I am literally holding in my TWO hands my 12-inch spinmaster batman and my head is going back and forth from the figure to your custom, scratching my head and thinking "how the heck???" Excellent improvement and work.
You are very kind. I do all I can, and since I am not as young as I used to be, I choose to be careful in how I present myself and my works. At one time, when I could see better and my hands were less my enemy, I may have had what you might call an ego. One gets older to be that way very long. lol! I choose now to be more inclusive, as many out there want to be able to do what I do. Many can, but they themselves don't think so. lol! We all are better at things than we may realize. I share now, and try to help others make better stuff. But thanks. I am humbled and appreciative of your kind words.
It seems a Hot Toys LITERALLY, OMG, amazing job sir...Would be perfect a video with the process😞 can you make a 3 part video explaining the process? Greetings from Spain Maestro!
I'd like to get another one and maybe try that. It was too many steps to go back and just tell. I guess if I had one out of the box, then I could say I did this and that, and go back and forth...but it needs a new, blank one to make sense of that I think. A big part of it all is that neck! And a new cape.
Hey, I have only in recent days discovered a great secret, that Spinmaster must laser scan the actors they do figures of, because the face likenesses are WAY better than the cheap finish the toys usually have would let on. In other words, there is a diamond underneath the rocks of coal you see in Walmart in boxes on the pegs...there are workable collectibles there!
@@LesWalker2023 you know, you are on the point, I collect 12 inch figures like the spin master ones, bc the quality, the price and there are a little collectable. You are wise man
Hello, beautiful work on the figure ! I have the old Batman 1989 from Hot Toys & I can barely move him altough he looks nice. Is the Batman Returns figure more moveable perhaps ? Mars Toys are releasing The Riddler & Toyz Turbo are releasing Two-Face from Batman Forever. For third party figures they are not bad looking at all. Might be worth a pick up to have alongside Hot Toys`s Keaton & Nicholson from Batman 1989 !
I'm customizing one as well ut instead of going movie accurate, I'm trying to make it look like the 89 Batman comic version, which was basically comic batman with the 89 outfit. I loved the movie but Keaton was then and is still to small to be batman and I always thought his head looked too big and wide. The cartoon version solved all that and this one will look perfect with 1/6 Batmobile I got coming sometime next year.
Sadly not at present. Had a Facebook for a while, but had no time for it. I might do some stills in a vid soon. I do have some nice ones of this figure. In progress and finished. Thanks for the kind words!
I've put some thought into maybe a third video using some stills I have that I took during, and describing what I did here and there. Might make it a little more understandable. Biggest obstacle is the putty-work, and the cape. The rest is on the figure. Paint. Only added stuff is the ear tips, side and back of head, cowl tip extensions, two more belt canisters, and the cape. But, a little more explanation might help someone do this on their own. Just a thought.
Watch my Pt 3 video for putty information. I actually show it (Magic Sculpt) in the end picture graphic and if you click the "show more" anytime, under the grey intro under the video, there is a link to a vendor to purchase some! Thanks for asking and best of luck! It's easy to use!
Not sure. It takes more time than I have at present, so he isn't cheap. Less than Hot Toys of course, but still, might be too much for some for a reworked $12 toy.
i like it man, good job!!if you want to,do it on another figure in this wave, the flash that wears batman returns suit, repaint it,put a cape and change the head, and some mods.1992 batman keaton yoo
Over the arms at the elbows I used sort of oval shaped pieces and only glued the top half down. Since it follows a sort of curve of the arm, it keeps the material pressed against the bottom half, which is the toy joint, that looks like a joint, so this helps. You can still even swivel the arm! Works great. Now, the crotch area, needs a more complex piece. I trimmed the top to match the lines of the bottom edge of the belt. As for the bottom. kinda tricky, you have to sort of fit this part, you do a pull through between the legs and up the back of the butt. On the sides, you leave enough to run two strips down his leg to the knee, following the somewhat raised ridge already molded there. That keeps the sides pulled down and won't let them ride up. You then cut a nice oval that you glue down on each leg. Test fit it with a piece of paper to be sure. It takes some time and a lot of patience. You don't want to "miss" as that would let excess glue show and ruin the effect. Hope that makes sense and works!
I mention it in one of the other videos I am sure, but it's a Japanese paint product, Mr Hobby, Mr Super Smooth Clear MATT spray. It's not in a Walmart or the like. Hobby specialty stores mostly, or order online. Blue can. Lots of Japanese writing on it. It's some kind of clear resin and it doesn't take much. Mist it on in layers. You can seriously handle it after it sets. VERY good coat and coverage. Good stuff! Even available in a UV protection version! Makes any Styrene or PVC or similar material toy BETTER! Seriously! Just used it on my (repainted) new, 6 inch Indiana Jones figure. Wow. Nuff said.
Bless you. It is a LOT of fun! To work up a good Batman it takes the right frame of mind (ie., this is a decent base for a good figure!) and a reasonable battle plan and some good materials. I went to a store known here in the East as Joann's fabrics. In the pleather section, there are choices. Shop and find what works for this scale. Some have fine patterns, but look like scale leather. Try stores like that. Touch the fabric and buy in person. Also, to resculpt, invest in a 5lb kit of two part epoxy sculpt. It comes grey and in resin and hardener. Once mixed, it sets in about 30 min to an hour before you can't do much more with it. Get some and experiment. GREAT stuff! It is sandable and can be demelled after it sets. That, and cloth, and time. Oh, and invest in Mr Hobby Super Clear Matt and gloss finishing sprays. Does wonders with surfaces before and after repainting! Best of luck! Feel free to ask me anything! No question is silly! 😉👍
@@LesWalker2023 appreciate the tips! I’ve used air dry clay in the past but I’ll try that this go around. We have Joann here in the Midwest too. What paint did you use for the body to give it less of a glossy look? Also if you’d ever take commission I’d consider paying you to make one for me haha 😂
@@TragedyAtBest Hard for me to do commission work at present. No time. But I am honored and very much appreciate that. Air dried clay....man! OK. You can even paint it with water based acrylics like Vallejo Model Color brand...and spray it with Japanese brands of Mr Hobby Clear coats flat or glossy or whatever, like I used on my Batman...I used flat...Find some of all this and take your time and experiment! You can't go wrong! Sets up rock hard! Trust me, you will go far with it.") I should still be here when more questions come in. Go, take your time, rock this stuff and enjoy! You'll see!
@@TragedyAtBest I have a system I have come up with from painting for years now, but let's stick to Batman, specifically, Keaton. He's an older man now, so you don't have to be too neat, as his skin is not perfect. Skin never is. Use some base colors (all Vallejo Model Color brand w/numbers): 70.828 Wood Grain (a miracle dark brown color!), 70.941 Burnt Umber (another dark brown, but less washy), 70.880 Khaki Grey for a good base tan color, 70.928 light flesh (for THAT color base), and 70.957 Flat Red for any red tints in the skintones. More for lips etc. More burnt umber for 5 O'clock shadow etc., and experiment. Try mixes in a styrofoam plate (my mixing place) and for his eyes, which are NOT blue but more a green, use the khaki grey, mixed with a little 70.968 Flat Green and use the light flesh (never white! Not even for whites of eyes!) to lighten that for inner, brighter iris colors. (SMALL brushes of course!) and a dot of black for a very small pupil. Once it's all dried and sprayed and set, dot some 70.510 Gloss Varnish right on the irises to make the eyes shiny!
5lb kit of Magic Sculpt two part epoxy putty. EASY to use!!!! Even can use water to thin it down....do layers etc. Dremels easy also! Find some on Ebay for cheap.
