.
Your very comment could apply to yourself.
@Violent_Wolfen I'm 38yrs old so I was a early teen during these years. So for one thing Vince McMahon approved brawl for all and the wrestlers signed up for it.
Wonder how upset he really is about losing to Triple H at Wrestlemania….what did that do for Triple H’s career…..it sure pushed Booker T down the card for a long time after
Nobody was taking the title from HHH in that Era so it really wouldn't matter
@@bms2010 it would have done nothing to Triple H’s career had he lost but would have been MAJOR for Booker T to win
@mojennith6427 like I said b4 nerd nobody was taking the title away from hhh no matter how good it would of made their career
@@mojennith6427 we all know Trips wasn't losing THAT match.
@@mojennith6427 From HHH's perspective, a boost to Booker's career was a threat to his own. He had to wait a long time to be on top, and Austin refused to put him over. He wasn't going to risk getting lost in the shuffle again by allowing the main event to have other credible guys. The reason why his selfishness gets him so much more grief than others is because the product was stagnating while he kept himself on top.
Booker made my childhood great. put some respect on his name 💯
Eric Bishoff always did whatever Hogan wanted so This info is not surprising
💯
RACISM STILL EXISTS IN WRESTLING,AND SPORTS.
I still love how Hogan tried to sue for Vince Russo a worked shoot.
I think he won too lol
It wasn't a worked shoot, it was REAL!
It wasn't a worked shoot at all, and honest ppl know it. It was a full shoot. Sharmell said that Russo's words weren't in the script. Nobody in the back had any idea why Russo went off script. The reality is that he went into business for himself. Russo tried to play the "i was speaking in character" excuse, but nobody calls somebody a "piece of [expletive]" in a promo unless they're speaking from the heart.
No he didn't win The Judge threw it out. Why would Sharmell know about any of that. If it were real his mic would have been cut. Hogan would've came out & beat his ass. So there's a word for people that think that was real it's mark
Being cool with how a situation went down only to find out more bs. Booker got every right to be mad. He really just want this situation to stay in the past.
All of the good memories I have of watching wcw in the years 2000 and 2001 involved Booker T in some form . Booker was the MVP of wcw for many years In the late 90s aswell
Booker T, Scott Stiner, DDP, and Lance Storm were my guys in the dying days of WCW.
@@FBA_God_Emperor_Doom stiner was unhinged and awesome one of the few guys who can say something genuinely hilarious but be terrifying at the same time DDP was wcws ironman his journey is unlike anyone else's and lance probably did his best work during his wcw run he had an actual character and was pushed as a threat and changing the names of the three belts was genius while the dying days of wcw was bad in a lot of places the shows still have good talent and the odd great creative decision in them I was lucky as a kid I got to watch both shows and when I go back now and watch it always tends to be that I watch WWF for the storylines and angles and wcw for the matches
The only two things I give VR credit for are making Booker and Steiner champions. Booker 100% deserved it and probably long before that. He put the work in for a decade at that point. I am glad he got his deserved recognition. He is beloved by everyone. It sucks to see the pain in his eyes when he talks about this.
An accomplice to the crime....u got 45 seconds 😂 bookem
But says nothing about HHH making him look stupid at wrestlemania 19
Of course not because he's a hypocrite, he knows who's still writing his check. Still dancing for the man.
Doing it Bischoff's and Hogan's way, Hogan would still champ to this very day
The hell with Hogan !!! And bischoff is hogan sycophant
The hell with the greatest of all time? Lol no. Booker is a hypocrite who couldn't lace Hogan's boots.
We loved u booker.. you was one of our fav.. dont be sad dude.. u hav been one of the best... i used to watch your gights in wcw in the late 90s... and yrust me, the part of the eorld m from, u wont even knoe how famous u hv been sir ...
Hearing Book knew days in advance is just more proof of what a shitshow that place was at the time
Spot On!!
I met Booker last weekend. He’s the nicest, fun loving, humble person.
🙏🙏
Booker T should be more pissed at WWE for that feud between him and Triple H
If it was up to Hogan, no Black man would ever touch that belt. Or anyone else!
What episode of episode of darkside of the ring he's talking about when he says they took him out of context??
Losing to a black guy "doesn't work for me brother" I'm sick of Hogan
He didn't lose to a black guy though. What happened was in storyline, Russo had Jarrett lay down in the ring for hogan to pin him immediately. Russo threw the belt in the ring and told Hogan to take it. So Hogan pins Jarrett, but then decides to "walk out" of WCW and in doing so surrenders the belt. Russo then says Jarrett is the world champion, then sets up an impromptu match between Jarrett and Booker T, which Booker T won.
don't play the race card dude, that's just cheap of you.
Aww poor you playing the race card and playing the victim, imagine that.
@@jd9119 he didn't want to drop it to booker so that is why the came up with that whole bash at the beach angle
@@joshuaberlin9419 his is a racist and he was on tape
I barely watched WCW, and only really watched it for Eddie, Pac, Rey, La Parka, and Booker T.
Righteous rage!!
Eric bishoff killed WCW due to the outrageous contracts he gave to Nash hall and hogan and how he was all over hogan's nuts . He was just happy to be one of the guys in nwo . Eric killed WCW
Rewatching “who killed WCW” booker really was the one getting screwed out of all of this
Booker is 100 percent right. And has every right to be upset about these revelations coming out.
Facts especially regarding hulk
😂😂😂…sure he is
Yeah really souled a lot of merchandise with Booker T’s name on it. I guess Booker you’re going to say Hulk played his creative control card to give Hall and Nash the tag titles. Harlem Heat real money makers there.
@@johnkudasik3133well, Hulk played his creative control card at Starcade 1997 vs Sting. Heck, even Kevin Nash said on various programs that Hulk did this a lot. Jim Cornette has mentioned this. So……….
@@jodychocolatethunderwillia8957 Did he do the job? And Hogan knew to well Sting could not carry a company and this was the third time sting carried the title only to lose it a short term later but unlike you Johnny come lately guess what they had a rematch the next night on Nitro and guess what the same story line except no loser Bret Hart to ruin it. And Nash is still pissed off that when the Nwo returned to the wwf in 2003 Hogan stoled the show against the Rock and short time later was given the world title again while Hall Nash where quickly pushed to the back of the line.
Which episode of the dark side of the ring are they talking about
It was fun to watch.
Ur still da goat 🐐 can you dig it!
But then again I'm not telling you anything you don't already know ;)
on the money, when hogan came up it was cut throat
Hunter, HBK, Bret, Orton, Jarrett, Bockwinkel, Flair all did what Hogan did and Hunter was arguably much worse.
Was that a Sean O'Haire reference?
I can see that too, but wouldn't you want to do better for someone than what was done to you?
Bret Hart always said Hogan was a 🐍 in the grass.
Damn if Booker is still this mad about it, imagine how furious he must have been at that time. He made some great points here and I agree with him.
Booker hands is crazy
Hogan coming out after, staring him down, then lifting his hand. Then Monday cutting a Promo of Hogan vs Booker T...Does that save Wcw? 😳🤷🏻
Just hearing Booker T say the name “Hulk Hogan” is hilarious 😆 iykyk
5:28 Booker being champ was the right decision
David Penzer phoned Booker and told him to bring a suit, as he was going over for the title that night. So he’d need the suit for Nitro.
I think ppl fall back on "taken out of context" too much. It seems to only be when it's convenient..
But that's the thing...Hogan wound have gotten to the ppv and changed the finish smh
Or he wasn't? wtf.. first time I ever heard Eric get washy on it
Russo helped booker t alot and was the one that rooted for him to win the belt in the first place
This was his Mania 19 all along
Vince Russo pretty much helped Booker T win the World Title. Not just by him booking it but due to Russo's shoot promo, that definitely was the deciding factor in Hogan leaving and allowing Booker T to really win without Hogan's creative control lingering over and Bischoff's influence
Which is why he had to do it.
LOVE the transparency Book!!!... And you can tell he was holding back on some of his feelings. My man. ✊🏾 ✊🏾✊🏾
He's a hypocrite. Number one he wasn't the first black champion, Ron Simmons was and two, funny how he doesn't say anything about Tripple H and we all know why. Just him playing the victim when in reality he couldn't lace Hogans boots.
Loved the Jackie childs reference.
I can literally hear booker saying tell me you just didn't say that to bischoff 😂
The way he was talking @ the beginning, it was giving me "King Bookah" vibes. Lol
Say what you want about russo but he really did good by putting the belt on booker t
Speaking as a Hulk Hogan fan, I'm glad Booker T won the title that night. Hogan winning the belt then wouldn't have made a difference.
it had nothing do with booker hogan didnt want to put over that clown jarrett and i dont blame him
Hogan didn't want to put over anyone. Not cleanly.
@Youtuube304s Goldberg, Sting, Luger, Piper, Warrior, Lesnar, Angle, Rock, etc, etc, etc. Sadly, for you, he wasn't a jobber like your favorite.

PREACH!! 🙏
Wrestling is like if you got all your old friends together and argued about all the disagreements you ever had from 20 years ago.
"HULK HOGAN! WE COMIN' FOR YOU NGA!!!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
2002, I was 9 years old and a huge Rock fan, Booker T's entrance music was amazing, he was the perfect enemy.
Booker should be happy he made as much money as he did because of Hogan. I understand how he feels though. Booker T was one of my favorites during his hay day.
Excuse my ignorance but what does Dark Side of the ring stand for? Just curious why they said they don’t support.
Preach Booker, i always think of so many careers that could have been made during that 99/00 period. Glad we eventually Booker T and Steiner Steiner as World Champions
7:26 Can anyone clarify what he means by “don’t like what they represent…” ??
Booker was a total workhorse and a fan favorite no matter which company he works for.
Book that’s not gonna work for me brother
Precaite Booker for adding 'credulity' to my vocabulary
👏👏👏
I honestly wish booker and his brother had begun and ended completely in wwe. They were marketable, talented, and based on stories were very good employees to have representing the company they worked for. Can't ask for more than that. Booker was a talented wrestler, could talk in the mic, and his charisma was 1000x any star in today's business. I also felt like they held him back in WCW...he could of had some great rivalries, and I would of loved to have seen a legit rivalry with scotty steiner since their bumps in the ring went back to doom vs the steiners.
when it comes crashing down and it hurts inside
I always thought the plan was for Booker T to still win but Hogan come back months later and fued with him claiming that is title is the real world title.
Hogan had creative control in his contract. So if he is in the match, the had to give Hogan what he wanted or WCW would have got sued.
We see after all these years Book speaking how he really feel without backlash to worry about
Booker deserved all his success . When he started having solo matches you could see it. He has a cool moveset, did everything clean and sold his opponents offense. WWE while made some mistakes (HHH) they still put him in a position to look like a main event talent. One of my all time favorites
I thought Booker said that he never he knew was winning/wrestling for the title until that shoot of Russo at Bash At The Beach.
One of the good things Russo did was pushing Booker T to be the champion, such a great talent
Booker T is in the GOAT conversation without a doubt!! He is to me 🐐
People forget That Scott Steiner was supposed to face Triple H at WM 19 but once Vince realized Scott lied about not being injured after seeing Rumble match with Triple H Vince knew he had improvised and Book volunteered and they choose him to replace Scott that’s why book always implies they pad him extra to lose that night because he was already covering for Scott Steiner
That night didn't work for the Hulkster brother 😂
Ho kogan. We coming for you
